been going for thirty years! Still great food and vibe

I go back to Indochine often and it never stops to amaze me.
one of the friend I was having dinner with barely touched her main course (not because there was anything wrong with it, but just because she wasn’t feeling well). Even though we reassured our server that nothing was wrong with the order or the food itself she took it off our bill.

Indochine is our go-to restaurant when we go to the Public Theatre. It is lovely, the staff is fantastic and they plan our meal so we're comfortable but out on time. Love the menu too!

We left extremely disappointed due to the service we received. We had been anticipating our visit to Indochine because it is a New York institution of the 80s but the service was AWFUL. We felt unwanted, so we wrapped our meal quickly and left. Would have stayed for several rounds of cocktails and desserts but our presence didn't feel welcome.

Food was ok but, have been there before and had a better dining experience. Wine list is very limited. Service was very friendly but was a bit slow.

Waited for over one hour 15 minutes for the table. And I frequent this restaurant and Sat was a bad experience. They booked too many large table parties and everyone stayed. A table for two was impossible. The waitress took the drink and appetizer and then forgot to take the main course even though we asked three times. In fact we had to find her to take the order. The food was from a hot table in the kitchen since it tasted dry and certainly not fresh. This place has been around a long time but they should be careful since the old timers who made the restaurant may not be back.

Delicious and creative dishes with great flavor and beautifully presented. We shared kale salad, grilled mushrooms, grilled eggplant , duck,Chilean sea bass.
Good timely service aware of out theatre timetable.

Great food, seated on time, hung at a table by the bar before hand and was very pleasant. Fun place, highly recommend!

While the food was good (not extraordinary), service was pretty terrible. From the greeting at the door... the guy couldn’t care less about my group of 5. You would have thought we were getting a free meal. It’s a shame.I use to go a lot more 10 years ago and the only reason I went now was because of out of town friends who wanted to try it... There are too many better options in Manhattan to settle for attitude with your dinner.

Good food and place! Service is week, there’s a lot to improve

My only complaint was that the service was overly solicitous. There were constant interruptions from everyone working there. The reservation allowed me and my guest plenty of time before curtain at the Public but we felt like we were being rushed.

Rude staff, cleared the table before we were done eating. Got the cheque, without asking for it, before we were done. Bad advice on portion sizes resulting in way too much food.

Beef salad and spring rolls delish. The red snapper looked disgusting. Amok so-so, disappointing compared to the real cambodian dish.

We went pre-theatre, so the place was almost empty while we there. The staff could not have been nicer or more efficient. And we even were treated to a celebrity sighting! The food is exceptionally delicious, just stops you in mid bite so you can sigh and feel sad that it will disappear. Just a fabulous experience.

Food was excellent. Portions are large-- suitable for sharing.

Met friends for a delicious dinner. None of us had been before. Beautiful decor, and the waitresses are all amazingly gorgeous! Lovely evening.

Little changed in the many years since it opened: exotic hostesses and waitresses, interesting food (too spicy as we age) and a great place to eat before the Public Theater.

Indochine was one of my favorite restaurants in the 1980's. Now, after thirty some years this unique French Vietnamese, offering delicious and inventive food in a beautiful setting is going strong. But, beware that service is sketchy, if you are not a regular, a certain downtown rudeness may have to be endured for a delicious meal.

While the service was excellent and the food delicious, the tab came to roughly double what I would pay in a restaurant of equal quality. "Scene" restaurants are always a bad value.

The place makes you feel like your really in Vietnam, tropical feels. Small, packed, cozy restaurant. Service wasn’t all that great, we got there at 8:35pm for a 9pm reservations we didn’t get seated till 9:25pm. Waiter took the orders and never came over to check on how it was going. When we ordered we told the waiter that no mushrooms since one of our friends is allergic - salmon came out with mushrooms. They need to be more attentive. Food was great! For appetizers we ordered the spring rolls, baby ribs, crispy shrimp. Entrees - roasted young chicken, duck breast, grilled salmon along with green beans and mixed rice. Dessert - roasted banana, Vietnamese steamed cake, pear wontons. For drinks - Singha, Lychee Martini, pomegranates margarita.

Fun great food

We hadn't been to Indochine in many years but we were going to the Public and decided to come back. We were greeted warmly and immediately shown to a comfortable table in the attractive large dining room. We started with spring rolls (very good) and crab cakes (average) and then shared spicy chicken (excellent) and shaking beef (outstanding). Portions are modest sized but we didn't leave hungry. With a glass of wine, tax and tip it was about $80/pp. We expect to return.

Food was good but nothing too special. Love the aura and the service is rly good. Friendly, tall, modelesque servers

Not the first time there and still love it! Their staff is efficient and delightful - food choices - Malaysian? - are unique and yummy from traditional pho to summer rolls and the most delicious fish soup - and across from the Public Theatre - location doesn't get better if you're spending an evening at the Public

Great meal. Attentive staff and reasonably priced.

Very hip... almost too hip. Very friendly and attractive front of house, but not especially attentive. Our server never came around to check in once order was placed and meals arrived. Drink order was refreshed though. That said, a big party arrived just after our order and server was probably a little overwhelmed. The restaurant was busy and loud. Not what I expected for an early (6:30pm) dinner on a Saturday. I would still recommend Indochine, but avoid the eggplant. Portions are modest, but the menu is generally very good. Had a hard time deciding... all the dishes look really good. Environment is more of a "scene" than we were ready for. We're a married couple - mid 30s-early 40s. Live in the neighborhood. Plan $80-100 pp + tip with drinks. Wine & cocktail menu is fantastic. Go for lunch and sit at the bar.

The food and ambiance were wonderful the staff were polite friendly but forgetful we had to ask for the drink menus twice and my boyfriend had to ask for a fork three times before he got up to get it himself

I've been there before with friends and liked it.
This time, my friend and I arrived pre-theater on Saturday night and were delighted with Indochine when we first came in.
But within a few minutes, there was a very long table of screaming/screeching women right in the middle of the floor. And I mean they were screeching at each other.

It drowned out and destroyed what should have a been a wonderful dinner.

For this kind of event, you should be putting a group that size in a private room.

Amazing flavors. Excellent service. Overall a great evening. With all of the outstanding restaurants in NYC this one is on our list of favorites
