Iron Hill Brewery - Lancaster Ratings and Reviews
A first disappointment. Our family typically enjoys an evening at this restaurant. Unfortunately, other than the waitress who was helpful and friendly, I can’t say anything else positive. Our party of 5 was seated right by the bathroom hallway. It was extremely noisy and cold. The menu had changed since we had been there last,so a vegan in our group had very few options to choose from. We were there to celebrate an early Valentines dinner. Guessing it will be a while till we all return.
We had a 6pm reservation. We called and asked if we might come earlier and were quickly accommodated. We had a flight of beers, which were good. I had the gumbo appetizer which was very thick and spicy. My wife had the Cajun shrimp entree and found it to be very good. I had a full rack of ribs, half of which were excellent, half undercooked. I informed the manager who made a quite generous adjustment to the bill. The sweet potato fries were excellent. My wife had the malt with pralines and bourbon ice cream and I had the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The service was great and the manager's willingness to work with us was much appreciated. We look forward to a return visit!
The food was tasty although I and my frienda had some unpleasant surprises of meat. I ordered medium steak and received well done, my friend asked for medium and got raw. Additionally, we were celebrating birthday and I wad disappointed that a birthday girl didn't get any dessert (I put a note in reservation)
We had a wonderful experience. The beers were amazing, so many IPA's to choose from. The food was wonderful, prepared exactly as we ordered. Our service was excellent, from the hosts to the servers, everyone was great. Capri was our server, and she was training (Amanda), they both did wonderful! We will be back! My kids love to eat here, great kids menu as well.
Service felt rushed, we had barely started eating our apps when our entrées came out. Our server was super friendly and attentive the food timing just wasn't great. The food was very good with the exception of the fried brussel sprouts they were overcooked and under season but the rest of our meal was excellent.
They sat us right by the bathroom when the dining area was 80% empty... no excuse for jamming 7 people on a small table for 6. Other patrons had to walk sideways to avoid bumping the person in our party sitting on the end of the table on their way in and out of the restroom. .. waitress was good.. food was good... manager and hostess should be fired!
My husband likes the beer. I wanted to go because of the gluten free choices. Our meal was tasty and reasonable. I do wish there were more gluten free dinner choices. The filet and mashed potatoes were very good, but can get that almost anywhere. There is gluten free pasta and flours and wish they would use and offer. The gluten free menu is great for lunch though. Don't know why most restaurants can't serve more filtered type water.
Had a reservation for 7:00 but our table wasn't available for over 20 minutes. The food was good, ambiance was good, service was fair. We were out with friends. As soon as the server collected our check she disappeared. We stayed to talk for awhile, there plenty of empty tables, but she never stopped back to refill water or see if we wanted anything else. Otherwise, a good evening.
I was visiting Lancaster for the weekend with my husband and 2.5 year old daughter. We figured this would be a good place for dinner and made a reservation. The evening started out unpleasantly with our hostess admonishing us for being 3 minutes late for the reservation (obviously she doesn't know what it's like to go for dinner with a toddler) which initially soured us. Luckily, it was uphill from there. Our waitress was extremely friendly and made great beer suggestions. My husband had the fish 'n chips and I had the filet mignon. Both dishes were delicious. I was actually very impressed with the filet mignon which I asked for medium rare and was cooked to perfection. The place is very kid friendly. They brought us a high chair and kids' menu with crayons. There was an issue with our daughter's meal (came out later, I think it may have been forgotten or dropped) but our waitress was so apologetic and someone I believe to be a manager came to apologize as well, so it ended up being fine. The food here is really quite good and reasonably priced and, obviously, the beer selection is great. I would recommend this restaurant for a family night out.
We used Open Table for reservations. We arrived 1 minute after the other couple in our party. They had already tried to seat them in the middle of a loud room. They asked to be moved, However, IHB never made note of it, so when we got there, they just gave us a pager and told us it would be a few minutes. Upon entry, the gal was looking for my reservation, and the other girl, without looking at me put her hand out with the pager. I asked her if she was talking to me; she said yes. I told her she never made eye contact, and she never greeted me. Her response was curt, but not apologetic. After a few minutes, our party noticed we were waiting. They had to come get us! So, we handed back the pager, again, no apology. We were celebrating our other party's anniversary. The room was extremely noisy, so it made talking very difficult. At one point, we had 3 different servers. We started with guacamole and "warm" tortilla chips as written on the menu. The chips were cold! We did get warm chips after requesting them. When our other party arrived, they were offered beer samples. When we arrived, we were offered nothing! 2 gals served part of our food. One gal put the plate right in front of my face to hand to my sister. I had to jolt back because she almost hit my face with the plate! The other gal politely passed her plate to the other party and said, "I apologize for my reach." Our silverware kept falling off the table because the plates were so big, and the table was so small. The drinks have too much ice, so I recommend asking them for "little ice." Our table was near the restrooms and the kitchen. My husband was on that outer corner and was hit twice. Don't sit there! The food was good, a bit overpriced, but our guy server was very accommodating. I work in hospitality, and some of what went down would never have been accepted in our venue. No plans to go back anytime soon.
Frankly— Iron Hill’s food isn’t anything all that special— which is not commensurate with its price point. For example— a crock of their version of French onion soup went for $7.00. It wasn’t anything special— or even fantastically cheesy. It was meh. Which would have been okay if the price was too. But it wasn’t. A friend ordered the sweet potatoes fries for $10. Again. Meh. I ordered the Korean Barbecue sliders expecting soy, garlic, ginger— Korean flavors— what I got was a bite so spicy (and the word “spicy” made no appearance as an adjective for this dish on the menu) it ruined my mouth for tasting anything else.
Then the waiter put ice water in my sprite.
*sigh*. But my server was personable and attentive— I think she was excellent.
So. In my opinion, if you’re eating at Iron Hill— stick to the basics: burger, fries, beer. That’s it. Anything beyond this, and I think you might leave feeling like you could have gotten better food at a better price somewhere else. Maybe even at your own kitchen counter.
