Jack's Bar & Steakhouse
Food was delicious. We had the Man Salad, hanger steak, curry cauliflower, french fries and bone in filet. Everything was cooked perfectly. Wait staff was friendly and professional.
Had the most tender filet I've ever tasted and my wife's sea bass was phenomenal. French onion soup to start was the best I had ever had as well.
Only "complaint" if you could even call it that, was that we sat outside on a Saturday night and the noise on the street noise was a bit much.
But food and service were perfect, I just might recommend sitting inside if you're going on a weekend night.
Food was great but service was very slow and they were not crowded.
Loved the attention and the service. I recommend this restaurant for sure!

My wife and I went to Jack's with another couple and loved every aspect of the meal.
Service was very fast, but not pushy. Our waiter was happy to provide recommendations upon request, and the bartenders made excellent cocktails. My wife loved her cucumber martini, and my Old Fashioned was fantastic. My wife;s Filet was cooked perfectly, as was my Hanger Steak. The portions for the sides were also very generous. We were stuffed by the end of out meal, so much so that we did not even have room left for desert.
We even got our parking validated by the hostess, a small very very appreciated gesture since parking in New Haven can be so frustrating and difficult.
Quality of food wasn’t it’s best, I’ve had better for way less. Service sucked! Way over priced, food too salty.
The BEST steak!!! Worth EVER dollar spent. I want the chef to cook at my house. The services was awesome. I would go back every night if I could.
Starting with it was a weeknight not very busy. Service was not very good, waiter not friendly or attentive, rarely checked on us, couldn't find him when we needed something. Steak was initially overdone, returned and then a bit undercooked, whatever I ate it was good not great. Just disappointed expected a higher end experience.

Everyone was extremely friendly and their attention to detail with making you have a wonderful experience is top notch. Even with a big party going on in their private space, I felt like they weren’t even there with the attention we received.
It was nice, my first visit and the ambiance is wonderful. The food selection is great and I could have done better with my selection.

Service was incredibly slow. Food was solid as usual but my hanger steak was not medium rare.
The food was excellent, great ambiance. The restaurant was very quiet and we were able to have a business meeting without having to raise our voices to be heard. My only criticism is that it was uncomfortably cold in the restaurant.

My first time there my sister and I took our mom for dinner before a show at the Shubert. Food and service was excellent. This time was the opposite unfortunately. I allowed for the same 11/2 hour for dinner and made reservations accordingly. We were told upon arrival we would be better off sitting at the bar which we declined. We were seated at a table but the service was not good. We felt like we were an inconvenience having to get to the show.
Edaurdo was an attentive server. Seafood tower was outstanding. Entree's (filet mignon and ribeye filet) were delicious ... cooked perfectly. Fondue desert was fun and tasty too.
Can't wait to head back to Jack's!
Very nice celebratory dinner
The place did not have a “speakeasy” type feel as expected. The steaks were ok, not great, not bad. The double baked potato was weird.
I was very disappointed with my lastest visit. Having been multiple times, I decided to bring my family here for lunch after graduation. The hostess who became our waiter said we couldn’t have the prix fix menu as it ends at 230, despite multiple signs and menu saying it was available until 3p (and we were seated at 215 and still refused the menu). Begrudgingly we order steaks off the dinner menu, only to find out they were completely out of Hanger Steak, which 3 people ordered. The waiter continued to be rude and dismissive to our questions, we had to flag down another waiter to even get ours. Very disappointed in the service and experience which completely took away from the celebration and excellent food.
The food was good but not amazing. Our waiter wasn’t the most hospitable/friendly and one of our meals came out 10 minutes after the rest, making it so the rest of the table had to eat without them to make sure ours didn’t go cold
We made reservations but the table wasn’t ready when we arrived. That was okay because there was space at the bar, which was lovely. Our table became ready but was in a terrible location, squashed by the door, next to the hostess station. We opted to stay at the bar. Service was attentive at the bar and the food was pretty good in terms of quality and portion size. I was a little annoyed that my scallop potatoes were not done well- very bland. The creamed spinach was really just whole leaf spinach floating in cream. Not properly done either- hence why the food was just “okay”. My husband got a pasta dish, which he really enjoyed. Fun, cool ambiance and right down the street from The Shubert for a great before show option.
I felt it was expensive for what you get. Steaks were good. Seafood was better. Sides are petite plus and not big enough to share. Service was good except they kept trying to take plates before people were done eating. They added 20% gratuity for party of six.
I took my wife and three young children for Mother’s Day . We were greeted warmly and promptly seated. Our waiter named Robert was pleasant and attentive. They have a great children’s menu that is priced fairly. The food was delicious. I would definitely return.
Food was very good until I received the bill and all the appetizer were suppose to be half off and we were informed by the server that the price would automatically come up as half off but as you see the attached bill that didn't happen and when he approached management to have the bill corrected they refused to do so, so I urge everyone to double check what you were told and make sure your bill is not an extra 50 bucks because you were misinformed... so because of the this deception I have to give them 1 star .. dishonesty is not something I reward!! I was gonna give the server 18% Gratuity which would have been $34.00 but since he misinformed us and over charged us I deducted the $23.00 error from his tip and wrote it on the receipt so he knew ...
I usually take my mother and wife to the buffet at the top of the Omni Hotel in downtown New Haven. They weren't taking anymore reservations this year. We were all presently surprised at how good the food tastes. The wait staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. My only complaint was that our food took to long to cook.
Loved this place it was such a nice dinner. We had no set waiter... so it made things kind of confusing. The staff seemed all over the place but overall it was great
Ehhhh - it was ok. The service was a little wonky. It seemed like the guy who was our waiter forgot about us, but the hostess stepped up. The hostess was very sweet and attentive. Not sure if she was supposed to be our waitress or not, but she was great. She even brought us complimentary champagne at the end of dinner.
The food was ok - not great. Both our steaks were a little cool, like they had been sitting for a little too long waiting to be delivered.
Wonderful dinner at Jack's Bar and Steakhouse this past Saturday. Food and service was excellent. We will definitely return. Robert, our server was very attentive and took great care of us.
Service staff is very nice but the quality of service is very poor. I have been four times and it is the same experience every time— good food, nice staff, horrible service.
Food was good ,but mixed up our steak orders. A little pricey!
Menu selection was excellent as was the food.
I had the diver scallop special. I was allowed to alter the dish for sides I preferred with no extra cost. The scallops were sweet, perfectly satued in butter. The asparagus was the best I ever had.
My friend had a perfectly prepared filet mignon with a side of scalloped potatoes. The potatoes were cooked to perfection.
We were going to a show at the Shubert so received 25% off our bill. Regardless the prices are reasonable for the meal. We plan on going back regardless if we get a discount.
Not recommend dodgy poor service no class highly suggest longhorns or even outback not to mention astronomical prices for such poor quality hospitality was second class reservations were made through the app management should have not accepted due to private party renting out the bar side we made 9pm reservations and exspected to stay and enjoy our evening that did not happen obviously do not try waste of time even writing this .
My wife & I came to Jack's right before a show at the Shubert. The staff was very friendly and we were seated almost immediately. The food we had was absolutely amazing (French Onion Soup, Crab Cakes, and the Lobster w/ pasta). The only thing I would recommend would be more melted cheese on the soup, but that's just a minor detail. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Best dinners we’ve had in a long time. Prices are high but I cannot say it wasn’t worth it!! Mixed drinks are OK nothing fantastic but we’ve not sampled the full range. Absolutely, loved the steak and the Parpadelle pasta was outstanding.
