Isabel Pearl Ratings and Reviews
Open Table's reservations indicated that there were no tables available between 9 A.M. and 2 P.M. so we reserved a 2 P.M. table only to discover upon arrival that there had been plenty of tables available all day. They also had no record of our reservation but that was not a problem.
The food was outstanding as always but the Open Table reservation system failed this time. Oh well.
We went to Isabel on a Saturday evening to celebrate my husband's birthday. Unfortunately, I don't understand why it has such high reviews. The food overall was fine, but unremarkable. The carnitas plantains were so bland as to be almost tasteless - the salsa and creme fresh was necessary to give it any hint of flavor. The grilled salmon was decent, if a bit overly sweet; the green beans that accompanied it were also fine, but the coconut rice was a sad half-bowl helping of somewhat stale and cold rice. The Buddha Bowl with tofu was also just okay - beans and rice somewhat bland (and, again, required salsa), but the tofu itself was actually nicely flavored and grilled to crisp (rather than deep-fried, which I appreciated). Both the salmon and bowl were nearly saved by the mango salsa, but too many of the mango pieces were under-ripe to make it truly satisfying. We both had house margaritas, which were also fine. The service was friendly, and the space itself pleasant enough. It wasn't terrible, but I probably wouldn't go back.
This was our first visit. I selected them because it was close to the theatre that we planned on attending later that night. (12/16/17) I set my expectations low...and got blown away. Great food and service. The guys had the seafood special (mussels and scallops) and the girls had wraps with generous portions of beef and chicken to put inside.
Thanks for a great meal!
I was surprised at how tasty and interesting the food here was. This is more Latin-American fusion than Asian as I saw a description. The selection is wide, and healthy choices are available. The quality goes beyond expectations, since the decor is minimal casual and tables are not well arranged. Staff was nice and helpful if not exactly efficient. This was a very pleasant experience. I certainly recommend Isabel Pearl.
The food was fantastic. The cocktails not so much. Our meals were creative, visually attractive and absolutely delicious. My cocktail tasted liked rubbing alcohol and my husband's was just okay. We would definitely return but instead of a cocktail I'd opt for wine.
Although we made a reservation, they were able to accommodate us earlier than the time we booked. The waiter was very helpful explaining the menu and answering our questions. The place wasn't busy and our food was ready super fast. The only negative thing is that my Mexican mocha was not very hot, and I like to drink it slowly so it was cold in the end. Overall, the food was filling, tasty and plenty, with lots of gluten-free options!
I received such great feedback from my colleagues whom I set a business meeting dinner for at your location. My boss thanked me for choosing a "Fantastic choice!" restaurant with great food and service. Because of our work schedules and for some the commute we needed a reservation after 7pm. Isabel Pearl was so accommodating and their online reservation site was incredibly user friendly and offered many reminders for us. The restaurant closes at 9pm and my team was allowed to stay until 9:30pm to complete their meeting and meal. MANY THANKS!
I haven't been to this place in a long time and was disappointed that its not as good as I remembered. Overall this place needs a major refresh. the food was ok, not great. There are so many great places in portland this one needs an identity and much better food.
I thought I would be getting authentic Spanish food. It was far from it. I do understand the appeal of food fusion nowadays but this was definitely not trendy or satisfying. There was a weird Asian-Latino combo that didn't sit well. A poke bowl for $22 is definitely not worth it. The Brazil Bowl was alright. It was bad. It wasn't great. Serving Latino food with chopsticks does not make it a trendy fusion. I took my mother and Spanish grandmother here for Mother's Day. They were not impressed.
Overall the place wasn't bad. It just wasn't my fit. I walked in with the incorrect assumption I'd be served Spanish food. If you are looking to eat modern Spanish food with chopsticks. This is your place.
My family went out to Isabel Pearl for Mothers' Day dinner and very much enjoyed it. The service was great, the food very tasty (though portions could have been bigger for the price), and the aura welcoming and creative. Healthy food, lots of options (and substitutions can be made), and a nice, easy experience overall.
