J Bistro Downtown Ratings and Reviews
Have been there 4-5 times before and it has been always much better than this evening....Kind of disappointing as we took my husbands Stepmom, who had never been there before. There was 4 of us, my food was good and my mothers food was good... My husband ordered the cubano sandwich and it was horrid..... His Stepmom ordered these lobster appetizers (4 bite size morsels for $12) and they were just okay.... We ordered a bread plate, (they do not give you bread with your meal...) and a cheese board which was just okay. I noticed the salads were sadly lacking and they usually have a good salad. The dessert was good
Great food, atmosphere, service and multiple gluten free options. Nice wine selection and Sarah was such a great server. She was filling water, getting drinks and on top of it. She was probably the best server I have had in 2 years. The short rib was perfect and the steak had a great farm fresh flavor.
I have been in twice before with friends on business and have had pleasant experiences so decided to treat my wife of 35 years to a valentines dinner. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and took to our table. It was a busy night which was nice to see. Entertainment was a nice touch and our server Jason was professional and very attentive. We started with the house made red wine & fig bread. Moist and delicious. We both decided to go with the features for the evening. My wife's steak was creative and perfectly cooked and presented beautifully. The Chilean Sea Bass was as good as it gets. Thank you for a romantic night out. Best Restaurant in the area hands down! You can tell they really care because of the detail that is put into the entire experience.
Met friends from Toledo, we are from west side of Cleveland. The drive was 50 minutes and easy to find. Our first time to J Bistro and this area of Sandusky.
The menu is not extensive on the website, but they had many specials for the day to choose from too. I had the crab cakes (divine) and they made me a nice green salad. My husband ordered one of the specials: gourmet hamburger and truffle fries (he licked his plate clean). Both friends enjoyed their dishes as well. A place we will meet again.
Date nights for me and my wife are few and far between. After our movie which was disappointing to say the least we decided to dine at JBistro. Our Server was warm and friendly and very attentive even though they were busy that evening which we were glad to see. The Menu small but creative. This is the kind of restaurant we usually travel to Cleveland to dine at. Our server suggested we tried the General Tso Brussels Sprouts to start. Caramelized and perfectly crispy. They were delicious. We wanted to try everything but after popcorn at the movies we kept it simple and I ordered the Breakfast Ravioli and my wife ordered the Scallops. We are foodies so we went with the most unusual flavor combinations. The Breakfast Ravioli tasted just like having breakfast at a local diner but elevated 20 times higher. Very Impressive for a Sandusky restaurant to be pulling off food like this. The scallops sweet and succulent and placed on top of a salty buttery popcorn puree. (not that we didn't get enough popcorn at the show but these were worth the double dose) . Our movie was two thumbs down but we give JBistro two thumbs up for a wonderful evening out.
We are usually huge fans of yours but were sadly disappointed this time. We thought the menu was a bit limited which may have been due to the time of year. Ended up staying for drinks and apps. Sprouts and devils on horsebackwere just so-so. Service was great, as always. Better luck next time.
Menu small and interesting. Very creative. Although reluctant I ordered the cracker jack scallops and was pleasingly surprised that the flavor combinations worked so brilliant together. It was a home run! This was a big city experience in a small northeast Ohio town. If ever in the area again this will be my first stop.
We have always had great meals at J Bistro and have come to expect this. We do not eat there too often since it is a bit pricey. This past visit was quite disappointing. The menu was somewhat limited, and nothing, except the amazing brussel sprouts, was really appealing. Yet, we were there and had to eat. The food was good but not what we have come to expect from this creative chef.
We came here with a party of 10 for my parents anniversary. I've been here in the past and loved the seafood dishes. Half of our party ordered burgers, which they enjoyed. Others ordered seafood dishes. The halibut was great. The appetizers were ok - we ordered almost one of each. No one liked the duck fries. When I came in the past, the bread came with butter that was so good, mixed with something sweet, but this time the butter spread was different, not as good. Perhaps they change their menu from time to time. I look forward to coming back for another special occasion for the Halibut!
We were visiting Sandusky and needed a place that made fresh food due to an allergy. J Bistro was top notch, the food was the prepared fresh and excellent too. The waiter we had was also great and was able to make recommendations for each of us. I highly recommend the Sea Bass and Brussel Sprouts. The brussel sprouts were the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting or living in Sandusky area. Worth the trip.
We were in Tuesday evening for the first time since last boating season. This is our go to restaurant in the Sandusky area. We love the small menu using always fresh ingredients and very creative as well. We have never had a bad meal here. This particular night we were in with another couple and enjoyed the arugula salad which my husband and I split and we also loved our entrees. We split one of each dessert at the table and everything was phenomenal from start to finish. We will be back! P.S. server that evening just added another dimension to our experience. She's a keeper.
We wouldn't have believed that Brussel Sprouts would've found their way to our table but we tried them--very, very good! We dined for Mother's Day and left very satisfied; the food was great, our server was attentive, and we'll definitely return. Highlights from the menu were the pork chops, the filet and the scallops!
Me and my wife sent our Son and a group of friends for prom last Saturday evening. They are still raving about the experience. Loved the unique and creative menu and now have a favorite new restaurant for special occasions in the future. Thank you JBistro for a wonderful evening!
I've been to J Bistro around a half dozen times and have enjoyed every visit. I always order something different and have never been disappointed. The service is excellent as well. If you happen to be in Sandusky be sure to make a reservation and enjoy j Bistro!
Brussels sprouts were wonderful and best part of the meal although everything was delicious. Server was pulled in a million directions waiting on tables and clearing and setting up tables. Not sure if this is usual but consequently service was a bit lacking. Only real negative was the noise.
My wife and I drove 45 minutes to J Bistro because of a recommendation from friends of ours, and boy am I happy that we decided to take the drive.
The taste and presentation of the food were simply amazing, and the service was attentive without being annoying.
We will definitely take the trip back to Sandusky to visit J Bistro again in the near future!
This was our 2nd experience dining at J. Bistro's and it was every bit as satisfying as the first. The food was outstanding, with members of our party of six raving about the swordfish and chilean sea bass entrees. And you cannot beat the brussel sprouts for an appetizer! The ambiance is so warm and inviting, I highly recommend you check this restaurant out. From dinner before the show at the theater around the corner to a romantic evening or special celebration - J. Bistro's will fit the bill.
I have had J Bistro on my wish list for a while. This week I finally made it over there. With a bit of bad luck an epic blizzard hit Cleveland precisely on that day. There was havoc on the roads, so it took me much longer than what it would usually take, but on a normal day this is an easy drive from Cleveland, if anyone is visiting the city or passing by. If you are going to Sandusky to have fun at Cedar Point you should also make sure to stop there for dinner after all those crazy rides. The food and the service were absolutely worth that difficult drive day. The service is flawless, the venue is very agreeable, and the food was amazing. I had the Prince Edward Island mussels with chorizo and tomatoes (perfectly done, the sauce is very well done), the oven-roasted mushroom pizza and the pistachio creme brulée. And would have loved to try so many more things on their menu, so I am sure I will have to go back. Five stars.
Our group of 8 ventured to J's Bistro for a birthday dinner. It was our first time there and we chose it because the menu looked interesting. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. We enjoyed our choices. Our only minor complaint was that we were seated in the main dining area and with 8and a large table it was hard to hear and follow conversation. We would return for the food.
Always a pleasant treat. The chef changes the menu frequently and is always coming up with new creative food for us to try. The pumpernickel dumplings and deviled eggs were a hit at our table as well as the Brussels sprouts which is a signature dish according to our server that evening. We always like to bring new guests to this restaurant as it is one of our favorites. Keep up the good work!
