Met friends for a delicious dinner. None of us had been before. Beautiful decor, and the waitresses are all amazingly gorgeous! Lovely evening.
Little changed in the many years since it opened: exotic hostesses and waitresses, interesting food (too spicy as we age) and a great place to eat before the Public Theater.
Indochine was one of my favorite restaurants in the 1980's. Now, after thirty some years this unique French Vietnamese, offering delicious and inventive food in a beautiful setting is going strong. But, beware that service is sketchy, if you are not a regular, a certain downtown rudeness may have to be endured for a delicious meal.
While the service was excellent and the food delicious, the tab came to roughly double what I would pay in a restaurant of equal quality. "Scene" restaurants are always a bad value.
The place makes you feel like your really in Vietnam, tropical feels. Small, packed, cozy restaurant. Service wasn’t all that great, we got there at 8:35pm for a 9pm reservations we didn’t get seated till 9:25pm. Waiter took the orders and never came over to check on how it was going. When we ordered we told the waiter that no mushrooms since one of our friends is allergic - salmon came out with mushrooms. They need to be more attentive. Food was great! For appetizers we ordered the spring rolls, baby ribs, crispy shrimp. Entrees - roasted young chicken, duck breast, grilled salmon along with green beans and mixed rice. Dessert - roasted banana, Vietnamese steamed cake, pear wontons. For drinks - Singha, Lychee Martini, pomegranates margarita.
Fun great food
We hadn't been to Indochine in many years but we were going to the Public and decided to come back. We were greeted warmly and immediately shown to a comfortable table in the attractive large dining room. We started with spring rolls (very good) and crab cakes (average) and then shared spicy chicken (excellent) and shaking beef (outstanding). Portions are modest sized but we didn't leave hungry. With a glass of wine, tax and tip it was about $80/pp. We expect to return.
Food was good but nothing too special. Love the aura and the service is rly good. Friendly, tall, modelesque servers
We had such a great time!
Indochine has stood the test of time. Excellent food amid tropical ambiance. Only disappointment was service.
I 've been in Indochine forever , great vibe and peoples , the food always excellent , always a pleasure to go ... if you can find space :) !
Not the first time there and still love it! Their staff is efficient and delightful - food choices - Malaysian? - are unique and yummy from traditional pho to summer rolls and the most delicious fish soup - and across from the Public Theatre - location doesn't get better if you're spending an evening at the Public
Great meal. Attentive staff and reasonably priced.
Very hip... almost too hip. Very friendly and attractive front of house, but not especially attentive. Our server never came around to check in once order was placed and meals arrived. Drink order was refreshed though. That said, a big party arrived just after our order and server was probably a little overwhelmed. The restaurant was busy and loud. Not what I expected for an early (6:30pm) dinner on a Saturday. I would still recommend Indochine, but avoid the eggplant. Portions are modest, but the menu is generally very good. Had a hard time deciding... all the dishes look really good. Environment is more of a "scene" than we were ready for. We're a married couple - mid 30s-early 40s. Live in the neighborhood. Plan $80-100 pp + tip with drinks. Wine & cocktail menu is fantastic. Go for lunch and sit at the bar.
The food and ambiance were wonderful the staff were polite friendly but forgetful we had to ask for the drink menus twice and my boyfriend had to ask for a fork three times before he got up to get it himself
I've been there before with friends and liked it.
This time, my friend and I arrived pre-theater on Saturday night and were delighted with Indochine when we first came in.
But within a few minutes, there was a very long table of screaming/screeching women right in the middle of the floor. And I mean they were screeching at each other.
It drowned out and destroyed what should have a been a wonderful dinner.
For this kind of event, you should be putting a group that size in a private room.
Amazing flavors. Excellent service. Overall a great evening. With all of the outstanding restaurants in NYC this one is on our list of favorites
Beautiful people serving beautiful food. It's a wonderful place to dine abdominal enjoy a mel.
the worst coat check I have ever experienced which was a shame as dinner was beautiful
First of all, as soon as you walk in, it is quite beautiful, but then the aroma? For some it can be lovely but for our entire group, not so much. It smelt like a Florist Shop - HEAVY floral smell with way too many great flowers - overwhelming. But as gorgeous.
The food - some was great, like the apps, but the dinner not as great. The salmon did not taste quite right and we ate only a small portion of it and informed the server, but no reaction and to no avail.
Not going to be a repeat customer.
the crab cakes were divine to start with. we really enjoyed ourselves.
I went for restaurant week. The salmon entree was very average. Thebice-cream portion was tiny. The food is not as good as it used to be. I do not recommend.
We love Indochine! Great atmosphere and delicious food & drinks!
Splendid restaurant to choose during Restaurant Week -- we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food.
After walking past it for decades , I finally visited Indochine for Restaurant Week 2018.
I am glad that I did. The food was delicious and satisfying, and the service was terrific! For appetizers, I had the tofu salad while my sister tried the lotus. Mine was tasty, but hers was better. For our mains, I selected the spicy chicken and she chose the salmon. Both were really good, but I liked her salmon (it had an amazing char) better. We both went with the sticky rice for our sides (which were included at no extra charge). We also selected the same desert, a delicious slice of lemon tart. It was the perfect size and really finished off the meal beautifully.
I cannot wait to return.
I loved loved the wonderful atmosphere, the location, the kindness of the staff and the food was absolutely delicious. I’ll come back
Nice service and environment.
Consistently perfect. Incredibly prepared food, with a menu that is not daunting, but in fact, exhilarating. The decor and beautifully dressed waitresses transport you to colonial Vietnam, minus the political drama. Dimly lit and romantic is the scene here. Yes, there are larger tables for groups, but this is the place to impress your date. If you do not order the duck as an entree, you are doing something wrong in life.
Awesome food and good ambiance
The vibe was great. The service-level could be improved - we had long wait times to order our food. The food was good, not amazing. This is an awesome place to go before heading out for the night.
The food was good, but I've had equally good food at other Vietnamese places. The service was ok too
One of my NY favorites. It always delivers on quality, service and atmosphere. Wonderful food well prepared and the staff are extremely helpful and all gorgeous. The best bouillabaisse in the city.
Nice place. Nice people. Great service.
Food is good and tasty 😋.
Love the paper walls 🏝. It’s a place recommend for many occasion. Business, friends get together, romantic date.
Exotic and buzzy with delicious food and charming staff. A perfect spot for a fun night out.
Ambiance is super dated. Food is regular but not good. Service ok. Prices not do hi but the value is not good.
Excellent food and service. "33" beer is,excellent and can't really find it anywhere else.
The food was delicious, and the restaurant has a great feel. It's definitely going for a hip vibe and it achieves it. The staff is a little inattentive, and not really into the clientele, but they are perfectly nice once you engage them directly, but it's on you to ask for things. There are some really wonderful signature dishes, and I think this would be a great place to have your birthday. The value isn't bad either, and the cocktails were very good.
Reccommened by a friend who used to reside on Lafayette, her fave
Awesome in the true sense of the word, food was fresh ,clean and fragrant, the bouillabaisse was outstanding and enough for two smaller appetites.
My husband said it was the best food he has had on Manhattan island
Thank you Indochine!
Good scene and similarly looking crowd as always. We asked to cancel a couple of dishes which they said they would, then the check came and they were still on, and we asked them to take them off, and assumed they did and we didn’t check, and they hadn’t. Otherwise a good dinner, experience and time.
