Island Creek Oyster Bar - Boston
Looking for another reservation? Visit one of our sister restaurants: Island Creek Oyster Bar (Burlington), Row 34 (Boston & Portsmouth), Eastern Standard, Branch Line, and our cocktail bar, The Hawthorne.
Everyone was extremely nice, between the hostess and the waiter. The food was great, especially the steamed little necks. Definitely a go-to for fresh seafood!
Island Creek is one of my go-to local places to go for a special occasion. On top of their already excellent food and service, they always add very thoughtful touches—and send out a few freebies. The oysters can’t be beat, the cocktails are creative and delicious, and they make splitting dishes super easy.
Great food with friendly servers. Took a little too long to get food and drinks to the table. Louder than I expected.
Great Food, great oysters
As good as everyone says it is!
The ambiance is low key, casual, and very friendly. The selection of oysters is amazing: you can choose from east coast or west coast-but I would go with the east coast, especially the ones from their own oyster beds.
A standout dish was the salmon ceviche, in a subtle lime water marinade. The mussels were delicious as well, plump and juicy, and served with the obligatory French fries. The only down note was the seafood stew, which had none of the richness of a good boullabaisse.
Best oyster bar in Boston.
Superb fried clams.
But why can't they put together a lobster role? It's attached to a hotel where we stayed. Most people who stay in Boston hotels like this sort of thing. Although we lived in Boston for many years we crave lobster rolls when visiting New England. I love the menu but I think ONLY offering a cold lobster tail is rather elitist.
Dependable availability of a variety of oysters, well cared for and presented - $3/3+ each. Very manageable menu: handful of appetizers, 5 or 6 versions fish dinners, more interesting presentations than usual (can you say, "Legal"?) and a specialty fish - very tasty and clever monkfish this visit - all in the $30/30+ range. There are non-fish mains, but I can't remember what any of them were. Nice range of desserts. For a fish restaurant the choices of wine by the glass might be a little skimpy - 11, I think - but all of the appropriate fish accompaniments - muscadet, albarino, etc. I think wines by the glass are often pretty ridiculously overpriced but these were in the range of similar restaurants - $12-15. Full wine list looked more interesting but we were a moderate drinking party.
Service was slow on a Monday. Oysters arrived in reasonable time, mains a but delayed, wine refill required a little snagging the waiter as she went by.
Good seafood restaurants are expensive. This one is in the ballpark of "Legal". It is good value if you like seafood and don't want to or are afraid to cook it yourself. The preparation and presentation of all of our orders was excellent.
The bar is cacophonous so a great place to eat with your dullest friend. The restaurant is noisy but manageable but not with someone with poor hearing that you care about.
Unbelievable oysters and ceviche. Free and light and beautifully prepared.
Outstanding food, beverages and staff!! I have eaten at the restaurant once a month for the last year and it has been consistently outstanding.
We had a wonderful time; the service was extremely hospitable. The food was delicious and we enjoyed the oysters!
Thank you so much for bringing a special brownie with a candle for my birthday. You made our dinner unforgettable.
Our server was absolutely horrible.
The fish soup was best ever with just the right touch of spicy
My wife and I 18 oysters—12 Island Creek and sampled Aunt Dotty, Row 34 and Mookie blue. Our server was fantastic and wish I could find the receipt with her name, but her partner was Jen. We had the oyster sliders,a salad, and the monkfish which was exceptional.
Good experience overall...
Hostess was able to seat us an hour earlier once we got there, which was great because we were already tired and couldn’t book an earlier time. Service was great; ambience was great - not too loud that we couldn’t have a conversation but loud enough to feel the energy. The oysters and drinks (dirty vodka and gin martinis) were delicious. The clam chowder was good but it wasn’t the best I’ve had in the city. The lobster roe noodles were admittedly not as good as it was hyped up to be - between the braised beef, mushroom and the reduced sauce on the dish, I was about to get instant diabetes from the sodium overload. I could not finish it. All in all, night would have been just fine with drinks and the raw bar!
Great food, great service, just great, great, great! A place we always go to while we are in the area.
Hostest was rude. First server was also unfriendly and made us feel rushed (assumed he was just busy though) later another server came to help us and she was very nice. Food was great!
Great lunch before the ball game. The ONLY complaint was the wine list...too pricey.
Wonderful food. We were there early before the lunch rush so it was relatively quiet. Server was very attentive.
This is the best lobster roll in Boston. The service is wonderful. The ambience is modern and refreshing. I could not have had a better lunch!
Great service! Awesome meal.
Oysters were wonderful. Beer and wine selection good. other than the oysters the food was mediocre.
This restaurant is too loud and prices too high for the size and quality of the food.
Brooke was a fantastic waitress. Staff is why we come back over and over again.
Every course was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious! Our server was helpful, attentive, but not disruptive. Noise levels are moderate, you can actually have a conversation at dinner! the prices are up there but the food is worth it.
Fresh oysters and great service. Very much enjoyed the vibe. Loved being able to reserve ahead of timez
The oysters here are the best you can get in Boston (and I've tried many places, including Row 34, B&G, etc.). And, my god, the Lobster Roe Noodles.... heavenly and divine are a couple of words that come into mind.
The bartender was remarkably rude and the food while decent it’s not up to the usual standards. The fish was slightly overcooked and dry. Chalk it up to a substandard experience. I’ll be back fingers crossed
Cool ambiance and our waitress was very nice and attentive. Calamari appetizer was delicious.
Service and food both excellent. Enjoyed our experience. 2nd time to visit and will definitely go back.
Oysters are a must. Good and wine selection is good.
Great food and great drinks
Fabulous dinner. Waitress was very attentive. We would definitely go back.
I would definitely recommend Island Creek Oyster Bar. I'd been there a couple of times before both times for brunch. This was my first time going for dinner and I was accompanied by 3 others in my group for a new job celebration. The new job person specifically wanted oysters on the half shell and this was his pick. None of the rest of us like oysters that way, but the rest of the menu was so yummy it was not a problem.
I got the smoked bluefish cake for us to share. I was thinking along the lines of smoked bluefish pate' but this was very much like a crabcake except made with bluefish. We all dived in and swooned about the deliciousness of it all. and that continued through all of our entrees scallop plate for two of us, FRIED oyster basket for me (Yum, Yum, Yummiest!) and mussels and more for the other person. Not much conversation as we delighted in our choices. And even though we were kind of full, we pushed on to dessert--all perfect endings to the meal. The wine list is interesting and varied and I enjoyed my Gruner Veltliner--the first sparkling one I'd tasted. The rest of my group was also happy with their various choices of wine and beer. We all agreed that we'd had some recent experiences dining out that left us disappointed. This was NOT one of them. If you are going to pay for fine dining, best to have a memorable fine dining experience. We did.
Out of all the restaurants I visited on my vacation to Boston, this one had the best service by far. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The food was exactly what we were looking for, too.
Great place except for a deafening thump-thump music track that forces everyone to yell. Why is this necessary? The food was great, with a fine beer/wine selection.
Not enough service staff. The waitress was great but clearly over worked. Had to stop her multiple times. Lobster roll was not great and my scallops were not cooked through
Very good. Modern twist to Boston food. Our waiter was excellent. Made us feel special for our Anniversary and knew his stuff about oysters.
Took my brother and family there and had a great experience. Food and service were great. Would go again!
Love this restaurant. Very hard to get reservations but worth it. A bit loud but we head there every time we are in Boston
