Island Creek Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
Food: outstanding quality, always fresh, and well-made
Service: staff is super friendly and very professional
Ambience: casual romance
We considered to be the best restaurant in Boston. We love the fact that it's very hard to spend there more than $150 on a meal that includes includes main dishes, side dishes, drinks, dessert and tip. Perfect for anniversaries and special occasions.
As an out-of-towner, I am totally impressed with the massive selections of local oysters, mostly sourced from MA! The oysters are very fresh and it's always best to pair with wine. Me and my friend ordered a salad to split and the servers brought that in two plates, and that's what I call attention to details. The service is delightful and the food is wonderful.
I had dinner with my son. There was an extensive beer, wine and cocktail list. Everything we had was delicious. The waiter was well-versed on the oyster selection, and helped us novices with three different selections of oyster. Our fish dishes were very well prepared and seasoned. I will definitely go back if I have the chance.
We have been to Island Creek Oyster before and had very good meals and experiences. Our most recent meal was disappointing mainly because of the service. My wife and I ordered two different fish entrees and both came out raw in the center. This may have been borderline ok for the salmon but was not ok for the halibut. The waitress took the dishes back to the kitchen but when she brought it back noted that we did not like fish the way the chef likes to cook it. We eat out at least once a month and often will order fish and I'm not sure of any restaurant that typically sends out halibut where it is raw in the center. To rectify the situation the chef cooked our same pieces of fish a bit more and that was that. No other effort was made to appease us and we left feeling that it was our fault for not liking rare fish. Mind you we were never asked how we wanted fish cooked like at most restaurants.
Also, the food was good but it was not at the level of super tasty and creative like it has been in the past--especially given the price for the fish entrees which are on the high side for similar dishes in Boston.
There was a lunch listed online that was not available on Sunday brunch, also all the fish on the menu was fried and they ran out! We were serviced by almost 3 differnet people who were not all communicating and I had family from out of town who wanted good seafood. Will not recommend again.
We were in for lunch on Saturday, Nov 4, 2017. What an amazing dining experience. I have eaten plenty of times at ICOB before, but was so impressed with the service we received this weekend. When my sister told our waitress, Deidre, that it was my birthday, she pulled out all the stops for us and our mother. I have never felt so special at a restaurant before. She was attentive, funny and engaging. It is a meal I will remember for a long time!!
Have been here many times. Oysters are ridiculously fresh, cold, and delicious every single time, which is the reason we keep coming back. Even their bread and honey cayenne butter is delicious. But their other dishes are hit or miss. Tonight we had the Swordfish and Bouillabaisse which were delicious but pricey. Last time we had the Cod Croquettes which were not good- too much batter and soggy. Last time also had the Whole Black Bass which was a bit strange because it was a mix of western and asian flavors that just didn't go. Crudos are pretty basic. This place is always packed but we love coming for late night oysters as well. On weekends they do blast awful top 40's electronic music which ruins the ambiance for me, so I definitely prefer quieter weeknights.
Great experience. Everything we ordered was fresh and excellently prepared. The waitress was very friendly and took great care to find out answers to our questions us regarding food allergies. One of the better meals we’ve had in Boston. Only drawback was the bathroom was in the hotel lobby. Highly recommend this restaurant and we will be coming back!
First visit to Idland Creek. Everything about the experience was outstanding. Great oysters from the raw bar. My son had pasta made with lobster roe, which was outstanding. Even my salad was a memorable experience. Staff was attentive without being bothersome. I will definitely go back.
Our server,Brook was phenomenal!
She was very busy all night and at the very beginning she had Lindsay help her out. Lindsay picked out a dozen oysters for the two of us and we each had a signature martini.
When Brook came back she introduced herself and took care of us the rest of the night. She made some wonderful recommendations . After we split the house salad, plenty to split, I had the smoked razor clams (if memory serves the owner grows these clams) and salmon tartare with sweet potato and taro chips. Wonderful flavor and texture in the tartare. My husband heard the salmon was wonderful so he got the salmon with beluga lentils. Delish!
There was a chef recommendation on the menu, a cod and our server described that as well as the special swordfish. I wasn't that hungry though so opted for the tartare.
I love that although the restaurant was busy I could still hear my husband! I commented to Brook about how wonderful it was to hear music and have a conversation. She said the restaurant was thoughtful about noise/accoustics and appreciated my comment.
Absolutely loved this restaurant!! I would go back tomorrow and again and again !!?
Always a treat. Justifiable expense and incredible value in a world flooded with butterflied filet or overslathered salmon. ICO has exactly what we need when we're in town - and what a great surprise to find IC oysters at Kiawah! Keep up the great work, Skip - we'll be back every time we're in town.
