We love Iron Gate and have enjoyed many celebrations at this place. It is truly special and the food is delicious.
We waited at the front for about 5 minutes for someone to seat us, no one was there. The dress is not business casual- it is casual, so we were a bit over dressed (open table said business casual, hostess was wearing jeans).
I loved how the restaurant was strict about social distancing and wearing masks. All the staffs are very well trained with this situation and I felt really safe during the dinner. And the food was amazing, too!
Wonderful food and pleasant, attentive, careful service. We LOVED the roasted eggplant, the grilled octopus and especially the shrimp and crab orzo/risotto with saffron. Nice to know this patio can be warmed enough to stay open into the colder months.
Food was unique and delicious - very fresh and seasonal flavors. The ambiance is always great and special at Iron Gate. Their patio is like nowhere else and comfortable year-round. Beautiful space.
I was a little disappointed with iron gate this time.
First I called this restaurant twice to ask some questions about my reservation but no one was a available to answer my questions so I left massage both times but no one ever call me back.
The foods were way over priced and mimosas was a completely flat.
I don’t think I’ll go back to iron gate restaurant until things are back to normal.😞
The ambiance on the patio is borderline perfect. The seafood orzo was a real standout. Staff was great. Some dishes lacked salt.
Only complaint is that the service was poor, everything else about this place is incredible. I went with my friends (we are all in our early 20s) and I think they treated us poorly because we are on the younger side. We didn't even get out appetizers until around an hour after sitting down, and all the tables around us were being served. The food and ambience is 10/10, just would appreciate if they treated all guests the same despite age.
The iron gates interpretation of the rules surrounding Covid make it a highly unenjoyable experience and should be avoided at all costs. I have enjoyed this restaurant for many years and was unfortunately horribly disappointed. The atmosphere was as amazing as ever the service was positively abysmal. They require you to put your mask up every time they come to the table that would be fine if they came to the table fewer than 10 times unfortunately they did not coordinate this with their staff and we spent the entire evening putting masks up and down and being berated by an overly aggressive server named Kim
We’ve been going to Iron Gate since 2014 and have loved every meal since the first. Tonight was our first dinner out in DC since March (thank you quarantine/Covid). And what better restaurant to go to than our #1..Iron Gate. It was incredible. Safe, clean, romantic, delicious, special. Crystal was fantastic and the food was better than we remembered. Get the focaccia, autumn squash, gnocchi and shrimp and blue crab giovetsi .. you won’t regret it. Get a reservation ASAP and get a cocktail and bottle of wine. Treat yourself..you deserve it and Iron Gate will deliver.
Perfect in every way!
We were very disappointed in the ambience and type of food available. We had friends from overseas with us and had talked up the Iron Gate and it didn't meet our expectations. Understanding this was pandemic time, still nothing on website prepared us for this.
Absolutely amazing! Gorgeous space and the food was unique, seasonal and fresh! We really appreciated all of the effort to keep everyone extra safe (including their staff) and it encouraged me to return to support this restaurant again!
Great night! Thank you!
Beautiful setting, wonderful food and service; safety protocols were strictly enforced which made for a lovely evening out.
We have been living in the district for 8 years and nothing compares to this meal. It was incredible! No detail was overlooked and you can taste the love and passion in every bit. We can’t wait to go back.
The food was very good. The menu is short but all offerings are well thought-out and well prepared. The portions are small as would be expected for meze. While the prices are a little high for the portions, much of what you are paying for is the ambiance of the patio beneath the grape arbor. It is an idyllic setting - as close as you come in DC to an actual Greek taverna. Highly recommend for the food and the experience.
Amazing!! Such safe covid procedures and the staff was great! Highly recommend!
They were kind enough to move our table and cover the cost our drinks when it started raining. Always a pleasure to done here
Not the same place with all the COVID restrictions. Probably best to wait and dine here when all restrictions are lifted.
Food, ambiance, and service were top notch. We came here to celebrate our engagement and we were offered complimentary champagne and dessert to celebrate. Would recommend for special occasions and will definitely return in the future.
Its covid so I get it but staff seemed very nervous and uncomfortable which made us feel uncomfortable. Food was not good. Drinks were good but did not like that they wouldn't make ANYTHING other than the set menu even though they have a full bar. Seemed lazy. Will not be going back.
Not what we expected. Portions were ok, but, overall, meal was overpriced & then an obligatory 22% tip...?
The food was so delicious!!! They have a limited menu right now due to the fact that they just reopened. Outdoor seating
As always, the food, service, and ambiance were top notch. We felt very safe eating on the patio with staff wearing and other patrons when not eating/drinking wearing masks and lots of distance between tables.
Was our first time dining outdoors or out at any restaurant since COVID and man was it perfect—they had you put masks on whenever the server or bussers approached which I really appreciated because it shows me that they care about and want to protect their staff. The food was excellent, the eggplant looked like the cover of a magazine and the cheesecake was really special. It had grapes and spearmint on it and I’ve never had such a delicious cheesecake that felt light and springy before. The nikolaki cocktail is a ten.
Amazing food great service
Great spot for our anniversary dinner!
Amazing food and good service. Loved the atmosphere and would definitely go back again
Amazing ambiance, food and service - as always. Got the broccoli, gnocchi, eggplant and toast. Everything was amazing.
We ate during the Covid lockdown so we were outdoors on the terrace. The setting was actually very nice. They have a natural awning with trees and it was very comfortable. The food is small plates done Mediterranean style. We enjoyed the charred broccoli and the gnocchi with sausage, both were very good. The Greek beef skewers were pretty good but the shrimp and orzo would have been better without the additional spices, I think they had mint in there which just didn’t work. Their drinks were really good and they had a good Italian red for dinner. A good place to try if you like the small plate theme.
Had the most amazing experience at Iron Gate celebrating our wedding/honeymoon! Food was incredible, staff was attentive and helped us celebrate the special occasion. And of course the ambience can’t be beat. One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time and can’t wait to go back.
Rude hostess. Even thought we arrived well ahead of our reservation we were seated AFTER several people that had arrived AFTER us and were seated in the makeshift area by the entrance.
Wonderful tasting menu and we loved the ambience of the outdoor courtyard surrounded by grapes. The waiters were attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone wore masks and several hand sanitizer stations were available so we felt very safe.
Enjoyed a lovely brunch in the beautiful canopied courtyard. Felt very safe; special procedures carefully in place. Very well done.
Food was excellent. But: We weren't greeted when we arrived; had to look for assistance to be seated. Had to go to the restaurant's website to see the menu. Paying the bill was a disaster. They don't take credit cards and electronic payment didn't work with my android phone. Staff completely ignored social distancing and were all over me and my phone before reluctantly agreeing to take my credit card. Very disconcerting.
45 minutes into our dinner when the waitress told us the entrees were coming, the manager informed us that they had run out of my order. My second choice was also not available. The menu was extremely limited, and they had nothing else that appealed. All the manager could tell us was that he had only found out the kitchen had run out and, therefore, did not inform us earlier.
Iron Gate is not ready for business. Ruined a rare evening out. Depressing.
Wonderful outdoor terrace with sufficient umbrella coverage to make it comfortable in a light rain. Plenty of distance between tables. Charming, masked and gloved servers. Food was very good but I wished there had been a couple more entree choices. Not many gluten free options.
Such a lovely and elegant restaurant! Only thing was the table behind us got a special birthday celebration with candles and dessert when I noted in the reservation we were also celebrating a birthday but did not receive the same service. The host acknowledged the birthday but no one else.
This was the first place I've been where ALL the staff were practicing proper social distancing. Our server was great and recommended very good wines to pair with our food...which was all superlative. It was a lovely experience from start to finish!
