Iza Whiskey & Eats
It has always been a dream of Yung’s to open a small place where the community could relax to an evening of delicious food and fun drinks.
Yungs believes in using fresh ingredients in a simple way so they bring out their own essence. In loving foods from all over the world, he has added a Japanese flare to a simple and healthy menu inspired by his love of eating.
Iza is shorthand for izakaya (居酒屋). The word izakaya first entered the English language in 1987. It is a compound word consisting of i (to stay) and sakaya (sake shop). Izakaya originated from sake shops that
Slightly overpriced and mediocre service but food and drinks were very solid
The ramen was perfect, the sake was good and the service was great.
First time here, will definitely be back. The sushi, pork buns, ba bim bap, and sweet and sour were all delicious. Their two most popular drinks were refreshing and tasty. The owner and manager really care about customer satisfaction and personally talk to each table. Highly recommend this restaurant
Our dinner, drinks and dessert were all fantastic! I highly recommend it. We are definitely going back!
Best steak I’ve ever had. Make sure to get their Wagu steak!!!
This is our go-to place for date night. We love the staff and vision of Yung. You could literally close your eyes and pick anything on the menu and enjoy it. Last time, we just said “surprise us” and were really impressed with the sushi platter that was brought out. It’s incredible that this restaurant opened up in the midst of COVID. Everyone should support these types of places — trying to bring back jobs and normal life.
Wow. What a great experience. We had reservations, but due to the UNC-Duke game it was pushed out. Their staff called me about four times to keep me updated on availability. Once we arrived we were happily greeted and had choices for tables. The food and the owner, Yung, are fabulous. The owner came by many times to check on our satisfaction and provided us food suggestions. He even made use custom sushi rolls, based on our liking. Stellar. Quite frankly, Iza’s food and attention to the customer, set them apart from other restaurants I have visited during this pandemic. When restaurants are struggling, this type of experience makes me want to come back often, and I most definitely will. Can’t wait until our next visit. We will definitely bring friends to share in the experience.
Both the food and the service were impeccable! The owner, Yung, stopped by and talked with my fiancé and I for awhile and shared why he opened the restaurant as well as gave amazing recommendations! Jacob our server was extremely polite, professional and enthusiastic about the menu! I had the whole snapper...OMG It was AMAZING! My girl had the filet & scallops- Delish! We had the dynamite shrimp & k.f.c. wings! The shrimp was my favorite! The wings could use a tad more seasonings but still good!
We all enjoyed our food and drinks. Can't wait to go back soon!
A gem in Chapel Hill/Carrboro . Nice and relax atmosphere and music, love the bar, delightful appetizers & drinks and outstanding service.
Iza Whiskey and Eats is a delicious Asian fusion restaurant that features top shelf whiskeys. I had the sweet and sour chicken with a Carolina roll and their flight of Japanese whiskey. Everything was delicious and the owner came to our table and thanked us for our patronage. I would recommend the visit even if you are just getting take out.
Fantastic food! We met the owner and they were very accommodating. Outdoor seating with heaters... great spot during Covid. We will be back!
Such a cool place with a great atmosphere. It was my first time there and they were so helpful in teaching me about the items on the menu and recommending what to order. The food and service was fabulous! I am definitely going back!
We loved this place so much, we made a second reservation before leaving
The food was amazing and the cocktails where out of this world.
The food lived up to the hype! So did the service. The food was excellent, satisfying, tasty. Will be back!
Everything we ordered exceeded our expectations. The service was great and the owner stopped by and talked to us. We enjoyed our evening.
It was a wonderful experience! The food was incredible!
Three of us ordered entrees, two arrived and after 40 minutes, the third entree had still not arrived! Waitress said they only had one sushi chef on duty, really? In a sushi restaurant...huh?
We canceled the order and left.
Most importantly though, was how non COVID compliant they were. They did not limit capacity, ( we were seated elbows length from the table next to and behind us. Also the had a loud drunken party of 12 moving throughout the restaurant with masks. Ugh!
Our drinks and the miso salmon was great. Owner is very involved and checked in with us frequently on our meal. Would go back for sure!
The service was outstanding. Staff did everything they could to take great care of us. The owner visited the table a number of times. Food is creative and high-quality. They were also very careful with regards to a few food allergies our table was dealing with.
We had a variety of food and everything was exceptional.
Awesome!! The wagu steak was amazing
Great selection to choose from as well as great prices. Dishes are thoughtfully prepared and plated. I ordered fried fish and it was perfectly fried. It wasn’t fishy or greasy. It was fresh, crispy, and flaky.
Love the concept of this place along with the quality of the food and the staff. Brilliant dishes packed full of flavor. Generous portions. Staff was quick, kind, on knowledgeable. The open sesame drink was declicious.
The ramen...wow it’s the best ramen I’ve had in the area. Definitely recommend.
Exciting new contemporary Asian predominately Japanese venue in downtown Carrboro. Creative cocktail menu. Ishiyakai BBQ for starters. Tonkotsu Ramen for entree. Highly recommended.
