Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

    Love the carriage way bar, the back dining room was quieter than the patio but seemed to lack a certain freshness. Good and service were good but I wanted to be a little more wow-ed. would go again to try the chef’s menu for a more cohesive dining experience.

    I made a reservation for my birthday this weekend for four people, and the host was very accommodating in changing the reservation around for us. When one person in our party was late due to poor weather and wasn’t able to join, our server Zarina was patient about us waiting so long to order. Zarina made the day so special for me, gave the best food recommendation (the gnocchi! Chefs kiss!) and was nothing but pleasant. 10/10 recommend the food, the service, the atmosphere. We had such a lovely day at iron gate. Thank you guys so much. Thank you Zarina for your hospitality.

    We participated in the Chef's Table and the food was great. You receive all of the appetizers and some surprises aong the way. We chose the Bison flank which was awesome but the broccolini was pretty salty. For desert we had the spiced apple cake which was great as well. Overall the wine we had with dinner was spectacular as well and we really enjoyed our drinks (extra dirty martini, old fashioned, espresso martinis w/ dessert).

    Only problem was that the pasta with pesto was too salty -- and that there's too much food in the three-course meal! Be careful to pace yourself. Otherwise everything was terrific.

    Delicious food with a creative menu that stands out from other restaurants in the area. Very friendly and attentive staff. The small entry bar area is loud, but the back "stable" room is more quiet and the patio isn't very noisy either (and beautiful when the weather is good).

    Went with a friend for my birthday, and it was fabulous! The patio is gorgeous, service was wonderful, food was delightful, wine recommendations were right on point. We talked and laughed and ate for 3 hours. Pure bliss.

    Iron Gate was a great experience. We went to celebrate a birthday and the restaurant did a great job celebrating the occasion. The drinks were amazing, and the first courses were all suburb. The main course was good, but not as amazing as we were expecting. The bison was a bit tough and my wife didn’t care for it, but with the menu changing regularly that wouldn’t stop us from coming back. Desert was excellent too. Overall, portions were good and the wait staff were terrific too. For a pricy meal, Iron Gate delivered a great experience and good food.

    I was pleasantly surprised with Iron Gate. I thought it would be overhyped but the ambiance, incredible food and attentive service made up for it. It is worth the hype and definitely the price tag. We did the tasting menu and while I typically leave tasting menu experiences hungry, I was stuffed after leaving Iron Gate, with leftovers to take home. Portions are much more appropriate compared to similar DC spots They also have great vegetarian options and mocktails which I was impressed by. I will be back to Iron Gate.

    Absolutely wonderful experience! We ordered the tasting menu which offered a fun variety of dishes that were both delicious and filling. We last went 5 years ago the night my husband proposed. We were so happy that our favorite items were still on the menu but incorporated into new dishes - the sesame feta and Greek honey donuts. The ambience is romantic but not overly formal. Perfect spot for a date night

    This was the worst dining experience I have had in years. The menu was limited to very few choices and after letting us decide on chicken gyros, we were told they had no chicken left and no other meat choices were offered as substitute. Ten minutes later the waitress returned to tell us there was no chicken available for the Cesar salads either. We then waited for over an hour to be served our meals without the waitress checking in to explain the delay. The manager never made him or herself known. Although we arrived at 1:20, we were not finished until 3:15 due to the extremely slow arrival of food. I could have been understanding if anyone had put the least effort into apologizing for the awful service and limited menu but nobody seemed to give a hoot. Huge disappointment after hearing good things.

    Great space, ambiance and food. Nice, short but inventive menu, beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. Service lagged as they seemed understaffed. But that did not taint the total experience. Will return.

    We did the chef's table and it was delish! And such a good value! So much food, we were able to take some home to enjoy again! The courtyard is such a wonderful space to have a meal. We will definitely dine there again!

    Another amazing dinner at Iron Gate! We had the same server as last time and he was fantastic; knew what wine we liked, had great recommendations for new ones to try…it just made the experience special for us. The outdoor patio is such a beautiful space as well, with the ivy and lights overhead, and the candles on the back steps. Definitely a must try if you’ve never been!

    The food is still excellent at Iron Gate. The wine list is unique and enjoyable. However, the overall experience felt a bit hectic, the inside room was extremely crowded and loud, and the service left something to be desired. It's gone downhill since the first time we went ~5 years ago for a romantic meal. I wouldn't consider this a go-to high-end date spot anymore.
