where sunlight streams through the windows even on the cloudiest of days. Isabel Pearl's comfortable ambiance is a popular spot for breakfast meetings, lunch breaks, and romantic dinners; all the while providing nourishment with bold, healthy, flavorful meals. Isabel Cruz serves up food for the body and soul.
Literally NO ambiance- wow does it need a decorator.
We were sad to find out after we got there that their liquor license lapsed.
Great service, beautiful food in great atmosphere!
Excellent food, great service. Will be back!
Restaurant not serving alcohol... not bust at all. A dying restaurant.
My impression of the restaurant is that it is ok but my biggest complaint is the bathroom. I used the bathroom on the right. It was very dirty with lots of supplies being stored. The sink had hair in it and was dirty. The floor was not clean either. I didn't go into the bathroom on the left but if that one was clean I would have gone in that one. When supplies are being stored in the bathroom used by customers, the ambience is truly ruined.
Sign saying "no alcohol" on their front door when the dinner was planned ahead of time was disappointing. Food was good but they were out of their fish special as well. Recommend calling ahead of time to be aware of such surprises.
I had not been in years, but had always had exceptional food. My food was not hot when it arrived & the “rainbow of vegetables” was shredded carrots & a small amount of diced bell pepper. Really weak!! I expected more for the price. Seems like the quality of the place has gone downhill. This was reflected in the place being mostly empty on a Friday night. They also were without their liquor license due to forgetting to renew it according to our server.
Food was not as good as in the past. Also, they were not serving any liquor. Something about their liquor license was being renewed??
Disappointed there was no alcohol being served. I was looking forward to my favorite margarita there.
Great setting, super quiet early in the morning. Food and staff were amazing as they always are.
Food was good but nothing exceptional. I got a call from the restaurant at 5pm that day to let me know that they would not be able to serve any alcohol that night and as a result did I still want to come that night. We were a party of 7, Saturday night in Portland, the likelihood that we could find another place on that short notice was zero so yes we still attended. On a positive note it made for a less expensive meal!
We went for dinner. Very nice service and fresh food choices. Definitely want to go back for breakfast/lunch too.
A friend and I had the strangest experience at Isabel last night (2-13-19). Sometimes this place looks busy, so we made a reservation for 5:30pm. Not necessary. The place was empty. The first thing our server (the only server) mentioned was that there is a problem with their liquor license and therefore they could not serve us alcohol. Not a problem for us, although we had expected to order food from the happy hour menu. No alcohol = no happy hour menu.
I mentioned I had been thinking of getting Trio Tacos, an item currently on the website happy hour menu and was told that Trio Tacos have not been on the happy hour menu for 3-4 months.
There are other good things on the menu, so we stayed anyway.
There are three ahi dishes on the menu, two of which we were interested in. "We don't have that Ahi tonight; it wasn't delivered today". Then I asked about the 'fish of the day'. "No fish today".
We finally decided to try the one Ahi dish that was available, the Ahi Bowl, and the entree sized lettuce wraps. The Ahi Bowl was good, not great, and expensive at $22. The lettuce wraps ok, but not so fresh and the peanut sauce almost flavorless.
By the time we left at 7pm, there was one other table of two, and no-one else in the place.
I'm not sure what is going on here but Isabel does not seem to be a going concern and I won't be going back. Too bad, as it is a great location and used to be better. Why and how is the place still open?
I've loved this place for years - some of the freshest tastes with an emphasis on vegetarian. I had the best tasting tofu dish I've ever tasted! Meat and fish dishes are available too, and a nice wine list.
Having dinner on Superbowl night was great, pretty much had the dining room to our selves. Too bad no liquor license until next week...would have loved to have a toast for my 60th birthday. Food is great and fresh with lots of flavor
Food just average. My spouse had chicken that was so tough and over cooked that he could not eat.
Service was bad
We had to seat ourselves and get our own menus. Was sad that our experience was not as good as our first time. Probably will not go back.
Service was slow. The door that did not close was very unpleasant & made it cold in the restaurant.
Despite reserving a table on a Saturday night, we arrived to find a "seat yourself sign" and after a very extended wait time, the server, who was not very polite, reported that there was only one server on staff and that "it's going to be a while." We also noticed that there only appeared to be one cook in the kitchen. Despite the menu sounding intriguing, we never got the opportunity to sample the food as, after another 20 minutes of waiting to have our order received, we decided to look elsewhere. This restaurant sounded very promising however we were very disappointed that it was not appropriately staffed for a Saturday night. Not sure if they were having an off night or if this is typical, but would not recommend this place until they get their act together.
They had an electrical problem so the overhead lights were not operating. It was so dim, it was difficult to read the menu. We asked for candles or something but the response was that they didn't have anything. The food was only fair, healthy but pretty boring. Tough overcooked chicken in the Bowl menu item. They need to bet back on track, it used to be a pleasant, delicious, healthy place to eat close to the Gerding Theater. Not so much anymore.
Nice quiet place with excellent food and service just not a Lotta ambience looks more like a diner
Bored waitress. Food so-so. Could be much better with proper supervision.
I ordered the Brazil Bowl but it has nothing to do with Brazilian food. Also, the flavour was not good enough for the price.
Going Out to eat can be so risky-- Isabel Pearl was a safe, delicious option and my new favorite when visiting Portland. Real food, intelligent waiter, great prices made the meal a triple-win.
Although I found it a little chilly, the wait-people were warm and friendly. The food was attractive and delicious and there was certainly plenty to eat. I'll be back.
Food was very tasty but lukewarm. Good value.
Some brighter building signage would have been helpful.
The server was great eccept we were freezing and asked 3 times that he close the larger window and 3 times he said he would but never did.
Love that you cater to vegans! I’ve had the Brazil bowl twice now and I love the coconut rice! What’s make this bowl even better in my onion is something green in it :) cheers!
My wife and I had a fine meal in a pleasant setting and with excellent service. Well worth an out-of-town visit for its "fusion" cuisine.
This was my first time at Isabel and won't be my last. Everything was fantastic. We were promptly greeted and seated. The food was fresh and delicious. The music was a great match for the ambiance and friendly service.
Our waiter was inattentive - tried to make excuses - said he couldn't order our drinks and our food at the same time? He ordered the wrong food from the kitchen. He never checked on us to see if our food was good or correct. The water pourer person was far more attentive and fixed our problem. When we indicated we were ready for the check - he literally made fun of us. WORST SERVICE I've ever had in Portland. We will NOT return, ever.
My wife and I have been to Isabel Pearl a number of times, and we have really enjoyed going. This last time, however, was very disappointing. The service was slow. We didn't place our order for almost 25 minutes after getting there despite being ready. The soup that I ordered as an appetizer came out with my main course, which did not get to our table until nearly an hour after we sat down. Given that we had a showtime to make this made eating very rushed. The scallops special said "pan seared" but was actually breaded. All-in-all a disappointment. We will give it another try because of all of our previous positive experiences, but I hope this wasn't the beginning of a trend.
Very nice service staff. Terrific for dinner before a play at Portland Center Stage.
Great service and tasty healthy food ,had both lunch and a dinner there , menus a bit different fresh ingredients well prepared
Food good, service passable, VERY VERY noisey. Can't hear to talk.
Nice place to eat and catch up with family & friends
The food was good. The pancakes a bit dry. They were very accommodating for a large group and we were able to get in quickly.
Great service - wonderfully attentive. Fun space....
I met a friend here for her birthday, we like the King Cakes and also split the salmon scramble special. The potatoes/kale were delish and cooked just right. The waitress was prompt and friendly, even let us use a lighter to light the candle on the cupcake. We sat outside in the shade! Very nice!
Noisy inside Set outside Outdoor tables were not sturdy and wobbly Need replacement Dinner food and service very good
We waited 30 minutes and were never waited on. They were very understaffed. We finally had to leave because we were hungry and it didn’t look like they were going to come to our table any time soon.
