Hostess was extremely rude, but the rest of the experience was top notch
9:15pm reservation and we were seated close to 10pm, bartender was amazing and comped us a drink
Lovely dinner. Superb food. Wonderful service.
Get the grilled octopus if you can! We had the tasting menu, with chicken dine perfectly as the main dish. Who would have thought? This place does not disappoint!
Great food, but not a huge selection. A little costly as two small plates and no drinks was $30 with tip.
It was a treat to eat outside at lunch! The service and food was great. They did not rush us which was nice as we were catching up with an old friend in from out of town. I would recommend it to a friend and will return soon.
Wonderful experience. Service was perfect. great wine list
Ambiance!!!! Go here for great service, romantic ambiance and good food.
One star off because we arrived 2 hours early for a 915pm reservation on our wedding anniversary and they were so Slammed that we didn’t get seated until 945pm.
Walus at the Bar is wonderful. Order the merguez taco.
Did not acknowledge our anniversary, even when noted in reservation. Would not let us sit on patio, even with reservation. Food was okay service was attentive.
Great food and attentive, yet relaxed, service by Kevin.
A solid experience. Venue is incredible. Food is very good. Bar service was OK. Female bartender on Friday night was aloof at best, but she made great drinks. Server was exceptional. Food was good. Not overly ambitious but solid. Unfortunately, we ordered the lobster, only to learn several minutes later that they were out. We subbed rissoto and a salad. Both very good. A few additional comments: We did not try everything on the menu, obviously. We stuck to the fish and veggie dishes. I suspect the meat dishes are the better options (?). Again, very memorable and good experience. Solid wine list but wasn’t blown away by our $70 recommended red wine choice from Greece.
A solid 4 star experience. We had a very nice time.
This experience lived up to the reputation--- we loved it. The Iron Gate is our new special occasion venue!
Our waiter forgot to put in an entree order. So the entree that was delivered got cold while waiting for the forgotten one. They tried to make up for their error by bringing extra dessert and liquors.
Great space; very good food; noise level excellent compared to other DV restaurants; plan to come back soon from Frederick, MD
Great food. Surly service. Good ambience. Unusual and historic building.
Most of wines are Greek and Sicilian so expect to be surprised at taste and cost (not cheap). We were told these wines are best suited to the food. We would say they can make bigger margins on customers’ unfamiliarity with the wines.
Our waiter (didn’t catch her name but she was an African-American female with short hair) didn’t seem to know about anything on the menu, seemed upset when we asked a question about the gnocchi, and then rolled her eyes when my business colleague asked for the dressing for his salad on the side. Then she put the order in wrong and his salad came out with the dressing in the salad anyway.
Iron Gate is consistently one of the best restaurants in DC, bar none. Keep up the good work!
Anniversary, we were given complimentary “champagne” and a special dessert. Very pleasent experience!
Nice location on the patio. Indoors a bit dark! Food excellent, small dishes a bit biggerbthan tapas.
It’s a strange place. We had the mixed grill. Best thing on it...the potatoes! Not a relaxing experience as we had hoped. Somewhere a reviewer wrote it was “swanky”... nothing could be further from the truth. We will not return.
Outstanding, highly creative cuisine, expertly served by Claudio and gracious staff.
We came here for the tasting menu for our anniversary dinner. My husband was first afraid that we wouldn't get enough food, but that was certainly not the case. All three courses came out with 3-6 dishes for us to share and try. Everything was delicious especially the bison with salsa verde and the olive oil cake for dessert. Yum! Service was top-notch. They even brought out 2 complimentary glasses of champagne and another dessert to help us celebrate. Lovely experience, we will be back!
Great place for brunch. Among the four of us, several selections tried and all exceptional. Service was first-rate. The only change I would make is to lower volume of the music. It's hard to carry on a conversation.
This is the most romantic spot in DuPont with the best food. I love this restaurant - the service is always on point and the gnocchi is everything!
Truly amazing. Incredible food, the nicest staff, and the ambiance was gorgeous. It’s so gorgeous on the outdoor patio, my friend and I didn’t want to leave. 20/10, couldn’t recommend more.
So happy to hear you had such an amazing visit! We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Beautiful garden, lovely service, absolutely amazing ricotta gnocchi with a pork ragu! Can't wait to go back, it was/is a wonderful restaurant.
My dinner, fish, was a little dryer/tougher than I'd like and the sauce it was in was a bit salty. I'd return and
order something else. However, I had a delicious brunch there not too log ago. Good ambiance and service.
With only 3 indoor table occupied, we waited 20 minutes before server asked what we’d like to drink; ordered and food was okay but nothing special. We chose our birthday celebration based on reviews in Washington Post and EaterDC and were very disappointed.
Came here for a birthday and had a Spectacular experience. The mezze style plates are a little small so the cost adds up, but each item was delicious. The gnocchi is a must order and something I’ll definitely be back for.
I was in town for one night and chose Iron Gate for a special celebration. I had high expectations but was immediately turned off by the rudeness of the waitstaff. We ordered off the prix fixe menu - the appetizers and dessert were fantastic but the blade steak was beyond tough and chewy. Unfortunately, the lovely ambience was not enough to make up for the poor service and disappointing main course. I will look elsewhere the next time I visit DC.
Nice food . Sangria was really good all the plates so delicious
Creative and enticing brunch menu. Our server accommodated a separate check for part of our party to depart early, although service was somewhat slow.
Really wish they could have accommodated my request to sit outside. But great service and though the monkfish was underwhelming, the “restaurant week” tasting menu was an overall good value.
Good food, good service.
I came in with high expectations that were not met. Service was spotty. I had to ask for a side glass of ice THREE times. The food was good but certainly nothing special - and NOT cheap. Portions were small. There are too many other choices in town.
Excellent wine list, food, and service! I highly suggest the mixed grill plate- cooked to perfection.
Sat in the whimsical garden/patio area. It was the perfect place for a date night. Portions were just enough and our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Love the history behind the place and the overall vibe. There is a reason this place is so popular!
Had a great time at restaurant week and will probably be back for happy hour. The normal prices are a bit high, but I think there's a lot of good options and it's a very nice looking place.
We loved this restaurant's food and service during a prior visit, but this was a disappointing dinner. Service was slow, timing of dishes was poor (the wine arrived after the first dish), we had to ask several times for things and even though I explained we were celebrating a special occasion, there was nothing special about dinner. The food was very basic, not memorable and tiny portions. And the restaurant was sweltering hot inside. I would not return.
