Enjoyable but the food was not as good as it used to be.

The best as always! They even care enough about your experience to place a personal call the day after. Class act!
Oh yes, the food: I could easily eat my way through the appetizers and salads, but then that would leave no room for the pastas and other entrees?! Fresh, vibrant, healthy and reliable. I have yet to be disappointed.

Who are these reviewers who say the food here is inconsistent? We had another delightful meal at Insalata's with excellent food, professional service, and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Just great.

I was very appreciative that the Manager or ? thought to read my mentioning it was my husband's birthday. His dessert came with " Happy Birthday "written in chocolate. That was very very nice of the chef or whomever. Many thanks, Judy Stark

Hit or miss, I have had good meals and not so good meals. It was a hot evening and their air conditioning wasn't working. It made for an uncomfortable evening. The dessert was awful, pots d' creme. Sometimes they have great desserts, this night was off in many ways.

Been going to Insalata's for several years. Their fattoush salad was a revelation...fantastic. All their food is healthy and tasty. I've taken many people there and they all love it. You can also call up and get food to go which is a nice touch. Eating at the bar is great too. Wines by the glass are delicious. All good.

We had a perfect evening at Insalatas. Brought my sister and her husband, who both love food and are big cooks and live in TN. After talking about how good California cuisine is, we were hoping they wouldn't be disappointed. They weren't! The meal was fabulous. Everything was wonderful...loved the lamb cigar appetizers, flank steak, hazelnut ice cream dessert and nectarine almond galette. However what really put the meal over the top was the duck. UNBELIEVABLE! We all agreed it was the best duck we've ever had. And the waiter was kind enough to actually bring us a copy of the recipe!! Thank you, Insalatas, for making my sister's trip a memorable one.

Always excellent, although the duck breast was a bit over-salted. The fattoush salad was wonderful and my partner's lamb was perfect.

If excellent food is what you're after, this place dishes it up! Our meal was beyond outstanding. However, we had to wait 30 min. for our entrees, and the noise level andsitting on top of the table next to us (as a twosome) ruined our experience, at least somewhat.

When we arrived - early - to specifically give our credit card and gift certificate to be used to pay for our evening with friends - without a fuss at the table we were assured that this would be no problem. And it wasn't until the waitress accosted us as we were leaving to get a bigger tip. My husband had given a tip based on the cc amount and neglected to include the gift certficate amount - an easy mistake which we corrected but as it looked like we couldn't pay, our friends got involved and offered to chip in which is exactly what we were wishing to avoid - so it sort of ruined the evening for us, shamed us and left a bad taste to what would have been a really lovely evening. It was just tacky the way the waitress handled it.

Fatoosh salad is a special treat. Ahi tuna main dish was excellent.
But, chef doesn't know how to cook salmon properly and therefore it shouldn't be on the menu.
Service was very professioanl and responsive.
Nice surroundings.

Heidi Krahling's personal gift to Marin and San Francisco is a clean, spacious, modern Medditeranean restaurant. The best appetizer is the Portugese Cataplana - steamed clams in a spicy tomato sauce with chorizo - and it's consistently delicious. The menu changes seasonally, and the night we were there was the first for 2012's handmade pappardelle with English peas and chicken sausage. The flatiron steak could have been filet mignon, perfectly cooked to medium rare and tender throughout on a sparse bed of king trumpet mushrooms and fingerling potatoes, covered with a chimmichurri-like salsa verde. Dessert was Athenian Cream - a delicious panna cotta infused with thyme. Insalata's is always good, and sometimes perfect.

My wife and I had dinner here on Saturday. Table was ready for us when we arrived (nice!). The menu had changed since we came here a few months ago (also, nice). My wife ordered the Duck and I ordered the Salmon. Both were cooked to perfection and were delicious.
Really enjoyed the evening.

We live in San Francisco part of each year. I had a doctor's appointment in Larkspur (Marin County) recently and we ate at Insalata's afterwards. The food was fantastic as usual, and early in the evening the restaurant is quiet and peaceful. (I think it gets noisier later in the evening.) We discovered this place over 10 years ago and eat there whenever we get a chance to be in the neighborhood at mealtime!

We have been at least 5 or 6 times to Insalata over 15 years. The experience remains a very good one with fresh food (we had Ahi, Salmon, and Steak) with generous portions, very fresh ingredients, and a very nice ambiance with attentive but not hovering service. Only complaint would be that the wine list, while broad and good, is at least double retail. Desserts and coffee also excellent. We will return.

This restaurant seems have to lost it's luster in the four or five last months.
Maybe it's time for a new chef.

The food seems like it's "phoned-in". The pasta with rock shrimp had something like canned sauce over over cooked pasta. The shrimp was lost in the sauce so the plate looked like something you would eat in front of the TV

The mussels were anemic. A good chef would have left them at the market instead of smothering them in a heavy handed sauce. The eggplant fries were actually perfect.
I've been here many times and it seems it's time to find a new "regular" spot. Insalata's is too expensive to serve diner food.
