What Insiders Are Saying
Iron Gate in Dupont is known for its prix-fixe dinner, but we like it best for drinks and a light bite.
The food and service we're excellent but the noise level was terrible.
I was in DC for a meeting and had a chance to connect with my son for dinner. He picked Iron Gate. Happy that we had the chance to dine there. Food was very good [wide variety, very nicely prepared and plated]. We enjoyed our dinner very much.
Service was a bit slow and not careful, but great food (think: small plates to share). Value is fair.
We went for a birthday brunch to celebrate my and my mother's birthdays. She and I are both avowed foodies and this knocked it out of the park. When something we had ordered was unavailable, they took strides to accommodate a replacement order and the food was absolutely fantastic. It was a touch warm to be seated outside, but worth every penny to be enjoying the shaded wisteria awning and ambiance of the little back garden.
We went for Sunday brunch and it was delicious! We sat in the courtyard and it has the perfect atmosphere for hanging out with friends over delicious small plates. Our server was knowledgeable and very friendly as well as the bartender and host. I accidentally left my purse when I left and they called me within minutes of leaving. We will definitely be back!
The food was very good and presentation was as well. Service was excellent! We sat outside and although its a beautiful patio, it was very hot with not enough breeze or cross ventilation. They had one fan that didn’t cover the majority of that space. Eventually it became to uncomfortable to stay for the dessert portion. Next time we would dine in their insde dining room during the hot summer months.
Unreal restaurant. Have been for brunch and dinner and excellent food and service both times. The patio has great ambiance to match as well.
Went here for our anniversary and had a just amazing time. Great food, great service, great ambiance. Couldn't have been happier.
Second time here and still great! Food is good, service is good, and good ambiance.
I think they need more fans in the outdoor patio area - it was a little warm ( I know, we didn't have to sit outside...) and a little buggy - which a few more fans would have taken care of that.
I love any chance I have to come to the Iron Gate, whether to meet a friend for drinks or for a fancy dinner. The staff is so gracious and welcoming, the space is so special and the food truly divine.
Had a wonderful meal! We sampled a few plates and every single one was really good! The flavors were well balanced and you could tell the ingredients were really fresh and seasonal.
The staff was super friendly and helpful but not over the top - just the right balance. They were also really good at making sure that our water glasses were always full.
We sat on the patio and it was beautiful! It was warm so the fan they had was loud, but not over the top. The ambiance was good and the tables were spaced well, you don’t hear the other tables and you felt like you had a good amount of space.
Very good food, very good service
Our waiter could no have cared less about our experience.
He not only failed to inquire as to how we were doing; he seemed offended when we asked for bread on which to spread Burrata. ...he also did not mention we would be charged $2 for 2/3 slices of bread. Don’t care about the trivial amount of $. I suspected bc we did not order drinks or wine he may have a bias...but who knows...
Very romantic setting and one of the best meals I have had in DC
Absolutely wonderful restaurant! Amazing ambience & food with very helpful and friendly staff.
We had the chef's tasting menu and it was incredible. Food, cocktails, wine, service, and the patio was romantic under the wisteria. I can't say enough great things about the flavors in the meal.
Absolutely loved this place. The ambiance is lovely. Great for a date. Solid food. The oysters tangier and the focaccia were both the best I’ve ever had. The service was as attentive. I indicated that we were there for our anniversary, and the staff bent over backwards to make it a special night. Highly recommend the Iron Gate!
Our second time at Iron Gate and we loved it. We made an early reservation so we could enjoy the gorgeous outdoor seating even more, since it was relatively quiet at first. However, even with a full house (which it was by the time we left) the atmosphere was never overwhelmingly loud. Because there are gorgeous wisteria and grape vines in a trellis above, it is cool and shady outside. Really lovely.
We enjoyed all of our small plates, but the most memorable dish was probably the grilled haloumi with stone fruits. A perfect summer dish.
It was our anniversary and they really were very sweet to us and made the occasion even more special. We will definitely be back.
Great little doughnuts served with honey. Ecellent brunch! Had a mimosa and a bloody mary to start. Great pancakes and the fried eggs and fried potatoes were excellent.
Iron gate was recommended and they did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I were extremely happy with the service and the food. Our server Bella was excellent. I live in NY and travel frequently, this rates at the top of our list. I will recommend this place to all my friends and family.
Enjoyed sitting outside under he vines!
The service that we received from our waitress was abhorrent. We received more attention from another waiter servicing the neighboring table than our own waitress.
Had a lovely meal at Iron Gate on a Sunday evening. It was very hot but sat outside on the terrace and had some respite from a large fan that they had positioned! Food was amazing. Had the mixed grill platter and one of the best my partner and I have had. Made all the better by an expert wine recommendation - who knew Greek wine could be so delicious? Will definitely return next time we’re in DC.
This is a perfect brunch spot! The courtyard is beautiful! I had the eggs in pomodoro sauce as well a some of the ricotta pancakes. They were both delicious!
Dining here is consistently a great experience.
We enjoyed a great meal at this top-notch restaurant. The Chef’s Tasting Menu with 5 courses was chock full of taste and creativity. The English Pea Soup and Grilled Scallops with pesto sauce and panzanella were particularly memorable. But the star of the night was the Wild Nettle Busiate. It alone was worth the trip. The wine pairings were carefully thought out by the Iron Gate team, and each wine worked perfectly with each dish. The table service was world class with knowledge and total professionalism. It is indeed an expensive meal with the tasting menu but worth every penny. Surely, it is one of the finest eateries in the Mid-Atlantic Region and a wise choice for anyone who loves great food, service, and wine.
The bartender and ambiance were good, but everything else was subpar. We were only in DC for the night, and I was hoping to have a great meal. We started with some small plates, which had a lot of potential but were over salted. We decided not to do a full meal after the couple behind us also complained about the saltiness. Save your money and go somewhere else.
Cute place but the service was kind of sub-par for that caliber restaurant. Frequently empty drinks; very little advice for ordering food or descriptions of the dishes; interactions with the server we're all very brief. If you are spending that much for dinner, you really expect great service. So that was a little disappointing. But the food was good and the ambiance was nice. And maybe our server was just having a bad night. It happens. We might try again.
The food was incredible and so were the drinks. I will absolutely be back.
While the food we had was delicious, the choices were limited and overpriced. The fireplace hadn’t been cleaned since last winter’s fires and there was a heavy unpleasant smell in the air. It was also in the mid eighties inside and another portable air conditioner should have been placed on the other side of the room where we were seated.
David C is incredible. His knowledge made our dinner soar above expectations.
I took a client to Iron Gate for a business lunch. We were seated outside, and really enjoyed that. The food was delicious, and we appreciated being able to share a few different dishes. Our server, however, disappeared for long stretches of time. When we did see her, she almost seemed to be purposely avoiding looking at our table. What should have been an hour 20 minute lunch stretched to 2 hours. No manager that we saw to speak to. All that being said, I would go back, hoping to have a different server. The food was that good!
Amazing! Our server was spot on with all her recommendations. We kept an open mind and shared everything. It was all delicious. I have never enjoyed cooked carrots. I could live off the ones we had that night and die happy. I've had gnocchi all over italy. These were the lightest little pillows of yummy I've ever had. The only negative was that it was a warm night and a fan to keep the air moving would have been appreciated. The occasional breeze helped quite a bit.
Very pleasant staff
Had a friend visiting from out of town, went for Sunday brunch. Incredible food. I want eight million more of the orange blossom yeast donuts.
I love this place yo
5 year anniversary celebration. The staff was so accommodating and made the meal very special. We look forward to going back again!
Enjoyed the restaurant under the original owner and management and find the new Iron Gate to be equally as good and better in a lot of ways. As it should be.
