Had to wait +30 minutes for our reserved table, took another +40 minutes till our 1st course, each person's course arrived staggered and were almost forgotten. It took two and a half hours to get to my main after a simple soup, salad, and appetizer.
We typically love this place, but maybe avoid on special occasions.
Been to Isa a few times and the service was lacking. My friends and I spent a total of 3 hours here waiting for our food to come out. The food and service are usually beyond excellent but tonight was sub par. Food was undercooked - raw that we had to send back. We waited an hour for soup to arrive. I was on my 4th course while friends were still waiting on salads. There was def something missing tonight and I don’t think it was Bc of Valentine’s Day. I’ve def had excellent service here even on holidays.
Service was very spotty. It felt like we were forgotten. 30-40 minutes would pass between courses with not check in’s from the waiters. The table next to us had six people, arrived after us, ate the 5 course prefixed menu, paid and left before we even got dessert.
Manager had to come and apologize after they forgot our appetizers (served after our main course) and had to wait nearly an hour for our desserts to come out. Nothing was comped for us on our final bill though.
Food was all very good.
Good as usual, a very good neighborhood place. We try and go when we are visiting San Francisco.
My sister’s birthday.
Excellent food, friendly service staff, & wonderful ambiance !
Review says it all. Lots of 5 stars
We have been coming to Isa, since they open. The original owner chef was amazing with his wife managing the floor. We were disappointed with our recent visit. The service was average, not very attentive but it wasn’t bad. We noticed the price had increased, that’s fine, but the food & portion was subpar. With this price point there are many to choose from. We might give isa another shot. Hope there’s improvement upon our next visit.
Appetizers entrees and desserts were all delicious! Lovely service and ambiance. A neighborhood favorite!
I did some research here that the restaurant is pretty good However, I totally disagree with that. The service is really bad. The food here taste normal, not surprise, but expensive. The food doesn't equal the value of it. Moreover,I wait for my third course like forever:( I don't want to eat here anymore. REALLY DISAPPOINTED!
Amazing food. The duck and scallops in the main course are highly commended. Oh, spicy tuna is also good.
We weren’t seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time. Service was good but quite slow, Which meant us paying for an extra 2 hrs of babysitting. Food was hit or miss, some dishes quite good while others were so-so. If you’re a parent it’s probably worth going to a higher end but faster place.
The courses took extremely long to get served
It was packed because of Restaurant Week, no any empty table so all staff was super busy and the level of noise was a bit higher than I thought. Food was good, although had to wait for a while between dishes due to busy time, but waiters did what they could. Atmosphere in general was quite nice and I would come again, probably during a less busy week.
Even though we’d waited for 40 minutes to be seated with prior reservation, we’re happy with the environment/atmosphere (they’ve done a great job converting a huge yard into an enclosed and cozy dining area), the food, and the service. All the ingredients used were amazingly fresh. Even the pairing vegetables were carefully selected, e.g. golden beets, fennel, brussel sprouts, butter lettuce, etc. With a full house and table turn overs, the waiters wete able to stay on top of all the orders, making sure everything’s being served in a timely manner, honorable mention to Sammy our waiting person who helped to make our dinner so entertaining. We’re very happy with the entire experience and will definitely revisit it again.
We got to the restaurant 15 minutes early and were told to wait outside, which was fine. The host, however, called the party that came after us with the same reservation time slot, and seated them before us. We were finally seated after more than 30 minutes past our reservation time.
Service was very slow, partly due to the fact that it’s SF dining week. We had to ask more than once to follow up on our food.
Food was acceptable but nothing memorable. Blood collected on the plate of duck breast and foie gras. I really liked Isa in the past, but I felt like everything went downhill.
Good prices but everything cooked was more rare than medium rare. Full house and staff was rushed? Not good for advertised foie gras which came out with a sinewy slimy center. Very surprising for a French advertised restaurant as it showed very cold fresh liver was seared and not French prepared liver was cooked. Woke up at 3am with stomach pain. Waiter lectured me on how to alert server and staff right away for problems that they can fix. Came during restaurant week and could not order signature dish, potato wrapped fish. Overall, a letdown from previous visits. Waiter did remake my cocktail to my liking.
very good food. very noisy. conversation difficult. Quieter in front room. We were seated in the tent.
We weren't told ahead it was restaurant week so set menu. They also wanted us in and out-
We came back here after restaurant week. What we did not know was that the smaller portions during restaurant were the same during the regular days. The steak had to have been the smallest steak I’ve ever seen, and we’re not talking about filet mignon here. Don’t get me wrong, the flavors were great, but for the value, it wasn’t worth it. Another issue was that they advertised outside the store front that it was happy hour and specials on wine. We confirmed with the waitress, and she said it was not happy hour. After ordering an entire bottle since it “was not happy hour,” we asked another employee if it really wasn’t happy hour, and it was in fact. So, we could have order our wine by the glass and would have been cheaper if we ordered the bottle. Service and attentiveness was good, but the effort to make things right was subpar since we still paid for the full bottle price. I don’t think we would come back here unless it was restaurant week.
Great food, but I wish I knew we were going to be forced to do the restaurant week menu. I didn’t want all that food but was forced to order it all.
Went here for SF Restaurant Week with a few friends. Everything was delicious but a few dishes that stood out were the Mussels, Tri Tip, Scallops, and Duck! Service was amazing, waiter was very friendly and recommended an okay wine.
Went here for SFRW, had a resy for 7P but was told our table was not ready and we couldn't even wait at the bar because it was filled :(. We got seated 30 mins later and were not compted for the wait boo! The food was delicious and this is the only restaurant on SFRW with 4 courses. So you definitely get the best bang for your buck! The service could've been a tad quicker but I get it, was a bussssy day!
Food was good. Waited 45minutes for dessert. I understand it’s restaurant week but we were seated early. It’s not like there wasn’t time to prepare for the demand.
Our reservations were made for 9pm and did not get seated until after 10pm... by then they were out of oysters, bread, etc... the timing of food service is just a complete chaos.
This was just a complete fail to showcase this restaurant during SF restaurant week. I’m still curious to find out if this is just the norm at that location... I’m hoping that they were just having a really bad night. Other than that, I wouldn’t even bother coming back at all.
The only disappointment was the table we were assigned.
We made the reservation for the first day of “Restaurant Week” at 5:30pm. We were the first group arrived. But they gave us a table was so small that we had to rush to finish the food in order to make more space for new dishes. While a bigger round table right next to our table stayed open until 7:00pm. We thought it would be for a bigger group but it turned out to be the same number of ours. It seems unfair! I wonder what the factors for them to assign the table. I would be interested to find out.
Excellent food!! Super delicious and unique! Lots of options for everyone! Delicious drinks! Also wonderful ambiance! Strongly recommend the prefix menu!
We LOVED Isa! The risotto was outstanding, steak was cooked perfectly and our crab salad was fresh and delicious. The lights in the restaurant make the meal feel magical and the service was very fast and delightful. I have already recommended to several friends!
Fois gras.....enough said! Started our meal on just the right note!
Really enjoyed the way Isa is set up to give us the ability to share all our dishes, so between 3 of us it really felt like we had enjoyed a delicious 10 course meal. Service was friendly and attentive. Food came out as it was cooked—we enjoyed it that way, though it might throw others off if they were expecting courses delivered in more traditional fashion. We were seated in the front area; apparently there’s a back room that was perhaps more intimate and less “busy” but we didn’t know about it until we overheard someone ask to be seated there and we had already started...still, we’d eat here again and would recommend it.
The tables are squeezed on top of each other, making it noisy and nosy. We struck up a conversation with our next table mates, who were lovely people but it would be a bit more intimate with fewer tables.
This is a go-to neighborhood restaurant that always delivers a very pleasant dining experience. The food is consistently delicious with many choices, the quality of the food is tops, the service always curtious and friendly. Unlike most restaurants, sitting in the front section is great for conversations as it is not noisy with boisterous patrons.
It’s all good
This was our second time at Isa on New Year's Eve. The food both times was excellent. Service is efficient. This time we were seated in the enclosed outdoor patio with heaters. The temperature alternated between too warm and too cold. It had a hectic feeling with many wait staff rushing around. Not sure I would do this again.
Loved this place mainly but took advice - rather prescription - to order everything at once and food pretty much came all at once. We were hoping to enjoy something a little more leisurely.
First time to Isa. It is a delightful environment with a good mix of cozy and open space in the front and on the back fully enclosed patio. Very nice.
The food is excellent. It is well prepared and presented.
The service could be a bit more attentive and on our night it would have helped if our waitstaff person was a bit more knowledgeable about the menu specifics. Also, the meal was well paced, but getting the check took much longer than expected given that it wasn't crazy-busy.
Overall, it was a very good experience and I'd go back again.
Yummy and great service staff
Love it, great food, wine and service.
Always great service and food. The atmosphere is great on the patio and in the restaurant. I enjoy sitting on the patio. The heaters keep you warm. The service here is fun and friendly. They are all there to help you and each other. We ordered many of the recommended dishes and they were all great. My favorite continues to be the risotto, lamb chops, sea bass and crab salad. I didn't have the scallops but those that did said they were very tasty. I will continue dinning here and bringing guests to this beautiful neighborhood place.
My favorite find in the city. Their weekday prix fixe cannot be beaten. Period.
