Waited for hostess for a long while before getting seated. Menu was a bit misleading with the header "most dishes can be made vegan" in reality it was about 4 dishes. We were also told that some dishes had run out already but the restaurant hadn't been open that long.
Let me start by saying that I love this place! It's my neighborhood go-to, but this visit wasn't so great. Food quality and price still good. But I ordered 3 Tapas and all showed up lukewarm, like they had been sitting for a while. Hope it was just an off night as I will go back.
The food was great. Everything that we ordered came out quickly and was very good.
We will definitely return.
Food was incredible, service was even better and if you are looking for a great deal get the cocktail flight!
The food was good but the dessert was NOT impressive at all! Hope to see better desserts menu. And some coffee would be good.
Celebrated a birthday with my partner last night and we chose to try Tapas. Great space - fabulous ambiance. Friendly and helpful staff! Most of the food was really good. A few tapas were just good (pumpkin soup was a bit thin) and shrimp were cooked perfectly but nothing to write home about. The Credo salad however was amazing! And the Georgia Porch bourbon drink was one of the best cocktails I have had in a long time!
Excellent food, lovely outside space. Service slow but very friendly. We were able to have a relaxed meal without lots of hustle.
Tapas is a great way to experience alot of different flavors and dishes all at the same time. The wait staff was a little short, and did not wait to hear my question before giving the response to the question they thought I was asking. The food was amazing and siting out in front was really good if you like to people watch.
Great Tapas!! Excellent value on local wine. Would definitely visit again.
We had great service and yummy food @ Irving St Tapas. A mix of international cuisines in their small plate offerings. We loved the shrimp in a white wine sauce, steak with chimichurri sauce, peppered mushrooms, and Spanish olives. Also good was the Tomato and Burrata “stack” with a balsamic glaze. The chicken peri peri was “so so” and the mango pans cotta didn’t really work.
The cocktails were excellent! My husband got their “can’t decide” sampler and all four drinks had unique and good flavor.
This is somewhat unfair given the owner dropped by and spoke with us and I didn't say anything negative... but after thinking on the food we had I have to say this. The ahi tuna was so dry I really didn't want to eat it despite urging from another member of our party. The peppered mushrooms were nothing special nor was the mixed whole olive bowl with cold toasted bread. We got the Italian meatballs and those were cold in a hot dish. That was promptly and pleasantly fixed. We got the gumbo with sausage etc. and the folks that ate that felt it was OK. I got the tofu tikki masala, the spice was lovely and the tofu was velvety soft. We got the cretan salad which is really toast with an olive spread more or less and that was tasty. The Meditteranean salad I can only say I looked at but it rather looked like baby greens and not a lot else. I guess I'm feeling ambivalent, I just didn't feel the items were compelling. We've been to a lot of tapas places, esp. in NYC and there _are_ some compelling ones out there. The prices here are very reasonable for food, but they admitted that drink prices are high to compensate. I actually didn't think the drinks were that high honestly... $8-$12 cocktails are kinda right in the middle zone. So I was OK with the pricing. The atmosphere is really nice, open / airy and industrial-esque decor. That's always my go to, so I did really enjoy that. Some custom art touches.
Tapas were delicious and would definitely be a hit another time. Desserts were a miss though.
We were delighted: the staff, the outdoor ambiance,, the food. I wish the music were in the background, not so prominent.
Thank you for your feedback. We will make sure that we have pleasant music that is not too loud and is perfect for background!
Our server was absolutely horrible. The manager was very nice and attentive, so the experience overall was okay. I've eaten here many times, and this is the first time I have any negative comments at all.
Meh. We were so excited for tapas, but this place did not deliver. Our server was terrible. She was not warm or welcoming. We were never checked on, no sense of customer service, our order wasn't correct. The food was marginal at best. Save your time/money.
Setting was nice, and the tables were far enough apart to enjoy conversation. We liked the modern industrial decor. Food was pretty good, lots of variety, however we wish that they would have brought out the tapas in succession at different times versus all at once. The service was not great, we couldn't find the waitperson when we needed them and they just seemed rusty or awkward. Otherwise, good choice for a HH or dinner w/ friends and family to taste a variety of dishes. The meatballs were awesome.
Thanks so much for your feedback. We will make sure our wait staff is more attentive and take good care of our patrons!
I have been here twice in the last week with a group of friends. They are very accommodating to all dietary restrictions/preferences & the food comes out in a timely manner. Overall very yummy so will definitely be coming back!
Thank you so much Abigail. We look forward to seeing you again soon!
First time here-- nice atmosphere, good food (although not as Spanish as we were hoping for). We sat outside which was awesome!
Excellent food quality and service. Extensive wine list plus cocktails. Outside tables are plentiful and enjoyable. Can't beat this place for sophisticated tapas and good conversation.
Great food, seating, & service. Accomodated our group of 7 at a table that easily fit all of the dishes we ordered. Tables are well spaced apart for social distancing. Very nice variety of small plates especially with our group of varied tastes. All dishes were delicious.
Wide selection of tapas options and excellent cocktail list
Everything was amazing! Pheiffer was a fantastic server and was extremely kind and professional. Food was amazing!
The only thing I didn’t like about the restaurant was how hot it was indoors. It felt like there was no AC and I wondered if the employees were uncomfortable working. But everything else was great! I will be back for sure!
Our server was very nice, even able to source headache pain relievers when I asked ;) Was very excited that 2 globe trotting chefs with French Michelin chops crafted this menu and price point was very reasonable for the Pearl and especially for tapas, under $10. Execution however was amiss with half dishes lacking flavor or overcooked:
-Steak Chimichurri $8- requested rare, came out almost well done, juices all cooked out and no punch to the chimi. About 5 small 1.25"x .75" pcs.
-Greek Salad 5: no flavor, mostly greens with tiny diced cuke, couple kalamatas and feta dusting.
-Lamb Kebab 8: Ground & skewered like a cigar kafta kebab, this had the best flavor of any cooked plate, very spicy, may scare some but we enjoyed the heat, but again overcooked to almost dried out.
-Ahi Tuna 9 /4 large pcs: Lacked flavor & texture of sushi grade tuna~ uhh brings a shiver rn
-Samosa 6 /2 large Veggie triangles: Nice & crisp exterior not overly greasy. Potato & pea veggies had a more loose watery consistency that what I've tasted before. Mint chutney was lovely though. Beef fill / Brava sauce option.
-Peppered Mushrooms 6: were billed as a medley but only white mushrooms and onions served though but yummy warmth of curry leaf.
-Homemade Orange Ice Cream 7 / 2 scoops: Amazing ice cream, like the best quality creamsicle in a bowl, with bits of bitter orange rind to tame the not too sweet orange juiced vanilla.
-Bensonhurst cocktail 13 - Excellent for rye and cynar bitter lovers, balanced spice and bitter.
-Farmega '19 vinho verde 8 - Lovely for a warm day, crisp refreshing, slightly effervescent, mildly dry
Love to support local businesses and this one will have to go to back of rotation to get another shot. Lots of outdoor seating under heaters and vinyl curtains when the cooler temps arrive. Pretty empty at 5:30PM on a Thursday, st parking was easy, given Covid/substantially less workers in town. Interior was pretty much same and beautiful as Irving St Kitchen.
Food and drinks were fabulous! We met another couple and had so much fun I think we tried every dish. We were warned service would be slow and it was. Severely understaffed like so many other restaurants. I hope people get off Unemployment Insurance and take a job with Portland's restaurants- they need you!!
The ambience here is wonderful, and the food is terrific, and the service is outstanding! We were sad when the venerable Irving Street Kitchen closed in the pandemic, but are happy that Irving Street Tapas has opened in its place!
The service was outstanding and each of the small plates we ordered were well-crafted and flavorful. Very enjoyable place to eat.
My sister and I spent probably an hour to 1.5hrs trying to decide where to eat dinner in Portland. I finally found an "affordable eats in Portland" list and we chose Irving St Tapas on a whim. This was probably the best restaurant meal I have had in a couple of years. For our 7:30 reservation the place was bustling, but we were seated immediately and a server greeted us with water. We went slowly through the menu so as to not stuff our selves. We had the shisito peppers, the chimichurri steak and patatas bravas as our starting plates. They were fantastic! Everything was piping hot, well seasoned and the steak was cooked perfectly! The salad that accompanied the steak was also excellent. Next we had the Greek salad & lentil soup. Both equally delish, but the star was the bread that came with the soup. Both my sister & I love good bread and this was top tier. The servers recommended the orange ice cream as a final dish, of which I was very skeptical. I was proven very wrong. It was refreshing and creamy without being overly sweet. The staff was lovely and welcoming. My sister and I agree, we will be talking about this meal for a while to come.
Irving Street Kitchen was a favorite but maybe things changed in the transition to ISTapas? Or perhaps it was an off night. Some of the food - the gambas! - was delicious, but most just OK. The burrata stack, in late August no less, had under-ripe, flavorless tomatoes. Why not take it off the menu if the tomatoes aren't available?
Cocktails were tasty, if over-sweet for our taste.
IST is good, but not the experience I was hoping for.
We had a wonderful time at Irving Street Tapas! Great food and atmosphere and we look forward to dining here again!
We loved Irving Street Kitchen and were excited to see a new place move in when they closed. Sadly it wasn’t a good experience. The food was cold and we waited quite a long time between courses and that’s even if we received what we ordered. We left early and sadly would not recommend.
Service was good, but the food was just ok. I think there is a reason that I had never heard of this place.
the food was not enjoyable - lots of dishes, all of them substandard for a tapas restaurant. I mean really, frozen calamari?
The menu is more global than Spanish, which was my expectation going to a Tapas restaurant. There were four of us and we ordered three plates each and shared. Worked well. We had a great time and will come back.
Food was tasty, only order 1-2 dishes at a time. Don't go when it opens, if the food comes out immediately you know it was cooked ahead of time, and no longer hot.
Hot plates would help. Skip the salad, wilted greens.
Great food and service! Fun atmosphere.
Expensive food. Not terribly imaginative. Tiny amounts. We left after a few plates and went for a proper dinner.
So glad to have this new restaurant in my neighborhood. Love the food, friendly staff and the reasonable prices.
Great service - food and drinks were fast. But food and cocktails were just average. Good wine list. Was hoping for more since we miss the Irving Street Kitchen (the former restaurant at this location). Nothing was bad, and some things were good, but nothing outstanding. Hopefully things will get better as they settle in. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and be back to try it again.
Irving Street Tapas was a hit. I love variety in my meals and this is the perfect place for that. Dark, romantic ambiance at night, but depending on where you're sitting, it's tough to read the physical menus. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Drinks were excellent. The Gambas al ajillo and peppered mushrooms were delicious, highly recommend. Great value for the food - we had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back.
