The food was so perfectly seasoned and well cooked. Interesting cocktails. Love the speak easy ambiance of this place. It was my husbands first time here and he loved it too. Nice way to spend Valentine's Day!
Nice restaurant with nice ambiance but the noise level was high. Great waiter. Very friendly, but the food took forever to come out. Not his fault. Food was not good. I had the lamb and my husband had the pork chop. The people with us had the 4 course meal. They said theirs was just “ok”. The lamb had good flavor but was drowning in grease. The potatoes I swear were hash browns. We both ordered salads. My husband, who will eat almost anything, did not eat it as he said the greens were very bitter. Mine was DROWNING (there’s that word again) in salad dressing. We have both eaten in many restaurants all over the country, so we know good food. This was NOT good food. Not for a $350 meal. We will not be coming back.
Went out with friends of ours, everything was amazing. The food, service, and the drinks were outstanding. Thank you!
Delicious food, tasty drinks, and great service! The ambiance is perfect for a quiet night out! Will definitely come back!
Jack & Charlie's is our favorite restaurant in Visalia
Delicious food and wonderful service. Our server was amazing. He gave us a tour of the restaurant and also recconended a few dishes for us. We loved the decor of the restaurant. There is a lot of history there. We will definitely be going back again.
A memorable culinary experience that featured many of the tastes and textures experienced at only the best of French or Continental kitchens. The salads were creative and delicious and the main courses were exceptional. Overall: tasty, well seasoned, insightfully balanced and truly unique. A pleasurable meal at a very reasonable price.
The food and atmosphere were superb
I love that they make frequent menu changes. It’s always exciting trying new dishes
One of my favorite haunts. Love the vibe and the food and the service.
Not a good experience this eve. I had a reservation and was seated an hour after the reservation. It looked like they had no help. It was awkward because this was business so I didn’t want to make a scene. This is a primo place so to Mangement: get your act together. Once seated we ordered a bottle of wine, only to be told it was not in stock. We ordered appetizers that were never delivered. rhe entrees were good but the overall experience was pretty bad so we paid and left. To management:whatever is going on, get it fixed.
High quality food; great wait and hostess staff. Pleasantly surprised for Visalia.
The wedge salad wasn’t good the quality of the lettuce was very poor.
Everything was amazing! Our server was delightful! The low service rating is for the lack of a hostess and rude greeting once someone finally noticed us and overheard me telling the rest of my party that I wasn't sure where we were supposed to go and that I couldn't get anyone's attention. We had a reservation and the employee who finally "greeted" us rudely ignored us standing there for several minutes until finally huffily telling us that there was a private party happening in the bar in response to my informing her of our reservation. She acted like we had done something wrong. If the food and our server hadn't been so wonderful I would not be returning. Some people wouldn't be so forgiving especially considering the level of experience you expect when paying for fine dining.
Food was excellent - service a bit slow. My brother from NYC was very impressed with the food and character of Jack & Charlie’s.
Jack and Charlie’s is definitely the BEST restaurant in Visalia! I have been there several times and have never been disappointed in any way. Every dish has been delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing and quiet and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
The place was quite interesting. We were in town and needed a place for dinner. I had no idea what we were getting into. First of all, its not easy to find. Its located in a basement-type level where you have to walk downstairs to get to it. I wish we had known this ahead of time. Secondly, the service was painfully slow. I counted a total of 5 tables, 3 in the bar and 1 in the dining room, then my husband and I. Two servers seemed to be working, though I could hear them chatting around the corner most of the time. Each course came out separately and gave us plenty of time to "savor" the flavor. However, it doesn't take 30 minutes to eat a salad. I suppose if we were with a group, the lingering wouldn't have been so bad, but we were both tired from a day of travel and were ready to eat and go back to our hotel. My husband got the special of the day for $60 (soup, salad, steak w/veggies, dessert) and I had the salad and vegetarian dinner. Both meals tasted great, but I'm not sure it was the time or place we wanted to drop $100+. Its not just the price that would keep me from returning, but the very slow service would make me think hard about how much time i'm willing to spend on dinner. Two hours is a bit much for me to sit in one place!
This was a birthday celebration dinner. Service was attentive throughout the night. We selected the prix fixe offer which included soup, salad, entree and dessert. No substitutions were allowed. I would have chosen a different dessert had that been a choice. The shrimp was served with heads on which was unexpected and a bit disconcerting. We had a pleasant experience mainly due to the service and calm (if not quiet) atmosphere. We enjoyed the music selections which were 40s and 50s standards, fitting for the ambience.
Fun place. It had the ambiance of an old speak easy. The service was great. I would definitely go there again.
Great food and great service. The four course dinner was wonderful.
We were in Visalia, from Fresno, for business. We have been to the Vintage Press and wanted to try something different.
We are so glad we chose Jack & Charlie's.
We loved the ambiance, the Frank Sinatra music, and the food.
Our server was delightful.
We will be back. In fact, I will be back with some girl friends soon for lunch.
I was in town for two days and discovered this restaurant on Opentable and loves it so much, that I came back the second night..
Intimate cozy atmosphere and Delicious food! Service was great too especially on the 2nd night..
Love the annual Julia Child’s Birthday dinner. It’s a must. Food fantastic. But Jack and Charlie’s is perfect for other times too: a causal dinner for two or for taking out of town guests for a fabulous meal.
The food was amazing and the service was outstanding, but the drink were not like I remember them. In fact last time I was there I didn’t care for the alcohol beverage . I think before we dine there we will be having drinks somewhere else. Everything else was so delicious and service was superb!
Reservations were made for our 52nd wedding anniversary and we were happy to go to a restaurant that we had not tried before.
Once we arrived our waitress was prompt in taking our order and bringing us our drinks. When our meal arrived, It was brought to us by someone other than our waitress which we thought was a little odd as the initial waitress said she would be our waitress for our dining experience.
Both my wife and myself ordered the "Prime Filet Mignon" with baked potato, green beans and miniature mushrooms with a side plate of bread and seasoned butter. The meal was excellent but a bit pricy for the area. The only drawback to our whole dining experience was the lack service during our dinner. Our waitress never did return to see if we would like to have had additional drinks or dessert for that matter. If it were not for the hostess who was stationed directly across from our table noticing that we had finished our dinner for some time came to our aid to clear the table and ask us if we would like dessert seeing that our supposed waitress had abandoned us. We also had to ask the hostess for our check as there was no one else stopping at our table.
As much as I hate to admit it, I left a 15% tip as I normally do, but in hindsight I should have given the tip to the hostess who not only did her job but the waitresses as well.
I do not plan on revisiting Jack & Charlie's anytime in the near future.

My wife and I had a great evening this Saturday at Jack and Charlie’s. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the drinks were awesome. Definitely recommend to people in Visalia to stop by and enjoy this little gem.
We enjoyed our meal at Jack and Charlie’s. The servers were excellent and the food was delicious. The decor is inviting.
Expensive, but great date night without the kids. Our server was friendly and good at making recommendations and explaining the menu.
Service was slow. They were friendly and polite, however.
Always love meeting up with friends for a great evening!!
Food is outstanding!!!! Our waitress had to be reminded a few times. Brought the wrong beer and said they ran out of what he wanted only after we mentioned it wasn’t what he ordered. Forgot a glass of wine and had to be reminded - half way through dinner, the glass came. Forgot the ground pepper on salads and the bartender had to bring it over finally. She had odd mannerisms in serving of the dishes. Considering the price per plate ((50 including salad, each) we expected better service. Chef deserves 10 stars!! ⭐️
Jack & Charlie's is our favorite restaurant in Visalia because the menu is always interesting and the chef is excellent.
Food fantastic! We ordered filet mignon and it was seasoned and seared to perfection! This was out first time here and being a Friday night the restaurant was quite empty! The staff was good, waitress was ok pulled out wrong bourdeux red wine never checked to make it was correct but ended up being a few dollars less so in the end it wasn’t a big deal!
We had a fantastic time! It was a quiet comfortable atmosphere, so conversation flowed easily throughout the dinner. The food was delicious. The chef does an amazing stroganoff. We will definitely be back for our nest celebration.
The server forgot our appetizer but apologized and gave us a free desert.
Food was outstanding. The menu at J&C has a nice feature in that there is a way to have lots of little plates. Tapas, mezze, or whatever you wan to call it. Great creativity and though in each one - there is opportunity for experimentation with little fear of committing to a big plate. Great cocktails mix the classics with thoughtful twists and variations. We had the morels (beautifully presented) and asparagus (cooked perfectly). The mac & cheese was amazing as was the crispy prok belly. Ricotta meatballs rounded it out. The cheese menu made for a perfect dessert. Only let-down was the by-the-glass wine offering. The full wine list was great, but we weren't ready for a full bottle. The wines by-the-glass were overly chilled making me wonder when they were opened (we ate early - yesterday's wine?). Service was fantastic and prompt and very patient. Space was nice if just a little dated. Overall, a great place in an area that needs great places. Keep up the good work! We will be back!
I love that jack and Charlie’s changes their menu frequently it makes every trip here a treat and never boring.
It's been awhile since I've eaten there but I will start going back again it was great
Everything was great! We want to go back very soon.
Great food and very quiet and relaxing place! Highly recommended
