As always, the food, service, and ambiance were top notch. We felt very safe eating on the patio with staff wearing and other patrons when not eating/drinking wearing masks and lots of distance between tables.
Was our first time dining outdoors or out at any restaurant since COVID and man was it perfect—they had you put masks on whenever the server or bussers approached which I really appreciated because it shows me that they care about and want to protect their staff. The food was excellent, the eggplant looked like the cover of a magazine and the cheesecake was really special. It had grapes and spearmint on it and I’ve never had such a delicious cheesecake that felt light and springy before. The nikolaki cocktail is a ten.
Amazing food great service
Great spot for our anniversary dinner!
Amazing food and good service. Loved the atmosphere and would definitely go back again
Amazing ambiance, food and service - as always. Got the broccoli, gnocchi, eggplant and toast. Everything was amazing.
We ate during the Covid lockdown so we were outdoors on the terrace. The setting was actually very nice. They have a natural awning with trees and it was very comfortable. The food is small plates done Mediterranean style. We enjoyed the charred broccoli and the gnocchi with sausage, both were very good. The Greek beef skewers were pretty good but the shrimp and orzo would have been better without the additional spices, I think they had mint in there which just didn’t work. Their drinks were really good and they had a good Italian red for dinner. A good place to try if you like the small plate theme.
Had the most amazing experience at Iron Gate celebrating our wedding/honeymoon! Food was incredible, staff was attentive and helped us celebrate the special occasion. And of course the ambience can’t be beat. One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time and can’t wait to go back.
Rude hostess. Even thought we arrived well ahead of our reservation we were seated AFTER several people that had arrived AFTER us and were seated in the makeshift area by the entrance.
Wonderful tasting menu and we loved the ambience of the outdoor courtyard surrounded by grapes. The waiters were attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone wore masks and several hand sanitizer stations were available so we felt very safe.
Enjoyed a lovely brunch in the beautiful canopied courtyard. Felt very safe; special procedures carefully in place. Very well done.
Food was excellent. But: We weren't greeted when we arrived; had to look for assistance to be seated. Had to go to the restaurant's website to see the menu. Paying the bill was a disaster. They don't take credit cards and electronic payment didn't work with my android phone. Staff completely ignored social distancing and were all over me and my phone before reluctantly agreeing to take my credit card. Very disconcerting.
45 minutes into our dinner when the waitress told us the entrees were coming, the manager informed us that they had run out of my order. My second choice was also not available. The menu was extremely limited, and they had nothing else that appealed. All the manager could tell us was that he had only found out the kitchen had run out and, therefore, did not inform us earlier.
Iron Gate is not ready for business. Ruined a rare evening out. Depressing.
Wonderful outdoor terrace with sufficient umbrella coverage to make it comfortable in a light rain. Plenty of distance between tables. Charming, masked and gloved servers. Food was very good but I wished there had been a couple more entree choices. Not many gluten free options.
Such a lovely and elegant restaurant! Only thing was the table behind us got a special birthday celebration with candles and dessert when I noted in the reservation we were also celebrating a birthday but did not receive the same service. The host acknowledged the birthday but no one else.
This was the first place I've been where ALL the staff were practicing proper social distancing. Our server was great and recommended very good wines to pair with our food...which was all superlative. It was a lovely experience from start to finish!
Looking for a romantic dinner or trendy brunch spot? Iron Gate is a one stop shop for food, drinks and atmosphere. If you consider yourself a foodie or you’re into craft cocktails, this is the spot. Not only is everything served fresh and vibrant, the staff is passionate about their craft and providing a stellar experience. The entire staff also took great care of us by following Covid regulations and we felt very comfortable with the overall cleanliness, distance of tables/customers and mask wearing. They have done a very thoughtful job of reopening and continue to provide an amazing dining experience.
Could not have been better- food and service were A+ and the covid protocols made me feel safe and relaxed. Can’t wait to return
Beautiful restaurant, taking many precautions to keep customers and staff safe. Service was great but the food came up short for us.
I love this place, and had eaten here for years under the previous management, since 1974. The new team has made it even nicer (albeit more expensive) but still one of the most romantic places in DC. When I heard they were trying a "popup" test of the COVID version of Iron Gate, we decided to give it a try!
First, their approach to socially distanced, contactless dining was superb; the very elegant menu was all online (as was a take-away menu of their mixed drinks); very well done indeed.
The menu was for the time being relatively limited and all around small plates but we tried four and they all were superb!!! (the gnocchi and the scampi were great, and the fried catfish was astounding - perfectly cooked!
If you are getting tired of eating with your mate around the same table and finding cooking at a high level increasingly tiresome, AND desire some romance (aren't we all...?) keep a look out for another such event and JUMP!! (AND order the Astoria to go; a terrific mixed drink in a bottle; kept the evening going...!)
Irongate is a great restaurant experience. The food is definitely 'higher level' cooking....something as simple as fried eggs is cooked to perfection and presented in an extraordinarily delicious way. The service was superb, attentive, respectful and knowledgeable without being overbearing.
Outstanding safe, social distancing brunch. The waitstaff patiently waits for you to put your facemask back on before setting or removing plates from the table. They thoroughly clean tables and chairs. This restaurant did an outstanding job. The four of us are all over 65. We appreciate Iron Gate Inn's attention to these type of details during this time. The brunch was excellent. The cocktails were excellent. We took some home. THANKS!!
One of the best dining experiences despite COVID restrictions. The staff have elevated contactless service and the overall result is a warm and delicious dining experience that assures the safety of the staff and guests. The staff was very polite and managed a fine balance between ensuring distancing and avoid contacts. The rules were clearly explained and diligently followed through. Kudos to the Iron Gate staff.
And the drinks, food and dessert was delicious.
Food and service were great as usual. It's always a little pricey and I felt the portions are smaller than what you pay for but it's always a great experience and the ambiance/environment is so cozy.
Lovely atmosphere and terrific food. Service was lightly awkward with the on and off of masks, but we knew that was the expectation.
Beautiful patio and delicious food
Great outdoor seating area and food is always delicious. They reinvent the dining experience
Food was amazing! Enjoyed my experience- has a great ambience
One of our first times back having dinner out, and I felt extremely comfortable with the way the staff handled our and their safety. The food and drink were also but a 10, and I'm excited to come again! So happy you're back.
Good overall experience. I understand wearing masks is important and there are varying profiles of risk tolerance amongst people but it went a little overboard at this restaurant, especially considering it was outside. Every time a server or anyone approaches the table you have to put on a mask? And it's a tapas place, meaning they come quite often.
Upon arrival, the host wasn't particularly friendly - seeming to be more concerned about stating mask rules rather than welcoming us to the restaurant. Our server was really good, however.
Food was really good for what it was (Mediterranean) but really what makes this place is the atmosphere. There is not a more beautiful restaurant in DC...the ambiance and decor is simply amazing.
This was my second time here and as usual it was great. Food and service were great, especially during these times. Also, it was nice to be able to eat outside even during the storm because of the cover.
Most staff had a very bad mood. In addition they do not accept that you bring toddlers as children 2 years old or younger are exempt from wearing face mask as regulated by law and DC city rules.
We had a lovely meal with extraordinary service! Many thanks!
This was the farthest that we had traveled from home since March. Truly worth the trip😆
My wife and I had a great dinner at Iron Gate. Not only was the food spectacular and the ambience top notch, we couldn’t feel safer as the restaurant did an amazing job managing the socially distant protocols. The staff did a fantastic job and should be commended. Looking forward to coming back soon
As always, Iron Gate does not disappoint. One of our favorite romantic venues in all of DC. We are so happy to see them back open! If you've never been and you're reading this, you have to try the gnocchi.
This was my second time and I was so nervous because of COVID but the staff was EXCEPTIONAL. They were so prepared, so considerate, and honestly provided an astounding experience.
As always, the service, food and drinks were fantastic. The patio was lovely. Our safety was obviously very important to the management of Iron Gate as well as the safety of the associates. The attitude of everyone we had contact with was so positive and upbeat. We had a wonderful time.
Irongate is a beautiful restaurant. The cocktails are really quite spectacular. I'd recommend the "Just the Fig" if you're a bourbon drinker. The menu offers a variety of fresh and tasty options. We had the woodfire carrots, grilled octopus, and salmon bruschetta. All of them were divine. The restaurant also offers a great wine list. I would highly recommend.
Our daughter got married so we were celebrating. The servers were attentive, the timing of the dishes was perfect, as was the wine suggested by the sommelier. Nice experience!
Service was very slow at lunch although probably not the fault of the waiter who was attentive. I would’ve preferred to eat outside as most of the tables and chairs were dry by the time we arrived. Food was so-so. I had read a lot about the restaurant from Washington Post and unfortunately I was a little disappointed.
