Average experience. Seated late for reservation. After ordering took an hour + to get our food. Very slow service, understaffed. We had finished a cocktail and our bottle of wine before food arrived. Suggest ordering an appetizer. Halibut overdone but chicken delicious. Cool ambiance & lobby bar is a great place esp if you like gin but they need to get their service in order.

Hackrabbit... I had high hopes for this restaurant due to the association with its celebrity chef. So much so, that I took friends there who were visiting from China who frequent Michelin-rated restaurants often, while traveling. Although I cannot speak for the entrées, the shared 'Special' was not on par with even mediocre Portland dining. The shared meal consisted of a pork loin (overcooked and under-flavored) with breaded rock (or other small-sized) shrimp, shellfish and mushrooms. The rock shrimp tasted like popcorn shrimp from a fast food restaurant and we left most of them behind. The shellfish was fine. The mushrooms were decent but very spicy, not fitting with any other part of the mostly bland meal. There was a duck Au Jus that was tasty and helped make the pork more edible but overall, this meal was a strike out. The salad we ate prior was weak, the ham appetizer (Around the World in 8 Hams) was weak, the deviled eggs were a strange texture and although interesting, not something I would recommend. I was embarrassed to have wasted one of only a few nights out with my friends, at this restaurant. I'll try it again with entrées on the next go-around and hopefully, I can leave a more favorable review. Everyone can have a bad night; maybe that was the case, last weekend.

We selected Jackrabbit for its walking distance to the Schnitz. Atmosphere and décor is really great, staff were very responsive. Very nice place, and casual elegance is a good descriptor. We do not generally go out to dinner and to spend $100.00 for dinner is a big deal for us and a once a year occurrence at best.

We had a reservation at Jackrabbit and some tables were lingering so we were asked to wait at the bar. A few minutes later, a manager came over, apologized profusely and bought the drinks in front of us and a second round. Shortly thereafter we were ushered to our table. Service was exceptional at the bar as well as in the dining room. The Butcher’s Choice of the day was a great take on Cassoulet, the deviled eggs were outstanding and the half-she’ll oysters were very fresh. The Tombo Crudo was wonderful and also very fresh. Overall, it was a delightful evening.

The food has been outstanding each time I've been here. A highlight is the French onion soup, which comes with a hunk of bone + marrow stood up in it, and a special spoon to extract all the goodness. Sublime. The trout special was popular with my lunch group, and the assembly of herbs and vegetables to accompany was inspired.

My only complaint has to do with the service. I've been here twice before with acceptable but somewhat disaffected service, but this last visit was not acceptable. Despite that I had made a reservation several days in advance for a party of 5, we were largely ignored once the initial visit to our table occurred. There was not a sense that they staff noticed or cared that we were being neglected. Our food cam out super fast, and it was delicious. The dessert (a cheesecake) was just so-so. I'd like to be able to make this a go-to business lunch on my circuit, but I cannot unless the service comes up, which is unfair to the food.

Took my wife here for a birthday dinner. She had the 28 day aged striploin and I had the stuffed trout. They were fantastic! Our favorite drinks were the beet and gin cocktail (Mill Ends) and the rye and cinar cocktail (Bespoke). They were very well balanced, spiced, spirit forward, perfect.

Both burgers at our table were burnt to a crisp even though waiter said they'd be medium rare. Service was uninspiring. Decor was interesting.

This is a very good restaurant, we shared the rabbit and thought is was very good and different from our normal fare. The cocktails were also very different from anything we have experienced, but they were tasty. The only negative was the tables are very close together. We could hear everything our neighbors said and they could hear us. I wouldn't recomend this place for a serious discussion.

My friend and I were in Portland for a weekend trip and after going to see a basketball game, we were starved. This restaurant is downtown and was close to our hotel, so I made a quick reservation on opentable. We arrived early and were promptly seated. This place is CUTE! The details- right down to their steak knives are fab. We each ordered a burger and it was perfect. Delicious! I wish we were hungry enough to try the desserts, but we couldn't. Their food was great. The service was fabulous and their wine list was pretty good! Next time- we're trying the oysters. At this time- the restaurant has been in business under a year, but I'm hopeful they'll be around for a while.

We completely agree with the reviews that detail the extremely slow service. We had a 730 reservation and were seated on time and ordered drinks. The drinks had not come by 805, and the waitress came back and took our dinner order. Drinks finally showed up at about 815 and dinner had not come by 9pm. We asked if our meals had been "lost" and we're told they were extremely busy--even though you could just look around and see that half the restaurant was empty. As the waitress stomped away from our table she unfortunately didn't wait to get out of eyesight before yelling an expletive as she stormed back to the kitchen. Food showed up at 915, and it was great! However the extremely delayed service and the attitude of the waitress far overpowered the evening and we had all decided that there wouldn't be any second chance.

Good food. Terrible service.

Went there for their Thanksgiving Dinner- a varied menu, thoughtful and creative. Service was outstanding, loved the cocktails and the food. What I liked most is that they did like their rabbit theme (including the plates, an attention to detail that I loved), but didn't go overboard.

Hands down, a great spot to dine in Portland, Oregon, whatever the occasion. Some things to consider, after eating and staying in The Duniway Hotel: be careful of the salt content in the sauces and purees in the dishes. For the Jackrabbit burger with egg and foie gras, use a bun that can hold and absorb all of the ingredients without falling apart or flaking into pieces. Remind all staff, regardless of breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or late night, to be respectful, polite, and calm; and to accommodate all guests and consumers of specific requests, within reason during working hours, even if working hours are on the borderline of closing, because in the hotel and restaurant industry, there is leeway within those timeframes of serving food and alcohol ( i.e. a restaurant and hotel are different from a gas station or convenience store that may operate sales on the clock). Consider working with the legal department of The Duniway Hotel to add the raw bar menu to in-room dining, by including the raw food disclaimer to the in-room menu, because the oysters I had in the restaurant, should be available in-room, due to the fact that the oysters were the best I have had in 365 days, from anywhere.

Over the past few months, I have been to Jackrabbit several times. The food is good, and the wait staff is attentive and courteous. Last weekend, however, I met a friend for lunch. We ordered simple green salads with a "side of protein," two cups of tea, and two scoops of gelato. The bill was $68.00! It was too exepensive for the amount of food we were served even in a trendy restaurant. As a result, we may not go back. If we do, we will NOT order green salads ($14.00 each plus $10.00 each to add a small slice of cooked salmon.)

Unusual red meat recipes done well. The service, however, is consistently poor. 20 minutes is way too long for them to take our drink orders--and it was not a busy evening.

My partner and I like food a lot and when we celebrate a special occasion we don't mind going all out. I was recommended by a co-worker to go to this place and I had heard great reviews. For appetizers, we loved the deviled eggs (they were our favorite part) and the oysters were good even though one of mine was about 60% sand and had a large piece of broken shell in it--good thing I didn't go for it! We chose the braised rabbit as a shared supper (because as a restaurant called Jackrabbit, it seemed appropriate). The salad was amazing but the rabbit itself was surprisingly dry and didn't really have a $75 taste. We were kind of bummed about the rabbit to be honest but we did get A LOT of food--leftovers! We also ordered some house potatoes on the side and this might have been the most disappointing part. The potatoes kind of tasted like old fryer oil--maybe it was fancy oil that we didn't have the palate for. Typically, when we go out for our big nights, we really don't care about our bill but this one surprised us because it didn't feel like it matched the experience. We did love all of the walnut furniture and flooring around the restaurant as we are woodworkers.

Wonderful, inventive food, with great attention to detail. Great service. My companion suddenly couldn't make it to dinner, leaving me as that horror known as the lone diner. Everyone was SOOOOO nice to me. I'd cheerfully go back, alone or with someone. It IS a bit louder than I prefer, but isn't that one of the benefits of dining alone?? I really loved this place!

My wife and I chose this spot for our anniversary dinner. They were very welcoming and awesome at helping us celebrate our special day. They sent us over an extra dessert, the pumpkin "spiceless" latte, which was amazing. All the food was super delicious. I loved the delicata squash salad and my entree, which was the striploin steak.

We ordered the pig's head. It's all about the presentation. I wish they would present it and then take it back and prep it for eating. Depending which table/booth you're seated will determine if it's hard or really difficult to carve & dish. The puttanesca really shines. The beef heart tartare falls flat. The ham around the world is pricey but fun & pretty good. Overall the food is 3-3.5 stars.
Lots of opportunity for improvement on the service. When asked for key must-have dishes, don't mention 75% of the menu. There's a difference between checking in and hovering annoyingly. Most importantly, none of the servers should EVER stick their finger in your dish/ touch your food (yes it was on purpose.)

Sound level can get pretty high in here when crowded that it makes it hard to have a conversation with your table. Cool vibe, attached to the hotel.

Food was great - would get the bacon chop to go next time. Service was subpar for the ambition of the restaurant. Extremely loud and not able to hear each other - even when raising voices. This was a special occasion birthday celebration and it was not even recognized. Much better places in Portland to go for a special celebration.

We went there n to try the Halloween dessert Dirt and Worms that we had seen in a local TV show and try out the place. We made reservations in Open Table and arrived 10 min early. We sat in the bar after checking in with the hostess. After 20 min went by my husband checked in. They told us our table was soon to be ready, the people were staying longer than expected. Another 20 min went by. My hubby checked. Now it was apparent they had forgotten us. Oops. We were comped a drink and waited another 20 min. We were finally seated an hour after our reservation. But by now we were being treated like Kings. Comped an appetizer. The manager came over several times. Once seated our waitress was great and our food was great! I loved the diversity of the menu. And we did Get our dessert. And the pastry chef came out to say hi! We will be back. What started as a frustrating experience was made more than good by the staff.

Outstanding. Really creative dishes superbly prepared. Don’t miss the pigs ears . The market surprise was a terrine made with meat from the trotters (I think). And the roasted cauliflower
With duck fat was so good.
I had the lamb (divine) and my GF had the trout(good also).
Definitely a new favorite. 👍👍👍

I went here on a date with my wife. We loved the atmosphere, the fancy hardwood paneling and furnishings and the chandeliers made of bike frames. Our server, Kim, I think, was very attentive. The food was fantastic. I had the trout and my wife ordered the papardelle with lamb. The dessert was probably the best I've had in a year or two.

I was fairly disappointed with my dinner at Jack Rabbit as was my friend that was visiting from out of town. The cost for the two of us to have dinner with one drink each, no appetizers, no desert was $95. Unfortunately for that price I expected something amazing on my plate. I had the Roasted chicken and ordered a side of Duck fat cauliflower; my friend had the trout. Both dishes were mediocre at best. Service was pretty good and probably the best thing about dining here. I won't go back nor will I recommend it to anyone. For almost $100 for two to dine I expect amazing food and amazing service. I didn't get either.
