Isa Ratings and Reviews
I initially chose Isa as the spot for my birthday dinner because it seemed like a young, cool place with a sophisticated side. It was definitely all of these things. The ambiance was really cool, although the restaurant was very dark and the menu was hard to read. We loved our appetizers (the fried chickpeas were fantastic), which were recommended to us by the enthusiastic waitress. Our mains were also delicious and it was nice to have a selection of different foods than we normally eat. The only problem was desert. There were only two desserts (olive oil cake and a chocolate mousse-thing), both I am sure were fine, but it was a bit of a let down that they had so few options. I would recommend this place to people looking for a cool place to have dinner in Brooklyn (a slight hipster vibe), just maybe look at the menu before-hand.
The food was prepare to perfection. We had a sampling of several dishes and were impressed by everyone. Stand outs were the roasted pork chop and pizza. I, as one whom does not care for pork chops 99% of the time, took the recommendation and was blown away. Cooked to perfect temp and a crusty ribbon of fat made the chop the best pork dish I've ever had. Very funky hipster feel to the joint. Staff was great, food was great, overall a 10.
Went with a friend on a random Wednesday. We shared two salads and the steak main to share. Fabulous! And more than enough. We didn't go for dessert but can imagine. Great foodie variety and the steak was cooked to perfection of medium rare. Lovely service. Would definitely recommend to others and visit again. Convenient location and quite decently priced. Super adorable open kitchen and cabin type feel with the wood.
We sat in a window with a great view of the neighborhood. Our service was relaxed but professional. The menu is limited, but the offerings were interesting, and cooked fresh. We arrived early and enjoyed the eclectic crowd that grew as we ate. I'd go back here again anytime, we had a great night here.
We went for New Year's Eve. Maybe the chef was out partying? The pizza was cold, as was the swordfish special. A scallop dish was sold as a main course but barely an appetizer-sized salad. Cocktas were fine but small. Background music was good - pushed every hipster button available. Proceed with caution.
We went as a work group for a holiday lunch and it was perfect. Not busy and so we got great attention from our server, who was excellent--recommending dishes and amount of food for our group to share. And the food was excellent! Everything from pizzas to chicken and fish, and multiple salads. Our entire group was more than happy. A great experience!
When the best you can do it order side orders because the main courses are unappetizing, you know you are in trouble. This is the epitome of hipster indifference. The menus are childishly presented. Perhaps that is an effort to be cool.
On the bright side, the rooms were nice, urban rustic. The music not too loud. The wait staff acted appropriately bored and indifferent. We felt like we were in Portlandia. Yes, the sitcom.
Nope. Not returning. Ever.
I hadn't been to ISA in a few months and so it was delightful to spend Thanksgiving there. The food was good. We were a party of 3 at 4.45pm on Thanksgiving and so the restaurant wasn't busy. I wanted somewhere which wasn't typical of Thanksgiving.
The only downside was the service. Initially it was fine however the waitress never followed up with us about drinks and my guests had to ask her for wine with dinner. I do not drink alcohol and at one stage asked for a diet coke at which point she sarcastically said "we do not sell coca cola products at all". The air of haughtiness in her voice was not becoming over her. I felt like saying, "the reason I am asking you for a non alcoholic drink is because I am sober and in recovery." People can be so gauche sometimes...it spoiled it for me.
That aside the company, my friends, that I was with made it.
I booked Isa for my 30th birthday celebration because I had heard great things about the food and they were able to accommodate a big group. They had a huge farmhouse style table with space for 6 each side and a person each end so 14 ppl total. I had booked for 12 people. I ended up having one extra guest and upon arrival asked the hostess if we could add the extra person. She was so rude I was shocked! She made out like it was such an inconvenience to add one person when there was clearly ample space. She did add the chair with a scowl. The servers were slightly better, certainly not as rude as the hostess but still, not much personality or interest was shown. Our dinner was at 7.30 and at 9.30 we were kicked out and told there was another party waiting. I understand that we can't stay all night but the manner in which they treated a large group spending a lot of money was just unacceptable in my opinion. It's a shame because the good was great but with a nasty hostess and sub par wait staff I don't think I'll be going back.
Great place, wonderful service and friendly waiters, all and more at Isa. The food was mouthwatering and drinks complimenting each bite, until you reach a food-gasm (which was my first time for me because everything tasted so good). Definitely can't wait to come back here.
In a neighborhood where everything is a "concept" envisioned by idealists and abandoned when it doesn't work out exactly as planned, Isa stands out. Sure, it was a bit overworked at the onset, but the space and the homey Italian-inspired food were both strong, and they have won. Sit in the inner bar room near the fireplace and have some of the best roast chicken in the world. The salads and pizzas are also excellent, as are drinks. Wine list is small but has some good choices. Service is professional - another anomaly in Williamsburg. Lovely ambiance fueled by eclectic, wonderful music. Lunch is quiet and dinner is busier, but when the Dominoids start pouring in, no doubt they will be crazy busy. Keep up the great work.
Isa is perfect for date night, catching up with a friend or friends, dinner with parents, pretty much any occasion. It's a really beautiful restaurant, the menu is great, the food is delicious but the only major let down is, what kind of Italian restaurant doesn't have gelato on the menu?!
I am a local regular at Isa and will remain one!
I haven't dined in Williamsburg in a while but scheduled a meet-up with some friends from out of town. Honestly, Isa wasn't my first choice in dining but glad it turned out to be the resulting choice. Many of the other restaurants in Williamsburg (Bedford Ave (L) vicinity) require reservations which makes it nearly impossible to explore cool restaurants in the area. While Isa accepts reservations, it's not a requirement. I think that is important element for neighborhood dining. Beyond that technicality, the restaurant is great! Cocktails are top choice with fresh ingredients and talented mixologists. The food is of the same combination, fresh ingredients and talented chefs. I will return.
Food was very good- we had homemade ricotta appetizer with sopressata, pizza of the day and kale salad as appetizers.
The pizza and sopressata/ricotta plate were delicious and melted in your mouth, so highly recommend. The kale salad was below mediocre because it must be crispy.
steak was good. deserts were okay. the wine was very good also because on the wine menu they had an actual list of ingredients of this wine- i had something that had pear and roasted cashew and peach or nectarine in it. Atmosphere very cozy! service good. Recommend By all Means!!!
I have been to ISA a few times and the food has always been outstanding. We have always order a few things for the table rather than for individuals and it has been such a great experience. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service has always been good.
Visiting from SF..found this place online. Incredibly yummy food. Nice service, interesting decor. Some of the most uncomfortable chairs any us have ever sat in. What are you thinking? Fix it..I'm serious! Great food and dreadfully uncomfortable seating. I'd go back but I'd bring a chair.
We don't usually go out in Williamsburg for dinner, but found ourselves there Saturday night. The menu is small but the options are healthy, the portions are huge and the food delicious. I don't normally order chicken in wood fire ovens because it tends to be dry but this was incredibly moist and succulent and the yogurt sauce out of this world. The spicy chick peas are also a treat. And, the setting, while rustic and in a trendy neighborhood is perfect for those who might not consider themselves of the hipster set. We will definitely return.
We love Isa's breakfast pizza - the combination of Garlic, panchetta, sunny side up eggs, pizza dough in the brick oven - amazing.
However, it felt like they changed the recipe and the garlic sauce was not the same as before (which has a large impact on the Pizzas flavor).
I might be wrong about the recipe changing, but in that case they just under-performed this time. Oh, the avocado sandwich is too small :(
In any case, great place, great large windows opened to the street make the place feel like it's outdoors, and the staff is great!!
Thought we'd venture away to Williamsburg for a change of pace. Isa was highly recommended. Though we had a nice time, we wouldn't go back.
The gnocchi, which the wait staff said was great, was undercooked and the sauce lacked sausage. In fact, there wasn't enough meat to add any real flavor to the sauce.
Two of the guests had the roast chicken. Good, but nothing special. I had the cod. it was delicious, but $28 for 3 oz of fish was outrageous.
I'll stick to the restaurants in Carroll Gardens. More interesting creations and better food.
We had a 6pm reservation on a Saturday and it was lovely. By the time we left the place was very busy. The appetizer list is lovely. Plenty of choices for people who don't like overly done (like me). Our waitress was a nice mix of friendly and giving space. The sparkling wine from Italy is perfect. I'd definitely return.
Great atmosphere, great food, and reasonable prices. I took some visitors from out of town here, and they loved it. The cauliflower appetizer was amazing, and I'm not normally a fan. Also a great bread basket, which is always nice. I had the pizza of the day, which had a spicy fennel sausage and spinach and was excellent. Better than Motorino around the corner in my book! Best of all, the service was all very friendly, and our server was both knowledgeable and impeccably attentive.
My only complaint was that the wine list seemed a little pricey relative to the menu, and the beer selection was slim (I understand it's not really the focus, but when the wines are all $50+ bottles it becomes one!). But overall I can't recommend Isa enough!
