Really enjoyed everything about IronGate food , service, and ambiance. My only thought is we ordered too much. Next time we’ll either stick with tasting menu OR order off a la carte.
Truly lovely food and service. Back room, beautiful, open at top of walls and open trellis ceiling crisscrossed by vines. Fans to draw air through open ceiling and open wall top perimeter. We’ll be back to eat semi-outside again before the cold weather comes.
Fantastic service, great food. Were some kids running around the patio at one point but we went on a Wednesday so the vibes may be different on weekends.
Absolutely fantastic service from our server John, including great wine recommendations. Love how he took the time to explain the menu to us, and never rushed us. The space is very pretty - love how hidden away it is! Have been working in the Dupont area for over 6 years and never knew this was there. Very historic also, which was great.
Food was very good! Not like, one of the best meals of my life good, but very good regardless. They were accommodating to our vegetarianism.
We went to Iron Gate for our 6th (Iron) Anniversary and they did not disappoint. We chose the family style dinner and were treated to a beautiful selection of small plate antipasti and amazing entrees following. Be warned, there is a large amount of food. We ended up taking home a good amount. The server did a great job of labeling all the various foods in separate containers for us and when our 11 month old daughter started getting tired, the staff expedited the service for us so we could get home. It was a wonderful experience. We definitely will go back.

This is probably my favorite place in DC! The knowledge of the staff is impeccable. The food is gorgeous and absolutely delicious. Two of us are gluten free for celiac and every person that brought food to our table highlighted what was prepared gluten free. We even got special dessert! The entire staff was attentive but not intrusive. The ambience is the best - sitting outside under the grape arbor and lights. We even got good-bye cookies (gluten free) and a thank you note from our server. The entire night was an experience, and amazing all around!
Great experience and ambiance. Additionally there service was exceptional. However for the price, the food was fairly underwhelming other than the gnocchi. Overall very nice and will be back, I just won’t do the chef’s table again but I think you should at least try it once

I just have to rave about how great they were about my gluten allergy! So many great substitutes/alterations to accommodate me. I was really impressed. They have gluten free pasta available as a substitute!
This was our first time at The Iron Gate. We had lots of questions and our server (Victoria, I think?) was amazing. Her knowledge about the wines was incredible! She allowed us lots of tastes as she described each one!! The tapas dishes were very generous and delicious! This restaurant is definitely a “do-over”!

Quite small menu, excellent quality, knowlegable servers, extremely slow service, acknowledged and mitigated with an extra complementary wine pour.
Went for our anniversary. Food was great. Staff tested us so special and gave us each a glass of champagne at the end our our meal. It made our celebration really special
Lovely hidden garden. Wonderful food and great experience. Beautiful seating for those that want to be outside but not in direct sun- under a blanket of grape vines. Service was excellent and the pacing of the small plates made for more conversation. Went for brunch but dinner would great as well.
On the whole, we enjoyed our time at Iron Gate. The food was delicious and the staff was attentive. Three small disappointments. First, when we arrived at our reservation time our table was not ready. We were then made to wait for 10+minutes. Second by the time they sat us we were told the Focaccia had run out. Third, we wished the tables were spread out better. There was little room to get in and out of our seats and it felt counter to good social distancing practices. Otherwise, we had an enjoyable time.
Iron Gate deserves 10 stars. The experience, ambiance, and atmosphere at other restaurants pale in comparison. We loved every dish in the Chef’s table — the portions, the flavors, and the variety were absolutely special. Our favorites were the oysters and the gnocchi Raghu. Our waitress recommended delicious wine and the bartender created an off the menu Mezcal cocktail we all loved. We can’t wait to go back.

We've visited Iron Gate many times over the last 2 decades and it is always a lovely place with good food. This was our first visit in Covid times and it was well set up for comfortable outdoor dining. The food was fantastic. The 2 meat-eaters at our table had the Chef's table and it was great except for dessert. It would have been nice to have options for dessert since ours was a fig/Greek yoghurt dish (very good but we would have liked a richer dessert such as the chocolate dish we saw at the next table). I think for a future visit I would recommend the a la carte menu to all. The server was wonderful and the atmosphere peaceful and romantic.

Tasted 3 types of wine, all delicious. All courses were delicious and well proportioned. Outside seating was absolutely gorgeous. A great place for date night!
My husband and I are big fans of Iron Gate. The aesthetic is beautiful. The food impeccable and the service unmatched.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and the staff made us feel welcomed and her feel special. Service was superb and our waiter was patient enough to explain the menu. Although, it was very hot and humid since it was outdoor seating. Overall, we greatly enjoyed our experience and will come back to try the Chef’s Family Table option.

My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary and dinner was delicious. This was our 4th time eating at Irongate and the food is consistently great. Servers were respectful and helpful. Would highly recommend for a special night out.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants when they served Middle Eastern food. Now, the menu has no ME foods that I could recognize, anyway, and is very limited, with few options aside from the price fixe (Chef’s Table) and no entrees for vegetarians. At the server’s suggestion I ordered the gnocchi without the meat, but the kitchen didn’t replace the meat with a plant-based alternative, of which there are so many choices these days!, so it was like nothing so much as a can of Chef Boyardee. I had a few bites but that was all I could eat.
The beet salad was very good, with a hunk of white cheese (?) rolled in sesame seeds.
The focaccia was different from any I’ve ever made or seen elsewhere: very high and fluffy, very sweet dough. It was almost like cake, and not what I was expecting.
My two guests ordered the Chef’s Table. Some dishes they liked more than others. They hardly touched the frittata. The other three people in our party thought the food was just okay, except the olive oil cake, which they loved.
We had a bottle of wine ($56) and I had a margarita. The bill for my two guests and me including tips (20% server and 3% kitchen staff added automatically since there were six of us at the table) was $415. Ouch.

Iron Gate is a DC classic.....have been going there since the 1960s. Excellent food and ambience. A la carte menu could offer more choices, however.
