Excellent menu, varied choices, very well executed. Friendly, competent service. Will return!
I love to eat here, especially for special occasions. Unfortunately, the check in host station staff working the outside section was extremely rude. While we had a reservation, it was understandable that they do not reserve for outside. However, the outside server had quite an attitude that reservations do not apply to outside and would be a 90 minute wait. The tone was extremely rude and unwelcoming. All I did was nicely ask about the outside availability. I had brought my family and fiance who had just arrived to the USA and they were shocked at this unpleasant way we were spoken to. Very condescending. I live locally and have dined many times before without that kind of experience before.
We had a lovely table inside which was fine and a good meal with good service. unfortunately we felt unwelcome by the check in.
Great food and great service! The food was so fresh and tasty.
Love the tacos and salads! Get an outdoor table and enjoy the ocean breeze.
What a great time at McLoone’s Iron Whale. The food, service, and ambiance were all fantastic. It was a great get-together with old friends from Boston. Thank you.
Even with several tables unoccupied, we still waited an additional 10 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. The burrata app was delicious, the bean burger was not so much. The bartender was lovely and our waitress Kelly was great.
As always, the do
Have gone here several times before and always loved it. Seemed under staffed tonight. Waiter Jake was great just spread too thin for one server. Food was not good. Everything was way o er cooked. Hopefully just a bad night.
Excellent ambiance, excellent food and great service too!
Watermelon Smash is a must!!
Great Food and Great Bar. All staff were excellent
Although there were many tables empty we weren’t given the table we preferred.
I really wanted to love it! First off, the oyster, clam, shrimp and crab meat platter was delicious - lovely presentation. But we all know hot sauce and oysters go hand in hand. It took a really long time to find our waitress and ultimately we had to flag someone else down for hot sauce. Then, the lobster roll had zero flavor. It was basically lobster meat and mayo. I already know this was only made with salt & pepper - but those aren’t seasonings. Also, as far as presentation goes, I didn’t like seeing such a big tray and a small roll with a few mesclun leaves passing for a salad. For the price, it was really disappointing. The ambiance was great, our waitress had an awesome personality and knew the specials right away, but the food fell short.
Food was excellent as was the service. Great setting outside by the beach. Highly recommend.
The customer service was great. Everyone that my table interacted with was kind and helpful. The cost was great compared to some other seafood options in the area.
Had a great meal here. Shared a delicious fresh salad and we ordered the mahi mahi special and a burger - both were excellent. The server was friendly and attentive. First time here and we would come again!
Had reservation. Great table for 2 in bar area near the door. Zachary our server was attentive & pleasant. He made a great cappuccino. Food was very good. We’re locals & enjoy this place especially in season. Great to people watch. Glad to see the Whale back to normal.
Our waiter was fabulous
Way overpriced for the quality of the food. Started off with peach salad. Could hardly be called Peach salad, three slices of peaches. That's it. Had calamari for an appetizer. A bit robbery and very thin sliced. Had Mahi for an entree. Extremely thin filet of fish that I could not positively identify as mahi. Waiter seemed in a rush. Wine was overpriced for the quality.
Server Justin was great!! The food was just okay, not worth the money. Had the New England clam chowder, we had to add a lot of salt and pepper cause there was just no flavor (tasted like out of a can). Also had the rigatoni Collins, very little seafood and the scallops were smaller than a penny, in a liquid sauce almost like a soup, and yet again no flavor. We just expected more for the money.
Great food, as always. Service was a little inconsistent.
Can’t beat the seating on the boardwalk with beach views. We shared a bunch of their starters and had a few drinks. A very nice spot overall!
Great food and service
High quality food; loved the oysters! Will be back.
The food was good although overpriced. Apart from the decor, there is little reason to justify the upscale pricing. We sat for 25 minutes before receiving any service. Apparently no one alerted the wait staff we were seated. Our waiter was polite and attentive once we did receive service. But there was no excuse for the poorly maintained restrooms. There was no toilet paper or paper towels in the ladies room, soap needed refilling in the men's room and garbage was overflowing in both. It was a somewhat disappointing way to celebrate a special occasion. Would not recommend to friends.
La comida muy rica y el servicio excelente!! Muy recomendable para visitar!!!
Just ok! Had a drink at the bar which was the best part. Food was just a little better than Fridays. French fries were tasty.
The atmosphere is really nice. The energy is dynamic, energetic and the decor is fun. They have partitions between any seating against a wall which gives a sense of both privacy and safety. It also helps to dampen the ambient noise.
Our waitress Kristen was lovely. She was attentive and friendly.
I had the Whale Mary and he had the APPK, followed by the Bourbon Cold Brew which he said was almost like a dessert. We enjoyed all of them!
We shared the olive tapenade which came with crostini. It was nice, but somehow had just a hint of sweetness which I didn't care for. My BF didn't mind and enjoyed it.
I had the mussels to start which came with the fries piled on top (I prefer them on the side). Again the mussels had a hint of sweetness, not sure if from the Pernod or something else, so they were OK, but not great. He started with the Chicken & Lemongrass dumplings. I really enjoyed them and he thought they were OK. The one great thing are the fries. They are very good!
For the main course, I had the Octopus salad. I asked for it with the spring mix instead of the arugula which they accommodated. It was good. I personally prefer it a bit more charred, which would have made it better. He had the Filet Mignon and it was nicely plated. It was perfectly cooked and the demi glace was, as he said, "on point".
Excellent dinner, our server Key was great. We went with a family member with Celiac and he was great about modifying and finding options. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Highly recommend for a night out
We both had tacos, one order with cod and the other with lobster. Lobster was tough. Salad and Cappuccino was excellent. Wished there were more fish choices on the entree menu.
My husband and I went to Iron Whale in celebration of his 40th birthday. I wish I had chosen a different restaurant. The best aspect of this restaurant was the decor. It's truly beautiful inside. The service was great the first half of our meal, but our waitress was MIA for a while during the second half. Food was just ok. Shishito peppers were oily and lacked flavor. Oysters were good. For dinner we had a shrimp tagliatelle dish that had almost no flavor. Very underwhelming. We also had the kale caesar with crabcake. Again, just ok. Crabcake was good, more lump crab than breading, but the salad needed more dressing. Cocktails were mediocre. I was hungry when we got there and asked for bread, but they only give packets of skinny breadsticks - those were good though - HA! Overall, I would not recommend this place for dinner. Maybe a drink and some oysters. I don't feel the food & drinks we got were worth $140.
Food was very good as expected. Seemed to be short staffed as it took a while to get our order in, and staff kept approaching our table with other food. Mistakes were made on our bill but were quickly rectified.
Have eaten here several times before and understand that this was not the usual. The server did his best under the circumstances. Will eat here again.
We had a great time at Iron Whale for our Anniversary dinner. Everything we ordered was fantastic. The calamari came out fresh and warm. The salads were generous portions with excellent taste (get the Jersey Peach salad - you won’t regret it). My husband ordered the Mahi for his entree and I kept stealing food off of his plate because it was that good! I had the crab cakes, which were also good. Creme brûlée and key lime pie finished off our evening. We couldn’t stop talking about how much we loved our food! Our waitress, Kelly, was great. She was attentive, kind, and made sure everything was to our liking. A pretty brutal thunderstorm rolled through in the middle of our dinner, so things became a bit chaotic with staff trying to get things off the tables outside and guests inside. The bar became crowded, and a small group had gathered at the end of the bar right in front of our table, which caused it to be a bit noisier than we anticipated, but we still enjoyed the remainder of our dinner. Aside from noise level, everything was great and we would definitely return!
We ordered fries and waiter completely forgot.
Typical run of the mill McLoone’s chain - with an unimpressive menu and just ok food, The linguine in the clam sauce was mushy and clams not plentiful, The oyster appetizer did not taste fresh. The sesame crusted tuna appetizer lacked flavor. Menu was uninspiring- but key lime pie was excellent. Service was attentive.
The food is phenomenal, Iron Whale is my favorite boardwalk restaurants in Asbury Park.
Service was great. The raw bar was great, fresh and priced perfect. Drinks were great. Lobster tacos were a poor value at $25. I will go back but just nor order tacos. Scallop dish was great.
Great service! The food overall was good… the mahi was delicious and the mesclun salad was fabulous. The linguini with clams and calamari were ok. While the swordfish was very tasty it was slightly over cooked.
Loved it! Drinks were great! Food was great! Service was great!
