My wife treated me to my birthday dinner and this was the place I choose. What was so cool about it was, we’ve been to Memphis before but never knew it was another restaurant above BB Kings. There is not a sign and you have to enter the restaurant from the back fire escape which is so cool. Inside the restaurant was beautiful, dimly lit with blue shaded windows which created a effect in the space. My wife and I shared the barbecue shrimp and the lamb chops both dishes were delicious. We finished with the apple cobbler which was soooo good. This is are new favorite restaurant in Memphis hands down.
If i could remember our waiter’s name, I’d give him a shout out. Good service. My husband and I started with the crab stuffed avocado. He said they did a better job on that appetizer last time he was there, but it was still tasty. Loved my blues berry martini. I had 2 :) I ordered the Mahi Mahi special. It was very good. My husband got the salmon and was equally as pleased. We still had room for a light dessert. I’m glad for the potion sizes. We were full, but didn’t waste food.
We had a reservation and were seated immediately by a window overlooking Beale Street. John, our server was very attentive and would interject humor. I had the cornmeal coated avocado stuffed with crab as my appetizer. It was my favorite dish of the night. I also had the special which was Mahi Mahi over sucatash. It was okay. The vegetables in it were a little crunchy for my taste, but other people might like it that way. The white chocolate bread pudding was excellent. We also enjoyed the ambiance of the decor. It's like a hideaway of the old days. We will certainly go back.
We were in town for the Bob Seger concert and decided on Itta Bena after a referral from a friend. Absolutely loved this place!! The food and service were both spectacular. I was impressed with the bourbon list and was excited to sip Blanton’s while eating a perfectly cooked steak. Also had some of the best She-Crab soup I’ve ever had. Dessert was something special. We got the white chocolate bread pudding and the apple cobbler with ice cream. My God. Can’t wait to come back! Highly recommended!
We always enjoy going to Itta Bena after the Orpheum performances. Martinis are excellent. We just wanted salads and appetizers. Very tasty. When we have had entrees, they were great, too! The atmosphere is always fun.
This is our new Memphis favorite. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food outstanding. We had BBQ shrimp starter and crab soup which were excellent. My wife had the shrimp and grits and I had a rib eye. For dessert we had bread pudding and an apple cobbler with ice cream. I don’t know how it could have been better. We can’t wait to go back.
Jeff, the server person, was knowledgeable, funny, knew just when to come back and just when to leave. He was amazing. The grits, comp’ed by the manager were nothing short of fabulous. My mahi fish dinner with succotash- brilliant! A definite reason to come back to Memphis! 10+
Live everything about this place
Food was AMAZING! Best meal I have had in a really long time. The chef knows how to put flavors together.
Went here for a 2 year anniversary. Great Atmosphere, Great Food, and Great service
Outstanding atmosphere and great food
Itta Bena continues to provide superior service along with delicious food. The wait staff are helpful without being intrusive. We will continue to dine here regularly.
We were having a date night and had never patronized Itta Bena before. We were welcomed as we entered, seated where we requested and the wait staff (Johnathan and the server) attended to us very graciously and expeditiously. The music was enjoyable and not to loud and the food was excellent. We have found another date night place to dine in Memphis.
Food was fabulous! We had the crab cakes, short ribs, shrimp & grits and creme brulee. It was all delicious but I think the short ribs were our favorite! Incredibly flavorful and tender. Overall, it was a fun experience for our night in Memphis!
Along with a great top shelf bourbon selection, the service, from the manager who suggested moving us to a street side table, to our server who was always available but never overbearing, was outstanding. We plan to make this a new tradition when attending Orpheum shows.
Who would have thought such a lovely fine dining restaurant would be found on the third floor, accessed by fire stairs. It is above BB King's bar on Beale St and a real surprise. The food was excellent and when ask if they have a reserve wine list the manager came over and discussed wine with us for quite a time. He offered an excellent 2012 Cabernet that was amazing. Our waitress and the manager went over and above to make our experience the best it could be. When a downpour started out of the blue and we were 4 blocks from our hotel, they found an umbrella and gave it to us. Great restaurant, with outstanding staff and management.
Was seated right away. But took over 10 min to have server come.
Food was outstanding. Atmosphere is great! Feels like speakeasy hideaway. Fun to do for special occasion.
Bar pours barely standard. Definitely not generous. But excellent wine and bourbon list
The food was outstanding, waiter was wonderful. All around great dining experience!
The food & atmosphere are very good.
We had a reservation at 8:30 for 6 people but instead came at 7:30 with 14 PEOPLE! 😳 They accommodated us immediately without a second thought and gave us all a glass of champagne while we waited. You don’t get that kind of service everywhere! High class-great food!
Outstanding food and ambiance. I found the service to be a bit rushed and somewhat mechanical
Great find once you accept the surroundings and noise from BB Kings on the lower floors. Best meal we have had since arriving 4 days ago.
Such a wonderful atmosphere and the food was excellent!
Everything was great! Martini, music, crab cakes, shrimp and grits. Loved it all - great view of Beale Street too!
We were seated in a special dining “nook” for 2 which was such a unique and romantic setting. Our waiter Mark and the manager Chris made us feel well taken care of. The BBQ shrimp appetizer was amazing and set the dinner off to a great start. The salad and entree were good, but not the level of culinary excellence I would expect for that price point. All in all, it was a fantastic experience but I would say the atmosphere and service were what stood out more than the food.
Good food and great service
The fried avocado and short rib entree were the big hits. Best and most reasonable wine list in Memphis! And Stephan made our Anniversary legendary with his impeccable service and charm.
My first time to Memphis and Itta Bena, we started with a drink and live music downstairs at BB Kings and went upstairs and enjoyed a wonderful meal with a crabcake appetizer, Braised ribs, shrimp and grits, with a wine for our dinner. Live music played and we were able to talk without raising our voices! We will be back!
I took my sister and brother in law for a special dinner.
Starting with the unmarked entrance and climb up the fire escape set the tone for a special evening! Once inside, it feels like a whole different world from busy Beale Street below. Food and service were both excellent and we enjoyed a nice relaxing dinner. We definitely recommend the experience!
Enjoyed the experience at Itta Bena. Unique atmosphere and service was exceptional. The crab stuffed avocado was amazing! Our entres were terrific, boneless short ribs melted in your mouth and the asparagus was perfectly cooked! Loved it!
Upstairs above BB Kings Blues club, an uncommon downtown restaurant compared to the typical casual BBQ joints in Memphis. The decor and ambiance are more upscale, although some patrons were down-dressed. The music vibrates through the floor, but the place is otherwise nice. Very good service and food, with several seafood and veggie choices.
We really enjoyed our dining experience at Itta Bena. The food was delicious and we liked the atmosphere. A very neat place for a date night!
Great food. Jon was a wonderful server that anticipated our every need. As it was my wife's birthday we were given a couple of glasses of champagne and a free dessert. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our evening together here.
Great night out, Mark was excellent in making sure we were well looked after. Would definitely recommend to others.
Grits, scallops steak, pasta and stuffed advocado - all great, as well as the Pinot Gris!
A wonderful evening, great location and staff. Will be back!!
Lovely. Excellent crab cakes and salads. Beautiful dining! Thank you.
Amazing place. Service and ambiance was great- perfect date night spot. Honestly the best salmon I have ever had!
Cousin’s 47th anniversary.
Fabulous as always!!!!
