Everything we ate was wonderful! We especially loved the “Memphis BBQ,” which was pork belly with foie gras. My wife had the duck and waffles, and I had the lamb. Both were excellent entrees.
The blue window tinting really sets the mood.
Wonderful service and great food!
Slow service at start but picked up.
Everything is cooked to order so be prepared for the wait. The food was good, atmosphere was nice and server was attentive. It feels like a secret location the way you have to enter it though.
Our waitress, Maggie, did and excellent job serving us from providing a wine decanter for the bottle of wine we brought to assisting us with the menu and suggestions. The live piano music was a nice touch and not to loud since we were fairly close relative to its location. I had the Salmon. It was cooked perfectly except some of the underlying skin was burnt is spots. I did not realize this until I had taken a bite. It is a great option for dinner prior to a show at the Orpheum.
Excellent food in a unique setting above Beale Street. Delicious fare and attentive wait staff.
The service and food were wonderful.
We love Itta Beena. Great atmosphere, service, and food!
BBQ Shrimp is awesome as was the Lobster Chowder.
Itta Bena has been a favorite of mine since it opened. It's a secret unmarked door and up the long fire escape. The second I walk in, I feel like I'm in another place. The food is always great, as is the service. The wait staff are not particularly knowledgeable about the wine list, but the bartender usually is. Any fish dish is delicious, the duck confit is amazing. And you should try the fried avocado with crabmeat! Oh, and they had mussels the other night as a special and they were fantastic. I can't say enough about this restaurant. It's very impressive to take out-of-towners there. They are usually surprised to experience a place like this in Memphis.
The menu was very limited and kind of odd. If you're a picky eater, don't go there. The she crab soup was watered down and the shrimp and grits were too salty. It's also very loud. A private event was held there with only a flimsy curtain in-between the regular guests and them and they were spilling out into the rest of the restaurant and being very loud.
Brought a client for dinner before a show at the Orpheum. Waitress was wonderfully kind and attentive without being overbearing. Every details of the meal was delicious. The appetizer, salads, entree, and drinks were superb. Our waitress balanced the time of a leisurely dinner with clients and the need to make the showtime perfectly. We will be back!
Itta Bena never disappoints and is always the most wonderful dining experience. This is by far one of my favorite restaurants in downtown. The service, atmosphere and especially the food is the best and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, anytime.
We dined at Itta Bena for our anniversary/first overnight away since having our first child. Sneaking through a second floor exit up the stairwell to the ambient, blues-y restaurant felt adventurous, like we were entering a speakeasy. Our server was enthusiastic and top-notch, our food so delicious, and our experience memorable. We’ll be back.
This place is a little gem. It’s so fun to surprise some of our guests who are from New England which gives them such a great feel for southern food. And of course the entrance is very dramatic! The She-crab soup is so good. If you are not sharing, the scallops and grits are my main course. Having the piano player and musician plying all during dinner is a real treat. perfect!
We visited here on April 7, 2018 for my husband's birthday. Our waiter was Stephan (?) and he was just wonderful! All of the wait staff were very attentive & aware of their customer's needs. The tables were cleaned off and set with clean cloths, etc. within 5 minutes of the customers leaving! Impressive! The food was fresh, tasted great and served hot. Everything was served quickly. We both had the 8 oz. Filet which was cooked to perfection and was so tender. The vegetables we chose were very good too. There was live piano music and singing which was very nice. Not too loud, not too soft. We love going to Itta Bena and highly recommend it to our friends.
Great place for good food, drink and Music downstairs on Beale street in Memphis.
The best resterant on Beale!
First time dining at Itta Bena and the rumors are true. Outstanding experience! Glad the entrance is hidden. The food was great and the service is world-class. Definitely recommending to others.
One of the best restaurants in Memphis. Easily the best on Beale. Would highly recommend getting dessert. The ambiance and service are fantastic
Unbelievable food, service and ambiance!!!
It has become more of a family restaurant and pears to be attracting more tourists. That may be a target market for the restaurant now. Historically, it appealed to a more adult market, with a quiet upscale ambience. On this occasion, our experience was characterized by upscale prices and more of an Appleby’s ambience.
Portions a little small but the food was excellent!
Food was excellent and the servers were extremely nice. I would just recommend expediting service a bit on drink service and food service. Overall excellent dinner!
The food was amazing! The wait staff was attentive and the ambience was awesome! Piano softly playing in the corner along with the view of Beale street is great!
Excellent food, piano music, wonderful service.
Great meal! Fried Avacado, Filet, Cajun Pasta, Cheesecake. All great. Service was even better - Danielle was a super server. Quiet, but was late on a Sunday night. Would expect slightly more noise on a Friday/Saturday.
The atmosphere and service outshined the food. The Cajun pasta dish was a little bland and the avocado appetizer’s crab filling resembled cat food.
However, the she crab soup was so divine it made up for all the other dishes.
We had a great time and the food is always good. Our reservations were at 930 pm, but our waiter was very inattentive. I will continue to go back always, but hopefully we won’t have bad service again.
We loved our meal. Atmosphere was great. Service was perfect!
I requested Stephan - he is wonderful., friendly and never fails to check on us. As always, the She Crab soup was delightfully rich along with some amazing mojitos. Next, we had the red snapper over crawfish etouffee and the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were delicious and portions were nicely sized. To end the meal, we shared peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was good but my favorite is still a toss up between the vanilla creme brûlée and the white chocolate bread pudding. The atmosphere was a bit more lively tonight but still able to carry on a conversation with no problem. We will be back soon. This is a great spot to before a show at the Orpheum, going to a ball game or just because.
Great food, table was ready and in a nice location. Server was very attentive.
A little difficult to find, but once we got there it was outstanding! Could not have asked for anything more to celebrate our anniversary
The food was great! Our waitress Danielle was amazing! The kitchen was a little behind, but Danielle made sure we were fine and even gave us drinks on the house. Danielle even went beyond her duties to give us a list of breweries to try since we were from out of town visiting. A++++++ service
Good food great atmosphere!
Perfect night out!
We really enjoyed Itta Bena. The dinner rolls were delicious. The pork with smoked Gouda grits was incredible. Our server, Stevin, was so accommodating and friendly. The peach cobbler was the perfect sweetness and also delicious.
Wow- finding this place is tough- but well worth it. Truly the best dining experience in Memphis. Get there early when the sun is still up in the sky to get the full experience of the blue haze light from the windows-
