iSLAS Filipino BBQ & Bar
The Philippines is an island archipelago country in Southeast Asia consisting of 7,641 islands. There are multiple ethnicities and cultures found throughout the islands and the cuisine has been influenced by this diverse mix of cultures.
Filipino cooking has evolved over many centuries originating from Austronesian roots to a mix of Malays, Chinese, Spanish, American and indigenous influences. The cuisine centres on the combination of sweet, sour, and salty flavours mainly, however in the regions of Bicol, the Cordilleras and among Muslim Filipinos, spicy flavours form the base of most dishes.
Vinegar is a common ingredient. Adobo (vinegar-based meat dish) is popular not solely for its simplicity and ease of preparation, but also for its ability to be stored for days without spoiling and improving in taste after a day or two.
Very good food and friendly service
Pretty nice place to eat and eat Filipino food. The food was tasty and the portions were very generous.
Nice place spend time with friends!
Good food and good take on modern filipino food. Enjoyed the ambiance and the music. Service wasnt too bad but not as attentive.
Staff there is very friendly and attentive. The food was amazing! Definitely will gather more ppl to go and try the boodle feast.
Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing service! Can't wait to come back.
I'm Filipino so am really picky about Filipino restaurants. While there are many good ones, they are usually lacking something. Either they taste authentic but the quality is a bit too "home-cooked" so I sometimes wonder why I went out and paid for it in the first place. Or it's $$$-worthy quality but then is so fusion-y that it just makes me miss the real thing.
Islas gets it perfectly. It tastes like the best version of authentic Filipino food because, not only is the taste spot on, but the chef cooks the food with absolute quality care.
We ordered a bunch of stuff and the standouts are:
- Kare Kare Bagnet: Pork belly in peanut sauce and a side of bagoong (shrimp paste). The crisp of the pork was sooooo well done, and the texture was a nice contrast to the rich peanut sauce.
- Chicken Inasal: Wow! The skin was blackened sweetness, and the chicken was perfectly cooked so the inside was nice and tender. Plus the serving size was for 2 people (2 huge leg-thigh portions)
- Chicken Wings: Huge wings in lechon sauce. Need a say more? Wednesdays are wing night ($1/wing).
- Halo-Halo: Traditional Filipino dessert done right. A big scoop of ube (purple yam) icecream topped with a mound of bananas, coconut and jelly covered in milk and shaved ice. All the best parts of halo-halo without the distracting bells and whistles.
Also, in true Filipino fashion, there was unlimited rice and amazingly warm service throughout the meal. Highly recommend this place!
Absolutely amazing. This has been one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The food was outstanding, the drinks were great. The atmosphere, presentation, ambience... all fantastic.
Service was fast and friendly... food was delish!! Especially the pork!! Already told more friends about this place.
Delicious twist on Filipino food! The service is excellent and the ambiance is just right. We were a group of 6 and the staff made sure we were all enjoying. Thanks iSLAS!
This was our first visit to iSLAS and we will definitely be back. Everything was delicious. The tamarind soup was spectacular.
