The selection of Scotch knows no bounds, the food is good and the service most accommodating.
Outstandingly knowledgeable staff!
Leared a tremendous amount and had a fantastic time!
You won't get in w/out a reservation, but you must go if you appreciate whisky (snob or not.) A destination you will always remember.
We LOVE Jack Rose (almost as much as we love our whisky). For any whisky-lover it is a must-go in DC. We shared about six different one ounce samples, and also had a huge juicy steak, which was amazing. It was a Monday night, so it was not crowded at all, but we've been other nights and it gets a nice group. You can even enjoy cigars with your tasting (which is a great experience if you haven't tried it). Definitely recommend.
Excellent food and service. Throughly enjoyed ourselves.
Limited menu but all was good. The chicken was the best I've ever had. Seriously, its great.
We ordered the “short rib” from the menu, and it was strange that the server kept coming by and saying “your pasta is almost ready”. When it finally arrived, it was not even short rib, it was brisket... the dish tasted fine but I wouldn’t have ordered that cut of meat if it were listed correctly on the menu. More generally, the service was extremely slow, and they took a long time to seat us even though we had a reservation and the table they sat us at was ready.
Our waiter was great! The drink selection was very good, but the food was just okay
My wife and I (from KC) have been to 3 of the top 7 whiskey rooms in the US. We both agreed this was our favorite as the service was very personal, knowledgeable and efficient with orders. Christian was outstanding with his service. We will definitely be back when we visit DC.
Awesome bourbon list...
To be honest, I am not a fan of sitting that close to a bar while I pay for fine dining. The bartender was overwhelmingly loud as she told stories about whiskeys. Also, our server seemed somewhat disinterested and another gentleman ended up helping us far more often. Our food was tasty but I felt a bit overpriced.
Cool bar for sure. Food was good. Absolutely no complaints, but probably not a great value for the cost. We had the bone in ribeye and the short ribs. Also had some oysters. Sides were Brussels sprouts and cauliflower gratin. Shared some beignets after. Cocktails and bourbons excellent.
Last weekend living in DC
One of my favorites in dc, can’t recommend enough.
Food was delicious and service was top notch. Had the scallops and braised short rib pasta. Tried 8 different bourbons and ryes - the selection is almost overwhelming. Perhaps most importantly, got the brown butter cake w/ salted caramel gelato - I could eat that every day for the rest of my life.
Awesome. Incredible service and food.
If you are a bourbon or whiskey person, you can’t miss this place. The selection is outstanding and the staff is very knowledgeable. And for non-purists, they make an amazing Manhattan too! We didn’t go for the food, but turned out the food was wonderful as well. This was a perfect place for my bourbon-loving husband’s milestone birthday.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because he’s a big whiskey guy and it was an awesome experience! We went on a Sunday night so it was pretty dead but our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the whiskeys and we had a fun time. Highly recommend for a special occasion because it is pricey
Really cool location, tons of bourbon and whiskey, service was great, a little slow but they were packed. We only had the appetizer but it was tasty.
Always amazing that the servers can opine in great depth on the different whiskeys !
Great service and terrific food! Thank you
Great meal, great service, great atmosphere, great drinks. All round fantastic time!
The charcuterie plate contained run of the mill cold cuts. The “crackers and cheese” consisted of broken up bread stick like things with a small dish of a cheese-wis substance. Small dishes of olives, nuts and a few pieces of popcorn. Also, the plate was for four people but only three deviled eggs were included. The main dishes were actually pretty good and all four of us did take the leftovers home. Service was sloooooooow and infrequent. Noise level was CRAZY LOUD. The owners should consider moving the dining area, (currently up against the bar railing) up to the second level. Talking across the table, amongst the four of us, required multiple repeats and clarifications. I did enjoy the vast bourbon selection though, I must say. Would I go back? Honestly, kind of a one and done experience.
Our server Charles was amazing! The whiskey was out of this word with very knowledgeable staff and very friendly! The food was ok, we only had appetizers so I can’t speak for the main course but the hush puppies were out of this world! Wings were pretty good, but the crispy chicken skins were too salty not really our style but we were trying something new. Will definitely be coming back and asking for Charles!
Great - it is an impressive place for some great scotch. Definitely ask for the whiskey advisor to help pick out the perfect choice.
This is long, but I hope useful - particularly the DRINK part, if you’re a whiskey taster.
FOOD - the biscuits, pork chop and short ribs were great. The fried oysters were juicy, but the cornmeal breading was too heavy and we didn’t finish them.
DRINKS - we’re bourbon lovers and love doing tastings. A good way to try before buying a full - and often expensive - bottle.
On our second round, the bartender Chris came over with five bottles, including two we’d ordered, but only one of those pre-poured. He suggested we may not like the other wed ordered and told us about the three extras he’s brought with him, then left us to discuss. We chose one of his rec’s and were quite happy.
This is IMPORTANT because the one we ordered that he didn’t pre-pour was twice the price of the ones he brought as suggestions. Yes, he have us LESS EXPENSIVE options because he wanted us to like what we were drinking.
Chris was not only amiable, but very knowledgeable about the bourbons, distilleries, history, etc. Hence the reason he made the suggestions he did, as he understood pricing vs actual value.
SERVICE - this one was rated lower because our actual waitress was not particularly attentive. However, since we’ve been before and know one of the waiters who has been great (thanks, Christian!!) we were able to ask him questions when he stopped by. He also was the one to arrange to have Chris to the table. It saved the night.
If you like a good whiskey Bourbon, Scotch, Rye etc. in a casual unpretentious setting this is THE place
The food was delicious. Of course the bourbon and whiskey selection is the best in the U.S. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Always a great vibe a Jack Rose.
I will be back very soon.
We came here NYE but it was also a joint milestone birthday. I don't remember mentioning those but we arrived to a card on the table, and were given free dessert. We were told to take as long as we needed and the recommendation of hush puppies went down very well! It was a little loud and dark but general ambience and music fabulous. Could have made more of the new year countdown. Will definitely go back if ever in DC again. Whisky selection is incredible.
We got 3 appetizers-hush puppies, wings and Brussel sprouts. Entrees were fantastic-halibut, lamb and venison. We also had the bourbon balls and butter cake and it was fantastic. We even go to go see the speakeasy even though it was closed. Would definitely recommending trying this place and will definitely be back when I come back to DC.
Fantastic food and if you enjoy scotch I'm not sure where else you might go!
Our waiter, Christian, was really outstanding! Awesome birthday celebration evening!
Amazing flavors. Great dinner. Smell of cigars wafted into dining area. But enjoyed anyway!!!
I took a close friend out for a birthday dinner. We had a great time. The food was terrific and out waiter, Ryan, really enhanced the experience with his attentiveness to detail and outgoing personality. I would definitely go back. Only one word of warning: The dining room is adjacent to the bar and can be very noisy. So, in between mouthfuls of great food, you'll need to speak loudly.
Whisk(e)y lovers paradise. They claim to have over 2700 bottles of whiskey on hand at any given time. I started my evening enjoying one of their signature cocktails and then started trying some bourbons I have always wanted to try. What is really impressive about their service is they display the bottle when they serve you your drink. The servers were very helpful and informative. I really enjoyed the experience.
Went on a Sunday night and it was quiet and calm. Had oysters and drinks. Service and knowledge of staff was incredible. My husband was in heaven!
Food was awesome, but Service was quite bad.
The noise level would be the thing that I wouldn't come again!
Great saloon bar as indicated. Great selection of whiskeys but over priced for a one and two once pour. But however a great experience to visit a place that has the most rare whiskey and bourbon
Celebrated my friends bday at Jack Rose, and was
Amazing whiskey selection
Excellent whiskey selection & for learning more about whiskey. Chris, the whiskey connoisseur, was great at enlightening us on the history and types of whiskey. Although we didn't get full entrees, the appetizers were good.
