Iron Bridge Wine Company - Columbia Ratings and Reviews
This was our 2nd time at Iron Bridge in under a month. My husband was looking forward to the rack of lamb, one of the weekend specials. It was Sunday evening, and they were out of it. I had the plantain gnocchi which I had and LOVED last visit. The first time I could taste the plantain and it was marvelous. This time the gnocchi were relatively tasteless lumps of ????. My husband ultimately chose the scallops which were fine, not great. His assessment: there isn't a large enough selection of entrees. My assessment: I'll be back but will be eating apps at the bar (the calamari and flatbread were great).
This is my second time here. The menu is small but still a nice variety. Very tasty fresh ingredients, and they support local farms. Definitely try the pork belly appetizer, and take advantage of the pre fixe Steak night special on Mondays. Nice ambiance, can get crowded quickly so make a reservation. Several wine flight options, and great glass and bottle selections. Waitresses are knowledgeable, with great pairing alternatives if you don't like what's on the menu. On my 2nd visit, I ordered a dessert to go, and they didn't give the accompanying ice cream. When I called from home, the manager gladly offered to mail a certificate for a free dessert which was a nice gesture. A nice gem off the beaten path of Columbia!
I’ve enjoyed the occasional Iron Bridge meal for years. The location is an ideal midpoint between Towson and Rockville, so it’s a good meeting slot with good food and ample free parking. The food is consistently delicious, served hot and with good service. This time, I noticed the prices. Most restaurants offer a good selection of lunch choices under $10-15, but here they were scarce in that price range. The service was attentive, but a little more invasive than necessary during a business meal. I am still very much a fan, and I’ll return as I would to the home of a good friend. But compared with previous visits, and despite the best efforts of a great chef, it fell short of expectations, not due to the food.
The restaurant is beautiful and has had consistently wonderful food and wine. However on the evening I brought my family there, the service was very slow. The restaurant was nearly empty by the time we got our check. We ordered the 3-course prix fixe meals, and had them box our desserts as it was so late. This was an aberration from previous visits, but it was unfortunately impossible to notice.
We have eaten here a few times over the years and left very disappointed this last time. We ordered the grilled brie for appetizer and while it had a nice flavor it was cold instead of melted which I didn't expect. The tuna entree was very good but the ribeye steak was over salted and disappointing. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert and it was frozen in the middle. This was a very expensive meal that was disappointing. The quality of food did not match the pricing.
We were a party of two couples out to have dinner together and catch up. Everything , from our wine selection through dessert with absolutely delicious. All four of us cleaned our plates. Our Waiter was super knowledgeable about very dish and assisted us with a wine selection, even providing us with an iPad to scroll though choices with descriptions of each. The food is all super fresh, tasty, interesting and creatively presented. We never felt rushed and our waiter was perfect in coming by as needed, without hovering or disappearing. Our total bill came to around $220 before tip, so it was a bit of a splurge, but worth every penny! If I had any criticism, it would be the lack of warmth and personality to the section where we were seated. It was the newer section of the restaurant, which, was ok, but lacks the warmth and ambience on the other side. All in all though ....a fun evening and truly impressive meal!
First visit to Iron Bridge. Had made reservations, but the reserved table was right in the doorway and on a major aisle, so we opted to sit at the bar instead. Matt, the bartender was excellent! Told us about all the special items of the day, and chose a perfect bottle of wine for us within the price point we provided. Will definitely go back again.
We arrived early for our reservations. Despite notably empty tables we were told by the hostess that we could not be seated before our reservation and that the bar was fully reserved as well. So we had to stand in this tiny crowded bar/restaurant holding our coats and dodging the wait staff constantly walking from the bar to the kitchen. It was miserable. Then when we finally were seated by the door it was freezing. The waiter was friendly but the damage was done. The room was loud as a large party seated nearby was over served. The manager came by and offered a glass of prosecco but we drove an hour to this place so one glass of wine standing at the bar was my limit. The food was very mediocre. The creme brulee was amazing..thank God something was. A disappointment to say the least. I will never ever go back.
Bottom Line Up Front: This is a good restaurant. We will return. We recommend it to others. Details: For an appetizer - the Gluten Free option was celery and carrot sticks - though initially an insufficient amount, more were provided when requested. The paper wine list is not the same as the iPad version so if you see something on paper - don't count on it being available. There was only one vegetarian choice for an entree - which was reported to be delicious. The Salmon entree was excellent. The wine recommended by our server was mid-range and very suitable to our dinner selections. This is a great spot for relaxed conversation with friends over good food & wine in a casual atmosphere without the pressure from servers to turn over the table.
Consistently good. I had the sea scallops with the oyster sauce. Wonderful!!! This the first time I brought my husband and I found the vegetarian selection disappointing. The menu on open table had the tofu and it wasn’t available. I want to keep coming but I need variety for my hubby.
My wine flight was delightful. And dessert, cream brûlée was over the top.
Our server was excellent and knowledgeable. A wow evening!
Because we arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation, we had to initially sit at the bar, where we had drinks and a wonderful appetizer (calamari). When our table was ready, the hostess escorted us to our a table in the main dining area. Our server went over the menu and specials of the day with us. Our entrees (my date had seared scallops with forbidden rice and I ordered Tuscan kale and plantain gnocchi) were served quickly and both were delicious.
The only thing that was less than perfect was the noise, but that was due to one loud party. I have been there before and the noise level is usually not high.
