A bit of a mixed review. Location is great, rooftop view of Hollywood. Very limited menu so no "a la carte", only tasting courses. Food was good but VERY $$$$. And for what they charge, it should have been a life changing experience and it was not. Chef is talented and food presentation was great and you will try new tastes but it wasn't all the best. Our waiter was very good and super pro. I think his name is Charles. A dinner for 2 with a bottle of sake ended up at $500... So, overall good, but not definitely not $500 good.
We enjoyed our dinner. It's pricey for sure. I had the 12-piece sushi dinner ($120) and my husband had the Wagyu beef ($200). I thought the sushi was alright ... the Wagyu beef was much better, in quality, taste and quantity. The presentation of the food was impeccable. The service was attentive and just right in our opinion. We will come back for special occasions of course.
If you enjoy a Japanese kaiseki experience, then Inn Ann is an awesome place for you. Sit back an allow the masterful staff take you on a culinary journey.
If you are not prepared to have a curated meal, then it might be better to do your homework before going.
Not an inexpensive meal ($350 for the pair of us, which included one cocktail and one beer). But I would suggest that the total experience is one that is well worth it.
When we arrived the restaurant was pretty much empty and pretty gloomy. The personal was extremely courteous, borderline obsequious. We were explained that the menu was different from what is online. Ok. We were offered a few choices the cheapest one being $100. We were explained that there were many many courses in order to taste everything.
I had to put my foot down half way, as I could not eat anymore and they looked so sorry 😐. I have never been in a restaurant like this before, and been so amazingly courteously pressured to EAT. I terms of taste, neither my husband nor I were particularly impressed. This is a place for people who have a big appetite and are ready to pay to ... follow directions.
Food was excellent. Waitstaff very attentive. Decor was lovely. Outstanding experience. Chef catered the omakase to us, asking what our favorite fish was.
Great service as the staff were very accomodating.
However the sushi we're not very fresh and you can tell that the texture is not firm, and have been sitting at the counter for a long time. Did not expect this for the price they were charging
Beautiful, elegant ambience. Very friendly and attentive service. Excellent food especially the vegetable bowl and tempura which was superb! Just like in Kyoto. The fact that Sandra, the manager, was so helpful in customizing a menu to accommodate my dietary restrictions makes the dining experience very enjoyable.
Beautiful meal and surprise setting. Don’t let the Hollywood and Highland energy trick you into thinking it’s going to be crazy or loud. It’s quiet, sophisticated and fun. We had the omakase with pairing and it was worth every dollar and minute. We were there 2 1/2 hours, never rushed out. We were treated so well. And the food was beautifully presented and delicious. I was so full when I left and I couldn’t stop thinking about our multi-course meal all weekend. Nothing was amiss. I can’t wait to go again!
Amazing place that feels like you are in Japan, despite being in the center of the most tourist part in LA. We ordered omakase with wine/sake pairing. Omakase is not just sushi and seafood as we were treated to a wide variety of dishes, ranging from seasonal vegetables, tempura, grilled seafood and meat and of course sushi! Allow 2.5 hours at least if you do!
We tried this place on the recommendation of a colleague and had no idea this would turn out to be the best Japanese dining experience we've had in a lifetime.
Our experience here was nothing short of stellar.
The food, service, seating and view were all impeccable.
Definitely a go again as often as I can.
The ambiance is perfect for quiet dinner conversation, a welcome change from the noisy design of too many places these days.

Although the service and ambience were excellent, ultimately dining out is about the food.
All the dishes prior and following the sushi were excellent and thoughtful. There were unique, creative and beautiful presentations. Perhaps this made the sushi that followed that much more disappointing.
There was nothing exceptional about any of the sushi pieces. They were mediocre both in taste and presentation.
I would have preferred sashimi but the chef didn't even have hamachi (yellowtail), a fish commonly available.
The value of the meal fell short because the sushi was so poorly done.
Beyond amazing. Chef Mori and staff are so gracious and kind. The food is beyond outstanding. Each piece is a better experience than the last and the very first one was mind blowing. And the ceramics. I’ll be honest I came for the ceramics knowing I was going to have a beyond amazing experience and be served amazing food that would exceed my expectations yet I was still blown away.
Was very disappointed with the entire experience. Was so excited when I discovered Inn Ann. The photos and menu looked amazing. I booked the reservation through open table which showed their menu. Unfortunately the menu they have listed is severely under what the menu was the night we dined. Even though the prices were more than expected we opted for the Bima omakase which we were told was $200 but could be modified so it would be less- we opted out of the tempura dish and desert. Big mistake. We thought we were ordering a menu that focused on sushi and sashimi. That was a part of it but most of the fish in the courses was Japanese sardine (delicious but I don’t need 3 courses of it), clam, and uni. I love uni and it was delicious but again, 3 courses of it. My poor boyfriend absolutely hates uni and had to suffer through it. I believe the only other fish we got was one tuna course I they only had one piece which the chef gave to my bf. The quality was excellent but I wish it was more variety. The couple next to us got the 15 piece sushi and they got such a better variety. I am jealous of what they ate.
So our bill comes and they charged us $300 EACH!!! When we asked them about it they said the menu starts at $200- at NO point during the dinner did they say, now you’ve reached the $200 mark, would you like to continue? Luckily after we explained our confusion at the price they honored the $200 price. Still walked out of there paying well over $650 for a meal we were super disappointed in. I don’t mind paying for a great meal and experience but this was not worth it at all.
While the food and service at Inn Ann were excellent, I unfortunately dined there on a night when there was another party with two young boys who were noisy, crawled under the table, and ran through the restaurant. The kids' parents made little effort to get the boys settled, and the experience put a damper on what might have been a wonderful evening.
From the adventure of finding it, through desert, this was special, memorable, delightful. One of the best meals I’ve ever had.
INN ANN at Japan House is LA's best kept secrect! My husband I had one of the best meals out in long time in LA. INN ANN was the perfect combination of food, service and customer care. Tucked away in a corner on the 5th floor of the complex at Highland and Hollywood, one is immediately de-stressed by entering the quiet perfectly designed dinning space. The sushi was absolutely amazing...uber fresh, creative, delicious and Chef Mori Onodera's secret sushi rice unparelled. The personal touches, such as the use of plates made/designed by the chef and serving of sparkling sake from his hometown in Japan hightened the specialness of the meal.

He has worked at essential L.A. Sushi restaurants such as Matsuhisa on La Cienega and trend setting Katsu on Hillhurst in the 1980's.
Of course, he presided over his eponymously named Mori Sushi until 2011. "Retired", he made exquisite ceramic dishes for many noted L.A. très hauts restaurants. Then a short stint at Shiki Beverly Hills.
Now Chef Onodera plies his art at contemplative, zen-like setting of 隠庵 Inn Ann meanIng "hidden hermitage" which is a restaurant that emphasizes all things Japanese.

Great place if you want to have a talk without yelling across the table. Decent food with great ambiance. I was hoping that they can keep their old menu, which has some extent of customizability. The new menu is $100 for 7 courses. I was not a fan of the sea bass and sushi in my dinner.
Extremely over-priced, insufficient quantity of average size sushi platter for an exorbitant price,
partially based on use of antique trays and high-end china. The $125 bill for an appetizer, 10 pieces
of sushi, no drinks left us starved.
Terrific service as there was only one other person seated at the sushi bar. Requires $$$$$$!!!!!!!
The food was very high quality and excellent. Inn Ann has become our new place for celebrations. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. The view from our table was very nice. The noise level got loud when the restaurant filled up, I think it’s due to the concrete wall next to our table. Some sound absorbing material should help with that.
What a great and interesting meal! I don't like tofu, but I tried there housemade tofu and it was really good. I have always been hesitant to try eel, but it came in the tempura course, and it was really good. Great sushi course. Best cucumber salad I have ever had. When the desert course is offered get the orange pudding, it is wonderful.! There were many other course that were delicious and beautifully presented. Finally, matcha salt. Yes, matcha salt. It came with the grilled fish and I want to put it on everything!
Replicate an authentic unforgettable Japanese fine dining experience at Inn Ann without leaving LA. The hospitality. The exquisite food preparation and presentation. And the highest quality ingredients right down to the home made tofu and house made cherry blossom salt! Not to mention the most beautiful, comfortable, quiet dining room in LA with a magnificent view. Start at Japan House shop and museum on the 2nd floor and ask to be escorted to the dining room on the 5th floor. It’s tricky to find this hidden gem in the madness of the Hollywood Highland monstrosity. But entering the peaceful oasis after navigating through the chaos is part of the charm. Like finding your favorite sushi bar in the middle of Tokyo insanity. Since our last trip to Japan in August, we’ve been yearning for this exact experience. So grateful to have found it.
We were in the area and got lucky with a last minute reservation at Inn Ann. Enjoyed the Kaseiki courses and the lesson on wasabi root from Morisan. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the experience a lot. Would love to return to try a la carte...
Very disappointing. Not at the same level as other notable omakase dinners in Los Angeles (Yamakase, Urasawa, Ginza Sushi Onodera)... by a longshot.
Beautiful restaurant and delicious food. Pricey but a good value compared to other high end sushi bars. Can't wait to return.
It was an incredible and intimate experience. The chef is mesmerizing to watch prepare your meal. We were able to enjoy each course while he explained where and how he prepared them. Tried new dishes and fish that i have never had (needle fish, baby barracuda and amberjack were a few).
Pictures do not do the restaurant justice. It is a small and intimate space with a few booths and 6 spots at the bar.
Highly recommend for a beautiful, tasty and memorable night out.

We made reservations after hearing chef Mori's interview on Good Food w/Evan Kleiman on KCRW that morning. We had the tasting menu with the best sushi and sashimi I've ever had. Overall, a superb dining experience, from the food, service, tableware and ambiance. The attention to detail was amazing from the food presentation to the cherry blossom salt. Highly recommend!
This is our second time dining at Inn Ann. This is a very special dining experience in all respects - everything is wonderful - such a beautiful Japanese dining experience. Chef Onodera is fabulous - a wonderful person, artisan and cuisine master, as is everyone who serves the customers. We had a lovely time. We will definitely return to Inn Ann again and again. We are very glad and grateful that Inn Ann exists in Los Angeles. Thank you.
The sushi in particular may be the best in the city. Each piece is prepared with care and flavor. The salmon roe was marinated to perfection. Can't wait to go back!
We really enjoyed our family time here . Each course was amazing . We all had the 8 course meal . Wagyu with Uni was to die for. Especially loved the desert. Will make return visits for sure.
Great experience overall. The only downturn occurred before our last course of the $130 kaiseki menu. The A5 wagyu took close to 20min to come out, and in my opinion was a bit overdone. It was a flank cut, very thinly sliced, I would have expected a hint of pink in the meat. It was fully full brown. It was still completely edible, and tasted good, but it wasn’t the expected finish of the rest of the fine meal. I would definitely go back.
Mori is great . Loved seeing him again thanks to Yoshi Sano who convinced Mori to work for Japan House that yoshi now manages

Server was very attentive; food was very fresh and authentic kaiseki experience! Can’t wait to go back again!
