Island Creek Oyster Bar Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit to the ICOB and it was fantastic. We loved the oysters and to quote my husband,"It's almost not fair how good these taste!" We started with a sample of 4 kinds which the waiter helped us pick and the did a second round of our favorites. Our meals were great too. The oyster shell wall was fascinating and the ambiance perfect for a special night out. Wish we lived closer...we would certainly be regulars!
My wife and I were celebrating our 10th anniversary which I didn't inform the restaurant of because I don't care to make it seem like we need a special table or treatment. We sat at 9:45 right at arrival for our 10:00 reservation and the restaurant was still packed because it was a friday night. All in all, we very much enjoyed our dinning experience and the food except for feeling like we had upset our server by sitting in her section at that hour. We were abandoned for fairly long periods with the exception of support staff and our server failed to check even once on any of our courses. Unfortunately we didn't have the male server that finished our experience throughout our dinner. He was pleasant and sincere.
From the moment you walk in the door at Island Creek and are warmly welcomed by the terrific staff you are in for a treat. The decor is stunning with a nautical nod. The staff are superb and so so nice! The food and wine are excellent. Be sure to start with an assortment of oysters. We can't wait to go back....soon!
I THINK I WAS EXPECTING A LITTLE MORE FROM THIS RESTAURANT. THE SEAFOOD WAS PRETTY GOOD BUT MAYBE NOT
THE FRESHEST I HAVE HAD. MY DAUGHTER HAD THE OYSTERS WHICH SHE SAID WERE PRETTY GOOD AND THE FIG SALAD WHICH WAS VERY SMALL IN PORTION SIZE. I HAD A DOZEN LITTLE NECKS ON THE HALF SHELL BUT FELT SOME WERE NOT THE FRESHEST. ALSO HALF COLD LOBSTER WAS OKAY. SERVICE WAS GREAT AND RESTAURANT WAS
DONE IN A PLEASANT DECOR AND NOISE LEVEL WAS GOOD. WE WENT FOR A LATE LUNCH SO NOT SURE WHAT THE DINNERTIME OFFERINGS MIGHT BE.
ALL IN ALL A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.
Island Creek remains one of the best dining experiences in the city. The oysters are always terrific--fresh, enormously flavorful, with plenty of geographic variety. So many restaurants today have an assaultive level of noise; at Island Creek, you can have a conversation in a normal voice, and four people around a table can all hear one another at the same time. The service is attentive without being fussy. One of the all-around champs.
While vacationing in Boston, we decided to try the Island Creek Oyster Bar based on customer reviews. It was the best meal we had during our trip. Everyone loved their meals: my husband had the oysters and seafood casserole; I had the steamed clams and blue fish; and my two sons had the fish and chips (and clam chowder). The desserts were all equally as delicious and the service superb. I wish we lived closer!
I have dined at Oyster Creek twice and really do love the food. The fish is so fresh and preparations are exciting, eye and palate pleasing...with one huge exception. On both occasions the food was WAY too salty! I mean over the top salty! Don't get me wrong, salt is a good thing, I love salt and it is a key ingredient in great cooking. But, enough already! Please pass (on) the salt! That being said, I will go back. They really have a great thing going and I will just mention to back off on the salt. I will also say that the wait service was a little confusing. There were so many people coming, going, delivering, that it was really confusing as to who was in charge of our table. Also, quite a delay in getting service once we were seated.
ICOB never fails to meet the mark! The ambiance is light and airy and very relaxed. The bar offers a wonderful choice of cocktails, nothing run of the mill unless "of course" this is what you want. The oysters are amazing as are any of the choices we have made on our many visits here. The service is relaxed yet attentive. Brunch, Lunch or Dinner you can't go wrong.
For starters, we got 12 oysters, sharing the Duxbury and Freepoint, Maine ones. I would stick with the latter in the future because frankly, they're meatier. Very, very fresh though. We shared a dish called Lobster Roe Noodles (short rib, lobster, mushrooms) which I wanted to love but just liked. Good I thought, but not outstanding. Plus the portion, even if only for one, seemed small. We also shared a small fried clam and I wish we had gotten the larger because they were great. We also had a couple of Belgian beers (again, small glass) which were great. Then a Chocolate Truffle Tort which was good. Total damage about $160 and you can decide for yourself if that's worth it. (We also paid $16 for valet parking). We'd definitely go back.
Our first visit to Island Creek Oyster Bar was phenomenal and in no small part due to the friendly, knowledgable service by our waiter Mikey. He ushered us through the finer points of each dish, making excellent recommendations and taking care of our every need before we even knew we needed it! Every dish was delectable - from the Island Creek Oysters (there is no more delicious oyster anywhere) to the unbelievable fried clams. A culinary experience in every bite! And when we come back, we will definitely asked to be seated in Mikey's section. Servers like him are a rare find.
I've been to Island Creek Oyster Bar many times, twice in the last week. I had the lobster roll recently. It was excellent. My husband loves the infused vodka. The service was excellent. All the staff is courteous and knowledgeable, the hostess, server, and support. Unfortunately I do not have a knack for names, so I could praise them specifically. I love the Island Creek Oyster Bar experience.
Something went awry with our orders and service ended up being excruciatingly slow. All the food was outstanding once it got to the table, but we were compensated by the chef taking off our entrees from the bill. We got an impromptu wine-tasting as well. So overall it was an wonderful evening and our waitperson Jo kept her cool beautifully. The oysters were other-worldly exquisite.
After navigating the difficult to read menu the food arrived quickly and was fresh well presented and delicious
Our waitress was very friendly and charming.
All in all a very positive experience which I very much look forward to again.
One slight issue is the crowd loitering by the front door waiting to get a table makes its an uncomfortable and awkward exit after the meal
We love Island Creek! The food is always great, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable but never in your face. The hostesses are always warm and welcoming. In fact, almost everything is just right. Almost...because we do have one complaint. The bar does not stock any of our favorite top shelf drinks including many vodkas, Belvedere, Chopin, etc and scotch. It does seem a bit silly not to have customer favorites. Each time, we have to go through what Island Creek does have, because they don't have anything we would choose to order first. Really, would it be so difficult to have commonly enjoyed top shelf drinks?
Island Creek Oyster Bar is consistently delicious! The service is outstanding! The oysters selection is second to none! We love the Island Creeks, the Chathams, and the Moonsholes! There are always many varieties to choose from. The lobster and short rib pasta is amazing!
The clam chowder was okay, but much better can be found in Boston. The best part of the soup was the biscuit that was served submerged in the soup. The lobster roll and fish and chips were also okay, but though they are simple dishes, neither really stood out. The dessert, though, was another story. The house-made Blueberry Sorbet was amazing! The server told us what the flavor of the day was, so perhaps calling ahead to learn the flavor, and eating the main meal elsewhere will be my plan in the future.
The bad: make a reservation more than a week in advance.
The good: everything else. The space is rather cavernous so I was worried about the noise. It turned out to not be much of a problem and it was easy to carry on a conversation, even in the bar area. The initial impression is that it's kind of a scene and could be snooty, but the staff was quite friendly. The oysters were outstanding and worth every penny. The cocktails were nice but a little on the timid side in terms of flavor. Service was excellent--our server gave us great recommendations and we were never kept waiting very long. Food came out soon after ordering. We made a meal out of appetizers and the kitchen split them up for us without our asking. Solid A place.
Wait staff service was okay. Other than taking your orders, delivering the food you ordered to you, and if you need anything (you have to flag them), they don't really check on you. Tasted all 11 different types of oysters, 9 were great but 2 were not to my liking. Food portion is on the small side, not enough for sharing.
Had a family dinner with a party of 6. We had planned this in advance because reservations are hard to come by last minute. The food was incredible; two of our party had a selection of raw oysters, i had the mussels, my husband had cerviche to start. The oysters have their own daily menu and are accompanied by a list so you know what you are eating. The wine list is very extensive. The entrees of boulliabaisse, salmon, fish tacos were amazing. definately go for a special occasion. The noise level is tolerable for such a large spot and it's possible to have conversation which was a delight. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful.
A really fun place with good food, great atmosphere, excellent service and an interesting menu. I really appreciated the complimentary sparkling water. The only. negative was thst I thought the oysters were overpriced. The rest of the menu offered fait and good value.
I made reservations for my birthday (a Tuesday night), and even though I was booking about 2 months in advance, I couldn't get the reservation time that I wanted. However, the host was nice enough to seat the rest of my party even though I arrived a half an hour late (most places refuse to seat you until the entire party is there). I had mentioned that it was my birthday when making the reservation and I was really surprised to find that they printed custom menus for the table with a birthday greeting! The meal was delicious. The staff was all very friendly and very knowledgeable about the oysters we ordered. I got the oyster sliders, which fun and tasty. I'll definitely go back!
I took my boyfriend here for his 32nd birthday. He had never been to Boston and this was our first dinner out when we got into town. The staff was extremely accomodating and friendly. At the end of the evening they brought us cake and made sure we had everything we needed. We did all raw (oysters, lobster, clams, shrimp cocktail), it was all extremely fresh and beautifully presented. Speciality drinks here are great as well. Although it's a bit spendy it was definitely worth it.
Everything was great and service could be better.
When the bus boy took away used plates and silverware after first round of oysters and appetizers, I thought that was good. New plates were never brought back, even after 2nd round of oysters arrived table 30 minutes later. We waited for five minutes for the waiter to come and asked him for. He brought some of them and a guest of us still did not have hers. When the entries came, we enjoyed our dishes for five minutes just watching them because no clean silverware. We have to wait for waiter to come and ask again.
