Great experience overall!
Great romantic ambience. Outside seating in a hidden courtyard. We were there in January on a night where it was about 45 degrees but were kept warm enough by the heat lamps.
Having to remask every time each of the staff comes to the table is too much. Not an enjoyable evening for such a pricey meal.
The outdoors with multiple fire pits was cozy. However put some dang cushions on the metal chairs outside when its so cold during Covid.
Spectacularly bad. We had the chef's table. Honestly, the only real food was a measly
Great food and atmosphere! Excellent service!
Lovely experience. Our go to place for celebrations
Outstanding ambiance, food and service by our waiter, Cubby!
Wanted an outside dining experience for our anniversary. We had seen recommendations for the courtyard at the Iron Gate Restaurant. We had a most enjoyable experience. The courtyard was pleasant and protected from the weather on all sides. It was 42 degrees. We had dressed warmly and were comfortable at a table for two with a propane heater next to us. The hostess was pleasant and answered all of our questions about the history of the restaurant and their experience during Covid. Our waiter was personable and professional. The menu was small, but creative, fresh, tasty, and fun. At the end, for dessert, they brought out a complementary delicious homemade ice cream bar with caramel sauce under the chocolate covering, that said "Happy Anniversary." Overall a very enjoyable experience.
This is one of my go-to special occasion restaurants and it did not disappoint in the time of COVID. The family table menu was excellent, as was the wine pairing. Everything was fresh and there wasn’t a weak dish in the bunch. All of the tables are appropriately spaced and there are plenty of fire pits. Don’t skip the autumn focaccia.
Outstanding service and amazing food and glorious environs
We gathered for a birthday dinner and it was a very chaotic evening . The waiter seemed agitated the entire evening and never made us feel comfortable. He kept interrupting our conversation at the most inopportune times.
The check out process was absolutely ridiculous, with each party member having to log onto an app and pay on line. It took almost 20 minutes for all six of us to pay our bill! A very unprofessional and awkward end to our evening. First restaurant during COVID that put us through this hassle.
I will say that the food was delicious and the ambiance was lovely. The only disappointments , food wise, were the desserts. The two inch Apple napoleons were $12 bucks a piece for two bite desserts! A complete rip off. My advice is to skip desserts all together and have an after dinner drink instead.
Most beautiful winterized restaurant we’ve seen! Outdoor heaters, seat warmers, warm cocktails. Wonderful!
We did the chefs tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was good, but it just didn’t seem to be worth the cost. The wine was ok, but wasn’t anything special either. The COVID precautions are extensive (must wear mask when anybody approaches the table). They had some fireplaces and heaters but it’s not enough for a cold night despite trying to dress for the climate.
The courtyard is lovely, tables are well spaced and the fire pits keep you warm. The food is delicious!
I was honestly underwhelmed by every aspect of this experience. I fully understand that COVID precautions hinder a restaurants ability to offer their normal service, but for the price point and mandatory 22% service fee applied to all tabs, I expected much more. I ordered their family table prix fix menu, which felt like an effort to get rid of whatever they had left in the pantry. The meal felt disjointed and unrelated - a Niçoise salad, cacio e pepe pasta, and a flavorless, tough textured bison skirt steak with chimichurri and crispy potatoes that we didn’t touch. Desert was pecan pie, which could have been bought from a grocery store. For what this restaurant posits themselves as, I couldn’t believe what we got. Do not go for the family table option unless you know exactly what you will be getting.
My husband and I had an amazing dinner on the patio at Iron Gate last Saturday. The setting is picture perfect and the food, drinks and service were exceptional.
This was my first time dining "in' a restaurant since the beginning of Covid. Iron Gate has done a wonderful job of taking care of guests AND employees from what we saw. We sat in the courtyard - with firepits around. It was cool but comfortable.
We shared the tasting menu and the wine pairings. Both were perfect! The service by Lucas was gracious and careful.
We went with another couple for my wife's birthday. The ambiance in the heated outdoor patio was outstanding especially on a mild December night, The food was excellent although the portions small for the price. The wine was very good but over-priced. The service, however, was spotty as the server did not have full knowledge of the menu and the starter plates were not cleared before the entrees were served. All the desserts were excellent (including the complimentary one). All together, a very memorable evening. My one remaining question is why we did not receive Open Table for this visit.
Iron Gate is my partner and I's anniversary tradition, and this experience was as fantastic as ever. The food was incredible, the outdoor seating was private and comfortable (and sufficiently spaced), and we felt cared for & celebrated on our special evening.
The overall experience at Iron Gate was absolutely amazing and very peaceful, and COVID-19 safe with outdoor dining. The servers were very friendly and surprised us with an appetizer and birthday dessert! I would love to go back - this experience was 100% worth it. Thank you so much for all your efforts to make dining out possible during these trying times.
Fantastic meal! Great service! Loved the grilled oysters. The host made hot chai lattes for us! We will definitely be dining here again!
Very nice and safe outdoor dining, with excellent quality food.
Probably my favorite restaurant in DC. I can't say a single bad thing about this place.
Food was excellent. However, service for outdoor seating could have been better. Heaters weren’t already prepared for when we arrived at our reservation— and they kept breaking making it really cold to sit and eat out. We rushed eating so we could leave quick.
This is fit for foodies with a sophisticated ambiance, even though we were seated outside. The service was excellent and the food even more so. It's pricey but I will try and dine there again before it gets too cold. Our waiter knew everything about the menu and gave us good advice. I think it was worth every penny!
Our server was fantastic and the staff was very Covid-aware and safe
Lovely outdoor ambience under vines with plenty of gas fireplaces for warmth. The food is superb Italian/Greek inspired and the staff were very kind.
The Thanksgiving Prix Fix was outstanding. Food was fabulous and service excellent.
However, I was surprised to discover that the same wine offered for $32 on their online takeout menu was $68 when dining in as the in restaurant wine list was not available on their website. Our server Cubby was extremely polite, helpful and provided very attentive service.
Very impressive Thanksgiving menu and service. Speaking of, manager should have credit for orchestrating her servers like a stage director. Very impressive. The menu, complements to the chef, was not the Norman Rockwell version. All courses were inspired, well prepared and attractively presented. (Just a little curiosity: check was presented with no offer of coffee or tea. Presumably because table seatings were closely timed.)
Superbly yours,
David M. Maxfield
Food was decent but the service was terrible. The staff is rude and dismissive.
One of the most romantic dinners I have ever enjoyed. The meal was excellent, the wine was excellent and the staff was very Covid careful. Loved the heaters and the late night dinner reservation. Thanks!!
When seated we were told we had 1.5 hours to dine, although we understand the reasoning, this was a very rushed time frame based on our plans to leisurely celebrate our anniversary together. 1.5 hours was not nearly enough time to enjoy a glass of bubbly followed by a shared bottle of wine. Dessert came out while we still had a few glasses of wine left and I usually prefer to finish my wine and order a decaf with dessert. We were concerned that we'd be asked to leave before having a chance to finish our wine. I'd recommend expanding the table time to a minimum of two hours, especially with the added slow down of having to put a mask on every time someone comes to the table. 1.5 hours, no matter what experience you're looking for, is extremely rushed.
We were also excited to try the Chef's tasting menu, but were both disappointed when we saw that the chef's tasting came with two salads... I usually don't opt for the expense of a chef's tasting menu to eat a modified Caesar Salad. Most of the other dishes were also underwhelming. The bison dish was cold by the time it was served, and nothing else really stuck out to us as anything more than mediocre.
The ambiance cannot be beat and was one of the reasons we still enjoyed our time at Iron Gate, the staff was also outstanding; very warm and friendly. Although counterintuitively, now that masks are a must, attentive wait staff becomes a bit of a nuisance every time they come to check on the table and our meal has to stop to put masks on. Overall, would recommend the vibe at Iron Gate, but the food is nothing to go out of your way for.
We has the most wonderful time at Iron Gate. We came for our one year anniversary and they went above and beyond in service. They sent over a dessert that said happy anniversary, sparkle rose and a nice note. It made the evening so special. And the food is beyond good. We loved everything we ate!
Fantastic ambiance, food, service and overall experience!
Nice outdoor dining and wonderful service from Kim.
The service was impeccable, and the approach to working around the virus was great!
The food was perfect, great pairings of flavours and the portions sizes were perfect.
We weren’t very hungry so only tried a few dishes but we will definitely be back for the full tasting menu.
Incredible service and ambiance while maintaining safe Covid protocols. The food quality was superb.
Very good experience - will be coming back
Fantastic outside patio with great ambiance. Super COVID protocals. Food was excellent. A great night out!!
