Iron Hill Brewery - Lancaster Ratings and Reviews
Iron Hill is a busy casual restaurant by Franklin & Marshall College. It draws its clientele from all parts of the Lancaster community, however, and is particularly busy evenings, during lunch rush on the weekdays, and on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is eclectic American--everything from comfort food (often with a beer theme) to some more hybrid meals and specials. According to friends who drink beer, the beer selections--brewed on site--are quite tasty and diverse enough to please most palates. We were there in a group of eight, so we had lunch reservations. Reservations, in general, are recommended, though, because the restaurant can be crowded.
We could find nothing negative with our dining experience with Iron Hill. We were seated at our reserved table immediately. Iron Hill was quite busy .... our server was attentive, gracious and did not rush the evening. The food was very tasty. We will definitely dine at Iron Hill in the near future.
Sat. nite and busy as could be, no surprise there! A little slow seating folks but otherwise the service was good, the ambience lively, food was excellent. We'd eat there again and that has to be the ultimate recommendation when all is said and done. Keep up the very good work in Lancaster. It appears, on the surface, you've got a good group of folks working as a team to the benefit of all.
Food was excellent. I appreciated the large selection of gluten free items. Had the chicken sandwich on gluten free bun. The bun was tastier than most GF types, but the bottom part of it crumbled apart....still, it was better than most, so I didn't mind terribly. My friend who is very picky really enjoyed it also. Acoustics were poor though, making conversation somewhat difficult.
The very best turkey burger I have EVER had!!! So nice to get a lean turkey burger without grains and crap added! It was amazing and the bun was delish. Had sweet potato fries but they should be called sweet potato wedges...they were good but would have prefered thinner cut and crispier. Highly recommend making reservations in advance (we did!) and it was a great move; there was quite a wait.
Nice mid-way meeting spot for friends. Reliable food and menu -- always has something for everyone and usually everything is good to great. A few things are hit and miss. Artichoke dip is bland, but the marghertia pizza is great. Fries are always good. I'd call it very good pub food. My friends love the beer selection. If you sit in the bar, they do have sports on TV, so expect liveliness!
As always, the food (except dessert) was outstanding. Fried Mac/Cheese was served with an amazing spicy sauce. Guac and chips were great. Filet mignon was tender, cooked perfectly, and served with fabulous smashed potatoes. Chicken fried chicken was also cooked perfectly -- crispy on the outside with moist, tender white meat of chicken breast inside. Sadly, the desserts did not match the rest, so I took away a star for food. The creme brûlée was not a usual sweet custard -- it seemed more dense and flavorless. Not being a food critic, I can't pinpoint the problem -- kind of like whipped cream mixed with custard? But not sweet, except for the caramelized topping. And the apple crisp was not edible. Apples were not cooked enough, and it didn't appear there was any brown sugar/butter in the not-so-crispy topping. However, the ice cream accompanying the apple crisp was great and a huge portion, so we ate that.
