Island Creek Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
The cold appetizer for four was great ... the oysters were fresh and served appropriately chilled. I thought the ceviche was great but the portion a bit small. Fried clams were flavorful and puffy ... not greasy in the least. The chowder was a little thin and very Smokey. That was the only real miss.
Been going since they opened, big fans. When there was a hiccup in serving our entrees, Chelsea, the manager, was extremely generous and personable. Frankly it turned a small mistake into a legitimate positive in the meal. Our server was great too. Wines are also fantastic.
I’ve been several times and it’s always been great- but this night it just wasn’t. Too start, they were out of three menu items and with a fairly small menu to start with, this really left minimal options. Second- my food was good- but not great, and our service was pretty bad. At the bar, the bar tender was unable to recommend a wine- and at our table our server couldn’t answer pretty basic questions about the menu and was generally inattentive. It wasn’t terrible... it just wasn’t even close to as good as every other time I’ve been there.
The lobster crepes were memorable! Such tender knuckles in a light cream sauce and the crepes were not slimey-they were perfectly fresh and melt-in- your mouth soft.
I'm dreaming of when I can go back again. Perfect cocktail of maple, lemon, bitters and rum (?) I had two that night and would reorder the exact same dinner with oyster apps. Great execution, friendly service, very professional service on Valentine's night. Exta busy but very well controlled. We were so pleased!
I brought my two teammates here for dinner on Valentine's Day. We had so much fun with cheeky menu they printed and loved everything we ate (the lobster crepes, scallops, and honey biscuit hit the spot after starting with a wonderful wine selection and oysters. Can't go wrong here.
The lobster roe linguine was savory and rich, with short ribs underneath that were incredibly tender. The service was fantastic, noticeably a team effort among well-trained (and well-selected) individuals. The background music is unobtrusive and leaves plenty of room for conversation. The restaurant is housed in the Hotel Commonwealth, whose bold, colorful decor is nothing short of inspired. Oh, and the raw oysters were sensational. How often does a dining experience hit all the marks?
Aside from the arrogant and impatient server who actually chastised us from the onset for asking questions about the oyster selection and seemed to take great offense at our request for the oyster shuckers’ recommendations rather than her own: “I work here five nights a week and know more about them than they do...” ,
it was a good meal. The “expert” server who works there “five nights a week “ neglected to put our salmon Crudo order in and then asked if we still wanted it as our dinners were about to come out should be a little more gracious and humble because we all make mistakes. Right? The evening was saved by the extremely pleasant and affable wine director who was very friendly and helpful in recommending a Half bottle of Gruner Veltliner to us. Lovely.
The oysters were perfect and my dining companions loved the Monkfish and Scallops.
I tried a special glass of Chinon poured out of magnum offered by the wine sommelier and it was really delicious.
Overall, the meal was very good. The food is great...but lose that attitude server!
Food was delicious although a little over priced. Everything was a la carte. Could have given a little more food for the money they charged. Clam chowder was delicious however a larger bowl would have been nicer considering it was expensive. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Service was good. Oysters were great and from many different areas.
We started off with a salad consisting of greens, beets pom seeds. Salad was ok, I little to much dressing. Since I'm kinda new to eating oysters, I asked the waiter to recommend 3 small bring varieties, the island creek where small and bring but the other 2 where larger, I said to him that's not we discussed he kinda offered to take them back but I told him no I will try them. They where ok, the island creek where the best ones. My wife got the grilled razor clams done in a nice garlic bacon butter sauce. She also got the monkfish for dinner with potatoes, mussels and leeks, very nice dish. I ordered the lobster row noodles, excellent dish!!
We love Island Creek. The oysters are incredible and fresh and the dishes are original and thoughtfully created. If you love fish, you'll love it here. The choices are unique (e.g. black sea bass). Excellent wine choices. Knowledgable, patient, professional wait staff.
The meal can get expensive but you feel like you're getting a memorable meal worth the price.
My girlfriend (23) was denied a drink because the bartender had never seen a Mississippi driver’s license and the manager rejected the ID. Even when backed up by credit cards and other forms of ID, regardless of lack of birthday on them, the only response was “Yeah we can’t take a scan ID anyways, too many fakes in Boston.” Wasn’t very happy with that kind of service. Island Creek isn’t a cheap restaurant, and you don’t see under 21 college students coming in to buy $14 drinks with a $40 each dinner. There was no alternative given and no measure taken to try to make up for that, so we didn’t even stay for dinner. They had instantly ruined the opportunity for a nice date we had planned on for our trip to Boston. Atlantic Fish Company, on the other hand, was much more professional and had a much better experience.
As always, amazing oyster selection, terrific fish and chips with old bay fries, superb service.. and unbelievably tasty Boston Creme donut holes with dark chocolate sauce. That’s why we keep coming back every month... always a great experience and sometimes we even try something new!
The quality of the lobster roe pasta has gone severely downhill. The pasta was rubbery, the short ribs were over cooked, and the dish has lost its overall richness. I’ve been to Island Creek four times over the last two years and every time the quality of the lobster roe has declined.
I mentioned in my reservation that it was our anniversary. The host, server and manager all wished us a happy anniversary. Happy Anniversary was also written in chocolate on our dessert plate. Great attention!!! We will definitely go back due to this, the nice service, and delicious food.
