Had a party of 6 reservations. Got there early sat at bar had a drink bartender was great and informative of what they were serving. Then seated and the waiter was Great again informative of menu and specials they had. Food was great and atmosphere was great! Everyone left there happy!!!!
Food was fresh and very tasty.
Definitely go back.
I was there after 9pm so might be louder earlier.
The food and atmosphere was amazing. The restaurant was clean, the restrooms were clean. We really enjoyed it. Thanks to the bartender, very nice, explained the menu and even provided some of her favorites. Thanks again for the warm welcome and excellent food.
The prime rib and crab cakes were excellent. I'd highly recommend these dishes. I love that you can bring your own wine and not pay a corkage fee. The rice and orzo side dish was also excellent. The restaurant was awfully noisy, my only real complaint.
This is one of our favorite restaurants! Their steak and bearnaise sauce is incredibly good, and my husband loves their crab cakes. Their french fries are also the best I have ever had. Their desserts are very large and incredibly good. Their service has always been great, with a perfect combination of professional yet personable. The ambiance is great as well. I highly recommend this restaurant!
I have dined here on several occasions and have always enjoyed excellent service and food. This time our server Stephen was in training and unsupervised. He was poorly prepared to wait just one table much less the four he apparently was responsible for while I was there. Disappointing for the price of dinner.
This place is a must. Got to go. Great all around place.
Good food, the meats, in particular, are recommended!
This is my new favorite restaurant in Raleigh (after Bojangles of course!) The food is excellent. The first time I went was for Father's Day and I had the prime rib extra cut - it was the thickest cut of beef I have ever had, very large portion and cooked to perfection. Also it is a bit unusual for this type of restaurant to have sushi, at least in my experience. I am not a sushi eater but on my second visit a couple of people in my party had the sushi and they said it was very good. My latest visit - my third- was also very good. I had the swordfish which had a white sauce - I do not recall exactly what it was - which was ok but I would prefer the fish just grilled with a little seasoning. That is just personal preference and I was served exactly what I requested. Everyone else enjoyed their meal as well. Even though it was a Friday evening and they were very busy, the food was served in very reasonable amount of time. The waiters/waitresses have been excellent. Afterwords we went to their outside patio area and relaxed there for a while. A very enjoyable evening.
Good Lunch Spot
It was our first time there and we would definitely go again!
Overall good visit...a couple of notes:
1. Generally really good food- We enjoyed the thin and crispy French fries as an appetizer; my wife had the Cypress Salad and it was quite tasty with its crispy chicken, avocados, bacon and pecans. I had the New Strip with NYO Mac and Cheese; the Mac and Cheese was really very good and it has a nice topping; the steak was good but however it was over cooked( I ordered it medium rare and it came out as medium well) so it lowered my food rating because I expected more for a $33 steak.
2. Ambiance- Overall it would have been good had it not been for an overly loud male patron in the next booth, and another table that had a really loud toddler. Neither parties seemed to be aware or even care about other diners; this reflected in my ambiance.
3. Service- the server was very attentive and helpful although at times she was overbearing and patronizing.
4. Overall- generally, I generally enjoyed my meal, the above items reflect in my overall rating.
Loved this restaurant! Great selection on menu , great service, really enjoyed the meal and outstanding staff. We ended eating at the bar and it was a great experience. Will definitely go back to try other dishes. We had salmon and steak both cooked perfectly with nice spices . Do not miss coleslaw or their incredible chocolate bundt cake!
I really like J Alexander’s. The food is just great. Shrimp Louis salad, yum yum ... great steaks too.
I wish they would bring back their artichokes
We brought my mother here for her birthday dinner. The staff thoughtfully included a card on the table with a happy birthday message inside. Well done.
The service was impeccable, and the staff were great with my 8 month old daughter. Much appreciated.
Finally, the food was awesome. I’d recommend the steak burger for anyone interested. My mother and wife both had the steak frites, and all 3 meals were cooked to the exact temperature ordered.
Such excellent service from Mike Harris. Good suggestions.
Crab cakes, fries and slaw were amazing. Service was excellent.
We decided to finally try J. Alexander's for my birthday. Good food, great service and close to home with plenty of parking. Mac and Cheese is the best. Would go back just for that. It is a bit noisy and very hard to carry on a conversation. The drink menu is a bit short so choices are limited.
Great place for a large party since the menu is so varied...something for everyone.
Excellent service and food
Great place to celebrate a special occasion! We had excellent service and the food was delicious.
As always, very good food and service!!
We sat in a booth near the window - away from t he kitchen. Very good water and wonderful food! We will return to J. Alexander's.
Great meal great service!! Will come back!! Thanks.
Very pleasant experience all around. We will go back soon.
Prime Rib was Phenomenal and the Carrot Cake even better. You MUST have the Carrot Cake!
Been here 6 times now and ordered a different food item each time. All have been fantastic.
This has become one of my favorite restaurants. A guaranteed pleaser for my wife and I.
I had family visiting from out of town and wanted a place that was easy dress code but good atmosphere. J Alexander was just that , the food was EXCELLENT the service was very good, and I will definitely recommend J Alexander.
J. Alexander’s is my favorite restaurant and for over a year I have been telling my wife of your amazing crab cakes. We based our wedding anniversary off of the restaurant and it’s location because we wanted to have a special dinner there. With a day of fun filled activities in the Raleigh area we traveled from our home in Greensboro, NC to have a late night candle dinner. When we arrived and ready to place our order of crab cakes the waiter told us with it being so late in the day that they ran out of crab cakes. Highly disappointed, we try to figure out another option but but did not see anything of interest. The waiter then changes what he said to “we necessarily didn’t run out but would not have enough time to cook the crab cakes.” This was highly disappointing and upsetting because of the following:
1. I was able to book a reservation for 9pm; if the staff did not have enough time or “did not want” to prepare a dish before closing then the restaurant should adjust their menu, change their operation hours, or stop seating at an certain hour before closing
2. Being that J. Alexander’s is as “moderate/high-end” restaurant, we felt it was very poor customer service to basically tell a customer that they didn’t want to prepare a certain dish because they were about to close.
3. The expectation is to value customers and to actually honor your philosophy which states to provide customers with the highest possible quality dining experience.
In addition to the waiters comment, while my wife went to the bathroom, the waiter comes by the table twice to ask if we have selected an option and if we found another restaurant? Although the waiter was pleasant in tone, this left me feeling rushed, not valued, and disrespected. I politely stated “not at the moment”. When my wife returned from the restroom we left the restaurant.
Again, I am highly disappointed and it put a damper on our anniversary night! It’s sad that chick-fil-a actually has better customer service.
As previous residents of Nashville, TN, J Alexander’s was one of our favorite places to dine. We were so excited when J Alexander’s opened and we always enjoy celebrating some of our special occasions with them. Happy Birthday to me this go around.
Loved everything except the shoe string fries. Not a fan of those. Would have preferred streak fries with my prime rib sandwich.
Good and service always outstanding! Continue to recommend this establishment as a great venue that does not disappoint!!
Superior food and wait staff service. Wonderful place to celebrate an anniversary
Terrible date. Got any other suggestions?
Another outstanding eating experience! All four meals ordered were excellent tasting. The prime rib sandwich is by far the best anywhere. The beef was rare and so tender. The burger was cooked perfectly. Two different salads were ordered and they were both large portions with outstanding salad dressing. The service was impeccable.
Service was very good. Food was good.
I come here often...one of my favorite Raleigh restaurants. Service during this last visit was unsatisfactory. I came for lunch, and restaurant was not crowded. Waiter was MIA. Ihad to flag down a waitress to box my food and get my check. I don't expect this at ANY restaurant, much less J. Alexanders. Tighten up, people!
