Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

    This was an occasion dinner and Iron Gate elevated it to a genuinely celebratory experience. The array of flavors were beautifully coordinated and a Mediterranean taste delight. It was a cold evening and sitting by the wood burning fire added to the relaxing and cozy experience it was. We will return in the warmer weather to enjoy the lovely outdoor space.

    Delicious chest’s family table experience with a wide variety of tastes and textures. Our waitress was excellent with her wine recommendations and describing the dishes as they came out. A great place for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

    Whenever my husband and I are in DC, we try to dine here. The cozy indoor space is our first choice, for its intimate vibe, but their fantastic tasting menu works in any setting! The service is always impeccable. This is our favorite restaurant in the city!

    Excellent meal. Iron Gate is a special place. There three course meal for $75 is a good deal. The waitor was very good and was super knowledgable on the wines and let us try his recommendations first. Only thing we did not like is the 3% kitchen staff fee. Suggest restaurant just pay their workers well and not make the customer obligated to do it. Added fees have gotten out of hand at restaurants. We want to enjoy a meal and not get a check with all kinds of fees added.

    I first went to Iron Gate Inn in the mid-70s, and it always was my go-to for a romantic place for dining in DC, and have been there from time to time over the years, including during COVID, rethought at Iron Gate. But now….the place, with their astoundingly creative chef, has kicked up the quality and complexity of the experience a couple of notches. The ambiance (great music, roaring fire, superb wait staff) astounding drinks (one of the best cocktails I’ve had with mastika, even in Greece), wonderful wines and then…what a great 3 course meal, with surprises at every turn… Even the hummus was special. Give yourself enough time; while lunch can be done quickly, dinner should be enjoyed slowly. One of the great DC meals, and that’s saying something given the quality of restaurants now in DC. I will be back as the seasons change!!

    Truly an amazing experience. Went here for an anniversary dinner and it felt like all the hostesses and servers knew about the special moment. I want to thank everyone who we interacted with for making it the most memorable dining experience we’ve ever had. Will be making a return trip for future special dinners.

    My wife and I celebrated our joint birthdays on a busy Saturday evening. We had the perfect table inside right by the fireplace and everyone wished us happy birthday throughout the evening. Our server Ana was fantastic along with Michael and the Manager (who we didnt catch his name) who all really made the night special for us. Thanks for a wonderful evening and the special touches!

    My wife's and my first experience with a nice restaurant, also our first date night in way too long, and I will say the "Chefs Family Table" did not disappoint. The quality and quantity of food that came out was phenomenal, I enjoyed everything that was brought out and my wife liked all but one thing(not putting it in here to prevent bias because it just wasn't her tastes). 10/10 suggest going there and enjoying yourself

    Delicious! Only downside was it took a long time for the server to come back and take our orders, being the check, etc. so the dinner ended up being a bit too long. Food and cocktails were exceptional. Pricey though, but that’s to be expected.

    We were seated 30 mins after the original reservation time — service was slow between courses, and not very thoughtful (I.e. no one asked if we wanted any drinks besides the complimentary bubbly glass, not even offered sparkling or plain water), main course (beef) came almost cold and cooked at chef’s discretion. Overall felt off from the service standard that the IG is known for.

    My partner and I went for Valentine’s Day. We had an amazing experience. We thought we would have to pick one of each course from the menu. But they gave us everything! It was all amazing no complaints from me and many praises from my partner. Well done. Definitely will recommend to friends

    We went here for my 5th wedding anniversary. Overall, it was a great experience. Our priority was a nice restaurant that had outdoor seating in winter. The seating outdoors is pretty nice. It has a decent amount of heat from fire pits at the table and standing heaters. I subtracted a star here because if you are a smaller table (e.g. a two top), you may be closer to another table. Unfortunately, we were and the tables next to us were pretty loud. The food was great. We decided to go with the family table option and it was great. One thing to note here: you must select the same entree and desert for the table. The service was great, too. They explained what the options were, people checked in with us frequently, and they even wrote a nice hand written note wishing us a happy anniversary. The price is pretty steep, especially if you opt to go with the family table and the wine parings. Although, I would say it is worth it, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion.

    Went for my Birthday Brunch with my Parents who are tough to please when it comes to food. They agreed with me in that the food was incredible, the atmosphere was amazing and we will definitely be back for dinner/brunch

    An overall wonderful experience. The patio was so cozy with all the fires and space heaters in February. The wait staff were friendly, attentive and answered all our questions about the dishes. The Family Dinner included many more plates than were listed on the menu, all of which were delicious. It was a really special experience.
