Gracious service and delicious food. A lovely dining experience.
Good food but a little bit pricey. Paid $150 for 2 adults a d 1 child
Lovely small local restaurant. Good Turkish food, especially the Istanbul Blue platter for shared appetizers and the Lamb Shank main course. Our waitress, Emel, was great.
Having read several reviews on Open Table and other sites, I was excited about dining here. Our party of 3 had lunch here. This visit was a disappointment. The Doner Sandwich got a thumbs up; however, the Adana Sandwich gets a thumbs down (I've had better elsewhere). The Hummus got a mixed review. There was too much of hint of cumin in the hummus. The baklava on the other hand was absolutely delicious with syrup dripping onto our hands. Service was very slow even though there were only 2 tables occupied for lunch. Based on our lunch experience I reluctantly do not recommend this restaurant.
Amazing food, incredible service and great atmosphere!
Atmosphere was exquisite.....service, very personable, warm, efficient.....and the food — SPECTACULAR! Mouth-watering hummus, falafel, and salmon. Plus marvelous Turkish music to put the frosting on this cake.... 😋 😊
I recommend Istanbul Blue to anyone looking for a wondrously memorable dining experience.....Ataturk would approve!
My wife had the lamb chops, and they were overcooked, very thin and lacked flavor. She left most of them on her plate.
We enjoyed our dinner at Istanbul Blue. The appetizers were excellent and very filling. Chicken yogurt Entree has chicken which melts in the mouth. Their meats are delicious. Definitely will go back soon.
Delicious food and excellent service. The space is a bit tight in my opinion with tables being very close to each other.
Outstanding! Food was delicious and service was excellent. It’s been a while since I last dined at Istanbul Blue. Looking forward to going back. Highly recommend this place, especially if you’re looking for something different but delicious.
Superb Turkish Restaurant in Vienna VA with various quality delicious varieties.
Lentil soup is a must starter and all dishes are strongly recommended.
Diet to be forgotten on the visit day only ✅
Coming into the restaurant there was a weird gurgling noise in the entrance way. I think it was coming from the plumbing above, but not quite sure. The pictures on their website make the restaurant look much larger and fancier than what it actually is.
We were one of two tables seated and our reservation was for 6:30 p.m. We arrived a little early. It started to get busier closer to 7 p.m. and later. We asked for a nice table away from young children for a birthday dinner and we were seated near the kitchen. Of course, they can't guarantee the type of table you'll get and since there were only a few large tables in the restaurant we got what we got.
The wait staff was very friendly. I ordered a Cosmo. Strangely it was served in a snifter over ice. They had martini glasses, so I'm not quite sure why it was served this way.
We ordered the Istanbul Blue platter for an appetizer and it was quite good with a nice variety of items. Then each of us ordered a different entree -- lamb kabob for my husband, Iskender kabob for me and Doner Pide for my son. All of the entrees were quite good. For dessert I ordered the baked pudding, my husband had the baklava (which came in four pieces) and my son ordered ice cream.
Overall, the meal was very good and on that alone I will recommend this restaurant.
We really enjoy Isranbul Blue. We did, however feel rushed by our server. It was a date night away from home, and after appitizers, mains and coffee, we were out in about an hour. We had reservations and would have liked to linger a bit.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere!! Such a gem!
Absolutely delicious food. The service can be improved and the place needs a bit of touch up to match the quality of the food. but overall above average.
Excellent, quiet place tucked in a shopping center w/ample parking. Great selection of Mediterranean and Turkish food. You can’t go wrong with anything you select, including the desserts!
Excellent place for Turkish food and drink; great value. Brought back many good memories of our lengthy visit to Turkey several years back. Particularly enjoyed the raki and chai, served in authentic glassware.
Excellent service and good food. Chicken yogurt especially noteworthy
A pleasant surprise in a strip shopping center in Vienna. The food was quite good. We tried the Imam Bayildi appetizer (a first for both of us, I'm ashamed to say) and found it excellent. We shared two main courses and the waiter brought an additional two medium-sized plates for us to spoon parts of the mains onto. (Extra points for not having to be asked to do that.)
The only downside on the food front: no decaf coffee of any kind is offered.
A major plus (for my older ears): the noise level is such that you didn't have to raise your voice at all to be heard.
Istanbul Blue has a variety of food with some gluten-free options. Everything we ordered was good and served in quantity, except the stuffed grape leaves were a little disappointing. The menu said they would contain pine nuts and raisins but it was only rice.
The restaurant is very small and has only one bathroom which could be an issue depending on how long you want to spend there. Next door is an excellent cupcake bakery if you're looking for dessert.
We loved everything about it. Food, service, and ability to talk and be heard. We will definitely be back.
We loved our meal. The staff was lovely. I had my favorite- Iskendar Kabob and it was delicious.
We had everything, from appetizers to dessert. It was fabulous! Their food is so good. I've never had anything I didn't like. We started with the Istanbul Blue Platter, we cleaned the plate! Then we had the complimentary lentil soup which is a perfect blend of spices and great with the fresh bread. For entrees, we had Doner Pide, Hunkar Begendi, Kofte Kebob, and Lamb Shish Yogurt. Then we finished up with Kazandibi and Kunefe with Turkish Coffee for dessert. The service is fantastic and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back again!
This well established Turkish restaurant does a great job with familiar dishes. The unfamiliar and specials were excellent (Pistachio chicken and Hunkar Begendi). Our server was very professional.
Cozy ambiance, outstanding hospitality, and flavorful dishes. Quite a gem in the Town of Vienna. Order the kunefe for dessert!
My lamb dinner was good - tender and authentically flavorful. I chose a vegetable kabob to replace the rice, and expected more veggies, but what I received was tasty. My husband's donner-something was kind of dry. The Turkish wine we chose tasted sour (not citrus) and blah in comparison to the reds we normally drink, and we didn’t feel it was worth the $45. My husband had also ordered a cocktail before dinner, which the waitress seemed to forget. Eventually, when we'd almost finished our appetizers, she asked us “when” he wanted it. Too late! He told her to skip it, so that was disappointing. Our waitress and the chef were both friendly and pleasant, and we were able to sit for a long while after dinner and dessert without feeling rushed so that we could continue to enjoy our conversation. We had the Turkish coffee which is thick and good, and no, it did not keep us awake that night. I recommend trying the restaurant for something different. I’m going back soon with a friend for the lamb.
Chef you are great man. That kebob was the best ever. The waiter told me try and no regret. The staff know what they are doing and recommending very well. We just got there for an everyday dining. İstanbul Blue restaurant staff know what they are doing.
The staff was great, place was cozy, and the food was delicious. I will bring my family. Here is both for family and reunion.
The food was not as expectation and It was pretty expensive.
It was ok but nothing spectacular. Some food was very hot and seemed cooked to order, but other items were lukewarm and seemed reheated.
Very good food. Unfortunately, our entree was served within 2 minutes of our appetizer. This made the dining experience at this restaurant rushed and not as pleasant as it might have been.
Service was extremely slow, albeit the restaurant was not busy as we dined quite early. The server completely forgot about the soup I ordered and brought the wrong dessert for someone in our party. It took over two hours to have dinner and there were long waiting times for everything: taking the order, bread, appetizers, main meal, check, etc... In addition, a random server interrupted our meal to read a “mother’s day poem” and then proceeded to ramble incoherently about how the restaurant is a “mother” to many for the next five minutes. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they were out of lahmacun, which is one of our favorites.
Great food...but took an hour to get food...not prepared for Mother’s Day
This an old fashioned white table cloth restaurant is good for long dinners conversations. The food is very good with a full menu of Turkish dishes. Turkish cuisine is a variety of Mediterranean food but with just enough difference to make it interesting. The staff is very friendly.
Stopped in for dinner last week since we were in the area. Lots of really interesting options on the menu. We decided on 3 appetizers for our meal; the baba ganoush, cigara boregi and the sucuklu pide. All three were excellent. The server, on the other hand wasn't so good. She was friendly, but not attentive. Never came over to check on us until we were all done. Prices are not bad. Might stop by again, but not sure.
This meal was a disaster from the very beginning. The restaurant is small and is decorated with various Turkish style lighting and photos on the wall. Tables have linen tablecloths covered by paper tablecloths!
They offer cocktails - martini, Manhattan, Old Fashioned and a few other traditional cocktails. BUT they are made with whatever brand they carry there. (And it took awhile for a server to finally ask if we wanted a drink.) No choices on liquor brand or any upscale brands. So why bother??? Who really orders a "generic" martini? Might as well just offer beer and wine and be done with it!
1. Bread was "finally" served but with no butter or olive oil.
2. Appetizer platter was ok and a standard mix of traditional Turkish dishes - hummus, feta cheese, grape leaves, etc. But when it was served the waitress said our entrees were READY and would we like to wait until AFTER our appetizer before serving them!! Of course we said yes, but that meant the entrees SAT there for the entire time either getting cold or under a heat lamp.
3. The donor kebab is made of a mix of beef and lamb. Just HOW does that work? Is it a mix of both on a vertical spit or what? To my taste donor kebab is LAMB, pure and simple. (And we never DID see the vertical roasting spit if there is one.
4. So when the Iskander kebab arrived it was overdone, dry, and pretty tasteless with very little sauce under it. Neither my friend or I ate more than half of it.
This was the worst restaurant experience I have had in years. Someone had highly recommended it from a few months ago but I understand that there is a new owner now and that seems to have made a huge difference. A Turkish friend who had eaten there some time ago and enjoyed it and then more recently said that "yes, this not a good place at all now!
Too bad because it was a wonderful and very consistent Turkish restaurant with a great serving staff for many, many years before it closed and then was opened as Instanbul Blue.
Istanbul Blue is our favorite Turkish restaurant in the United States. We have family events there and take large groups of guests who want to learn more about Turkey, Turkish food, and Turkish hospitality. It is always a great experience.
Wonderful restaurant. Authentic and not cookie cutter. Relaxed atmosphere and great food.
Loved this restaurant and plan to return soon! It’s authentic, delicious food and has excellent service. A gem!
Great service and food except for the baklava
BaklAva was dry and tasted old and not fresh
Was extremely disappointed with thAt especially since
I have always enjoyed Istanbul blue and I go there all the time. But this time I was not too satisfied with the service. They didn’t serve the complimentary soup which they always did before. And the food served was a little cold.
