Food was not good - we left most of it on the table and the server didn’t even ask why.
Amazing food, which was served extremely quickly. Dream meal. I look forward to many happy returns!
Great cocktails, food and reasonably good service . Considering it was first dinner in SF since 3/2019 it was a good experience for us.
Everything was beautiful— from the friendly staff to the ambiance and table setting to the melt-in-your-mouth, delicious food. We had the scallop bites, chicken skewers, the Rainbow Rill, California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, the Lion King Roll, and both desserts. All were spectacular! Can’t wait to return with friends.
Overall the experience was good. Food was amazing albeit on the smaller portion side and pricy for what you get. Service was pretty slow. But ambiance was good.
Chef Andy + the food was fantastic. I’ve been trying to get my uni fix for SO long and am glad that I gave this place a go. Jeffrey made us such tasty and wonderful cocktails (we are not big drinkers). Will definitely be back!
Cool place. Excellent food. Top notch sashimi and fried small fish in particular. Busy but not packed on a Friday night. Service was great although food ordered did come out kind of slowly and a bit randomly.
Good food, nice staff, bad service.
The food is just okay, it's loud and almost as expensive as Sushi Hon. The attraction is to izakaya style food, but I'd rather go to Izakaya Sozai.
Good sushi and Nigri was very fresh.
Our friends birthday dinner.
Service was wonderful but the food was less than marginal. We are Japanese Americans and were disappointed with the authenticity of the food here.
Drinks were good.
Wagu beef was awful. We told them and they comped it. Which was a nice gesture.
Staff are fun.
Will never go back.
What a gem! So glad to have discovered this little gem in the neighborhood. Very fresh fish and a fun collection of cocktails that you must try. I was shocked how some of the ingredients would taste in the cocktails but somehow they pair wonderfully together. Bring some friends, order a bunch of small plates to share, and have a great time! At the time of my visit, Izakaya Hon's been opened for three months so you can still grab a table easily, but I could see it being packed once they do some more promotion.
To preface, we have dined at almost all of Min's Restaurant Groups' restaurants in the past few years, multiple times at Shio and Ondo & Sushi Hon. We absolutely love the consistency, top notch service & quality of their other restaurants, and ALWAYS recommend to friends & family visiting the city! Chef Jason told us about Izakaya Hon prior to the pandemic shutdown, and we were excited and very much looking forward to visiting their new restaurant this year!
The remodel looks fantastic and they really did a great job transforming the dining room to an intimate upscale vibe. The tables were spaced perfectly, and the vibe was clean and relaxed. The place was fairly large and there were plenty of seats available for our 7pm reservation, but it slowly filled up as the night went on. They do have tables that accommodate larger groups as well which is something to keep in mind when visiting the city with friends. Their sake and beer menu was extensive and priced reasonably. The fish was very fresh and presentation was what you can expect from a higher end izakaya. We wish there were more variety in the menu items as none of them particularly jumped out at us. But that was very minor.
However, with all that said, there are some improvements to be made. Out of all their restaurants, this one might have been their weakest in terms of service. Our server although friendly, was very low-energy, and could use some pointers on revising the casual tones. We were caught off guard with his "what's up bro attitude" when we were planning on spending close to $200+ that night. He also could use a better belt, as we caught a peek of his underoos a couple times during service. The other waitstaff were all very professional and pleasant. He took our order and dropped off a few plates and then pretty much disappeared until we asked him for the check. Thankfully the other staff were accommodating! This could just be opening blues, so we'll likely return in a few months!
Nice place with good food but difficult to have a conversation given the loud music.
Treated my 15 y/o sister to dinner, we were greeted very kindly, and the server was courteous and attentive all throughout our dinner. It wasn’t until my sister came back from the restroom with an uneasy and obviously distasteful face that things our thoughts shifted.
[Now, I don’t want to sound rude, but I didn’t catch his name.. I can only describe him: a short, bald man, wearing red/burgundy pants — who was working in the back — *had said inappropriate comments to her*.]
This was not okay, so I asked her to point out who it was that made her feel so uncomfortable — but we couldn’t spot him.
After she calmed down (not to mention, she did not want to be alone anywhere in the restaurant after the incident) we walked to the restroom to wash my hands, before eating as we always do, only to experience the same man walk out of the back room and say obscene things to me as I walked into the restroom.
I stopped, looked back, and with a serious tone told him to be more respectful of the restaurant’s patrons. I told him he should realize that with his words and actions, he had made both a minor and an adult feel absolutely uncomfortable.
I would highly suggest that this man is disciplined further in regards to how to better treat patrons of the restaurant. We could have left and taken our business elsewhere, but we decided we weren’t going to let a man like him ruin our night. I have to say — I doubt this was the first time he’s done or said anything like this to other women.
Thank you to the rest of the crew, chefs and all who were so kind, welcoming and respectful.
The sushi was excellent
Amazing experience like no other - real Japanese food like you find in the good markets of Japan
Great service, really high quality food. Appreciate the visit. Menu is quite upscale but wide so everyone can find something for themselves
the food was stupendous. the service was impeccable. will definitely be coming back!
Food was on point, and service was great. They have mock tails too!
We didn't have a good experience at this palce. Very poor food quality.
They are just stating and it was busy, but lack of attentiveness to service. Very good food and great presentation, but took long to place orders, lack awareness of need for drinks, brought one wrong dish and two missed dishes.
We made a last minute reservation here and were a little nervous since there weren’t many reviews, but the staff and food totally exceeded our expectations! Jeffrey (manager or owner?) was so kind, accommodating and helpful. The food was delicious! We had the Hokkaido Scallop bites and they were incredible! The Truffle Albacore Tuna Tataki was so flavorful and the Hamachi Kama was moist and yummy! The bartender was fun and personable and he made us awesome Negronis. We can’t wait to return!
Everything we had was incredible! Our server, Walter, was great as well. Will definitely be coming back for more!
Fantastic Izakaya. We loved the tempura cauliflower, chicken skewers, been skewers and pork belly. Nice atmosphere, wonderful service. Interesting whisky cocktails.
Met with some friends here and was amazed by the energy this place gave off - maybe it was the decor, but when you enter, you can tell this is going to be a great place to hangout. We had a chance to speak to the manager, Jeffery, and found out it was their soft opening. The food selection was great and can't wait to see the menu get better. There was a ton of craft drinks available. Great place to hangout with friends - so glad they opened up in our neighborhood. We'll be back for sure.
The raw fish dishes were my favorite, but everything was delicious. The cocktails were insanely good, especially the Old Fashioned and I loved their sake selection. I'll definitely be coming back!
Exception service, a modern interior, and really food make this a must visit if you're in the neighborhood.
The tuna tataki was a standout dish. All of our cocktails were delicious. I will be going back!
