J. Gilbert’s - Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - Omaha
Waited 30 plus minutes for water, our server Wendy was terrible. Didn’t say two words to us all night. Had to go to the host stand to tell them we had not been helped. Brought our friends out for a birthday dinner, and was very embarrassed at the service! Bought a bottle of wine and spent $300! Will not be back!
We spent 3 hours there. Got to our table on time 7pm waiter kept disappearing. Ran out of mashed potatoes. Waiter complained that he had to split the check between 3 couples. We had to hunt down valet on hotel side for our car because by the time we left no one was at our valet drop off site to get our car from. Food tasted good but we won’t be returning. At 10pm we had to ask for our check never spent 3 hours at dinner. Overall not a great experience.
Went for my husbands birthday service was great and so was the food- no complaints at all!
Great food & great service! Nice place. Went before a Creighton game. Got in and out in 45 minutes.
Best meal I have ever had! 100% worth trying! Steaks, soups, drinks were all fabulous. We will be back (maybe weekly).
This place is outstanding in location. Service was meant to be outstanding until it got busy and there was none; until there was a piece of hair in my dates salad. And a salad That we ended ☝ paying for. I like the place and things happen so it's all good . It will be especially good when Jewell opens and it gets Jazzy. Thanks!
Food was very good. Service was a problem - had to wait for initial order, had to wait for drink refills, had to wait to be asked for desert. Don’t know if understaffed or if just our waiter. Service really effected perception. My dinner companion thought her Salmon was outstanding, my steak was very good. I just expect better service for the expense.
Great new addition to Omaha. Although we probably don't need another steakhouse, we desperately need a cool new vibe restaurant. The smoked old fashioned is a fun drink to order. They serve in a small decanter with smoke inside from the smoke they use to cook the steaks.
The steaks were on par with other premium steakhouses in town. The sides were delicious. The wait staff were professional and accommodating.
I highly recommend you give J Gilberts a try.
Enjoyed a fabulous dinner with the kids. Great ambiance, food, cocktails and service!
Went here on NYE. Was very impressed with the steak and crab cakes especially. The lobster risotto was fantastic as well.
Great waiter was Perfect
Great food! Great service!
We enjoyed a Christmas gathering with condo friends and enjoyed everything so much I made a reservation for early New Years dinner. It was exceptional! The food was amazing and the service was top notch. I love that you are in Omaha.
The entire staff at was wonderful, knowledgeable about their menu, and made sure our meal and night out was great! Table ready at our desired time, and immediately met with our waiter upon arriving. Will make J. Gilbert's a must go to place for all occasions.
We went for a New Years Eve dinner with a group of friends and it was incredible. We were met with a cozy, warm escape from a bitter cold outside and immediate assistance from the front desk. We had a reservation so they were able to seat us right away. The noise level was enough that you could tell there were many people dining but not so loud that it was intrusive to our dinner. Our waiter was very patient with us as we had a couple friends who were running late. Their cocktail list was great. Their menu was phenomenal, there was not a single thing on our table that I wouldn't have enjoyed. I personally enjoyed the Maryland Crab bisque. First of all, it's poured for you AT YOUR TABLE and was just so delicious. I also had the lobster mac n cheese and OMG. From start to finish, we enjoyed our time spent at J. Gilbert's and will DEFINITELY be back.
This is my second visit and everything was delicious. It was a birthday celebration and they gave me a card and a free dessert.
My wife & I "discovered" J. Gilbert's in Kansas City several years back and had always enjoyed it. So, we were excited to hear they were coming to Omaha!
It was well worth the wait, too. We gave the place some time to 'hit their stride' and get the normal opening bugs worked out and we're glad we did. The few legitimate complaints/quibbles (service, food quality, noise, etc.) have been pretty well fixed and they're destined (I believe) to be another Omaha staple.
I had the bone-in ribeye and the missus had the filet medallions, both of which were among the best of the scores of steak dinners we've had around O-Town! Sides and appetizers were equally excellent; especially the crab cakes!
We were there around 'peak time' (6PM, Saturday), so it got full and busy while we were there. The ample staff kept up rather well and everyone seemed to be quite satisfied, as we were, with the all-around service. Cleanups were quick, neat and unobtrusive. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, efficient and professional and ready to be a serious or as silly as we wanted to be!
We're looking forward to our next visit and to sampling some of their other fare, on a different night. And, then another! Then, I'll be able to get a better impression of the overall experience, over time, and how well our first impressions have held up. Seafood next time? Yeah, I think I hear a salmon calling to me...
We took the occasion to dine at J Gilbert's for our anniversary. We have dined at J Gilbert's Overland Park
location. Omaha was just as good-maybe little better. We dine for Quality over Quantity. J Gilbert's has the
The atmosphere was very nice and felt very welcoming. Our server was Saul and he was attentive and did a fine job. The food was delicious and impressed our guests.
We went with a group of good friends and had fantastic food & fellowship! The service was awesome! Mandy did an super job.
Everything from the food and and amazing wine list, to the knowledgeable staff and beautiful layout make J. Gilbert’s a great place to eat. If you are celebrating a special occasion or looking for a great happy hour, this is the place. I highly recommend!
Great environment, nice selection and friendly service
1st time and very impressed. Will definitely return.
Enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at J. Gilbert’s. The food was fantastic and prices very reasonable for the amount of food you get. We did the price fix menu and ended up taking our desserts home to savor later because we were so full. The staff was very welcoming and our server was excellent. She made a point to stop by our table frequently to check in and see if we needed anything else. Look forward to dining here again soon!
Great experience! Our waiter Trevor was excellent. Will be back again.
Salmon was cooked perfectly and the rosemary Demi on the lamb was fantastic! I loved the boba in the champagne cocktail as well. We will return!
Our family much enjoyed our visit to J Gilberts. We especially enjoyed the efficiency and attentiveness of our waiter, Curtis. The food was excellent and our experience was perfect. Pricing was in line with the local area. As soon as the surrounding construction is complete, parking will be better. Thank you for a special evening.
Our first time here! Very nice sea bass was great! We were treated very well, excellent service!
A great new spot in downtown Omaha. Delicious food and friendly service was definitely the highlight. My wife and I both had the filet combo and we both chose the crab cakes to go with the filet. She had the carrots and asparagus and I had the au gratin potatoes and brussel sprouts for sides. All were very good! The waitress did a wonderful job checking in on us without being intrusive on our date. My wife had the crab bis soup which was fantastic and we shared the cheesecake which was also great. It’s a little noisy in there for an intimate date setting, but the bar area and wine display case are pretty cool. Overall we highly recommend.
We enjoyed a great meal from start to finish with great service. Highly recommended for fine dining or special occasions.
The steak was perfectly cooked, Brussels Sprouts were very flavorful. we thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant as well. We specifically liked the Old Fashioned!
First time going to J. Gilberts and it was fantastic! Loved the atmosphere, food, and drinks. We went for my husband's birthday and if you make a reservation noting you are there for a birthday, they will give you a free dessert! Will definitely be back!
Me and my wife have no complaints whatsoever. This restaurant is 1 of the best that we have been to in Omaha. It is hard to please the missus so we will be back.
First time there. Great food! Steaks were great but we really enjoyed the very creative sides. And the fact that each entree comes with two sides is a huge plus since most high end steak houses charge for sides. Manager gave us a tour of the upstairs party room. Modern, exciting design for the entire space. This will be a great addition to the Capitol District and our new Marriott!
If you want a great dining experience in Omaha’s Old Market area, J Gilbert’s is the place! Excellent service and food! We were a group of 8 and everyone raved about their meals. Several had the ‘prix ‘ dinners and they are so worth the $45 price tag! Steaks that are sooo tender!!
Don’t forget to order dessert if you don’t have the prix dinners-to die for!!
We had a wonderful meal at J Gilbert’s Omaha location! In the past we drove three hours to Kansas City because we could never get a comparable steak in Omaha. We are thrilled to have your restaurant in Omaha! The service was wonderful and made the meal even better.
This was a new highly-rated (Yelp) restaurant. We had a reservation. On arrival our table was not ready and we were encouraged to eat in the bar at a high top (no thank you). We understood that our table was not ready and suggested that we would go to the bar for a cocktail. The host said "Great, come back here (to the host stand) when you are done."
Really? How about "You come get us when our table is ready?!" "Oh, of course" the host responded.
The bartender displayed below average hospitality skills. Our waiter was fabulous. The food was okay, nothing special.
I assume the restaurant is experiencing opening pains. At least I hope so.
We made reservations 3 weeks ago and were excited about trying J. Gilbert's for the first time. Upon arrival, we were offered two choices of seating: a table next to the entrance or a high top also next to the entrance. Both were located in the bar. Neither was what we expected having booked several weeks in advance. After being told reservations were very tight and they would see if there was another option available, we were very comfortably seated in the dining room. Wait staff was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a filet/shrimp combo with poblano scalloped potatoes and burnt ends mac and cheese. Various parts of my meal were rather inconsistent. While I very much enjoyed the filet, the shrimp was overcooked and Mac and cheese rather flavorless. The potatoes were good but lukewarm. For the price, I expected better.
We were very pleased with our dinner. We both had the delicious sea bass and risotto. It was excellent.
