Food was excellent ! Ambiance is very nice and rustic ; music is a little loud making it hard to talk over the noise The drinks were over priced and not as expected . Had an Aperol Spritz which watered down ; Prosecco ? Didn’t even think they put it in the drink . Overall , I would go back for the great tasting food but stay away from the drinks …

Hi, we found this restaurant just looking for something different in Royal Oak. Plus they advertise as Mexican. First the place smelled like a steakhouse, which would be awesome if they were a steakhouse! So I ordered the Enchalata meal, my partner had the Tacos. At the end of the meal we both shared our thoughts and they turned out to be identical. I don't know where this restaurant sources their food etc. But both meals tasted as if they had been reheated several times. The food was rather cold and you could actually see that sort of film that food gets when it has sat out. We wondered 8f maybe they run a food truck and then reserve unsold meals. Yes it was that bad! We weren't going to make a scene over it but when our waitress asked we told her our opinion. To our surprise she told us most customers complain along the same lines! She even offered a couple of alternatives in the area for Mexican food that she claimed would be much better. That was enough for us. We won't be back!

I’ve been wanting to visit this establishment for a few years now and I’m so glad we finally made it because it’s a keeper. We had the nachos and guac and cheese bread. The guac was amazing as was the cheese bread. The interior was a bit noisy, but we sat along the side toward the back (I believe on Open table it was called social distancing 2.0) and it was perfect. Incredibly cozy on a rainy night in December and absolute perfect ambiance for a post Van Gogh in America art exhibition snack. Service was great too. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

It was our first time at Iron Horse. It was a bit dark But added to the atmosphere. The food was really good. 3 of us had Mexican and one a chicken sandwich. All of it was very good and reasonably priced.

We went for an anniversary date night and it was great! Wonderful, friendly service. Good food and ambiance. It felt intimate while being busy/energetic there at the same time. Good music and moody lighting. It was our first time and we're looking forward to going again!

My husband and I were SO excited to try a 5* rated Mexican restaurant in Royal Oak, but we were both disappointed. We won’t go back. We had an excellent and friendly server. She did a great job. I judge a Mexican restaurant by its salsa’s and chips. The tortilla chips came warm and were tasty but the salsa tasted like it came out of a jar. I like some heat to my salsa, and I feel if a Mexican restaurant is authentic, it should offer both a mild and hot salsa option. That is not the case here. We ordered the chicken and beef fajitas for our dinner entrees. They both arrived hot and sizzling. The chicken fajita was good but the beef came with a cilantro forward chimichurri sauce over the top. I love chimichurri sauce but this was way unbalanced in flavor and it did not mention the sauce in the menu description. The place is small and very dark and is located right next to the RO theatre. Overall food was ok, But we won’t be back

Had a great Royal Oak Music Theater pre-concert experience at the Iron Horse. Only 4 people staffing the the front of house however they were very efficient. Food was very tasty and good value. Happy hour goes till 6 every day. Manager checked on us twice to make sure all was good.

The service was wonderful and the food was good. The menu selection was small and the restaurant itself was VERY dark and kind of a small place. The bathrooms are unisex and not in the restaurant but connected to it via a hallway that is shared with other establishments. All in all, I would go back but it wouldn’t be a top pick unless I really wanted a jalapeño margarita…those were fantastic!

We enjoyed tortilla soup, a taco salad, the buffalo shrimp taco, and a steak taco. The food was generally very good, but the steak taco could've been a little meatier. Our waitress was very nice and attentive--and she was doing double duty helping out the bartender. I had a "Evel (Knievel)" old fashioned which was a little on the too-sweet side, but totally drinkable. My wife had a classic margarita. Her first margarita was accidentally a jalapeno margarita, but our waitress graciously poured my wife a new one for no cost--minus the jalapeno juice--which was very good and appreciated. The manager stopped by to check in during our meal, which we also appreciated. Overall, we were happy with our experience at Iron Horse and will eat there again. If you like Mexican food that's above average and more creative, you'd probably enjoy it, too.

We enjoyed our meal at Iron Horse. I wanted to sit by the open window, but there was a crowd directly in front waiting for an event at the theatre. The back area was very dim, but the ambiance was cool. Steak fajitas (no pic) were well seasoned and tasty. 👍🏽Mexican pizza and tortilla soup that had avocado in it. The margarita was just ok, I liked the mule much better.
