INDO Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
I heard good things about this place and the garlic noodles sounded delicious so I was looking forward to visiting. Noodles were incredibly overcooked, the short ribs were dry, and one of the Martabak was spoiled (the other two were tasty though). We got the food MINUTES after ordering, which, combined with the overcooked texture of all plates, makes me think that these dishes were just leftovers hanging around.
The hosts and bartender were nice enough but everyone looked confused and harried, even though the restaurant was nowhere near capacity. We sat at the bar because even though I booked on opentable there were apparently no tables available, even though the restaurant was at 50% capacity. Not a problem, since there were seats at the bar and communal table. After sitting at the communal table for 15 minutes with not one server acknowledging us, we moved to the bar. I'm not sure what was going on-maybe it was just an off night but it seemed like the whole front of house needed a reset.
As I said, maybe an off night and I would be willing to try again (happy hour until 7 and looks like a great deal) but I hope things are together by then.
Great lunch specials and a parking lot so we didn't have far to traipse in the rain. Fantastic service and ambiance made it a wonderful day. Will definitely come back and highly recommend it to others. Very close the community center theater for a nice bite pre or post show!
I tend to visit Indo quite often, but tonight I had a terrible experience. When seated myself and another dinner guest discreetly requested to avoid a certain waitress as she has been rude on several occasions for no apparent reason. The hostess made it clear that she understood our request. We were given a different waiter and he did a fine job, however the waitress we wanted to avoid brought our food to the table and sat it down. Upon doing this, she very loudly greeted up and causes quite a scene as people at other tables stated look at her and our table with great confusion. Then she said that the kitchen/she had put something 'special' in our meals. Our whole table of people almost sent every meal back. This was a very very uncomfortable experience. We spoke to one of managers who seemed to understand the uniqueness of our experience but it will probably be a while until I visit this restaurant again. No one should have that experience after racking up a bill worth hundreds of dollars. (Note: every guest ordered a beverage and the black pepper lobster)
We had a great experience at INDO! Quality service, amazing food! Great for vegetarians! The staff was very helpful and pleasant. We sat outdoors under the canopy and it was a beautiful dinner. They even brought me a birthday dessert with a candle. The ginger chocolate cake was FABULOUS!
Took my mom here for her birthday and we had a great time! We started with the tuna tartare and roti prata. For the main course we got Chicken Bumbu Rujak and Garlic Noodles w/ Chicken. Everything was delicious - my favorite was the Bumbu Rujak. Their birthday cake is a ginger chocolate cake with mango sauce. Weird combo, but was awesome! Would highly recommend INDO and I'm sure we'll be coming back.
When I arrived at the restaurant, I told them that I had a reservation. They quickly lead me to a table and never asked me my name. I ordered two appetizers as my meal and the server never asked me when I wanted those. The food was very delicious, I was disappointed by the service. Then I got a message from open table saying that I didn't make my reservation.
I came INDO with my family and different friends several times. All of them loved all the foods and enjoyed a variety of East Asian foods. They have enough varieties to choose the appetizer, main dish, noodle, rice, and deserts. It's always hard to select the foods from a lot of selections. I recommend you to look at pictures posted in Yelp before you see the menu. This restaurant has inside and outside place to select. Inside is a little dark and not a good place to take a photo. Light on the table does not help much to show the face of your friend. Outside is a bit noisy and you can hear the voices from other tables.
My parents are from Indonesia. They really enjoyed the food. The whole family did.. Everything was extremely delicious, and authentic. We sat out on the patio for dinner. It seemed a bit quieter than the inside of the restaurant. Regardless the whole restaurant had a really lovely ambience. Outside on the patio there were heaters that kept us very warm. I also have to mention that the service was excellent. Our server, Andrew, was extremely professional and personable and observant. He was especially respectful and friendly towards my parents, which I really appreciate. We cannot wait to go there again.
Recommendations: Start with the Roti Prata and the sweet savory accompanying sauce. For a main course, the Bihun Goreng, Seafood Green Curry, and Lamb Korma are all fantastic options for a strong palate. If you desire something lighter, you cannot find better than the Pan-Seared Chilean Seabass. The Sugar Snap Peas are a great accompaniment to your dinner if you also desire something just a bit more. For the finish, I recommend one of their cocktails. You're free to choose here, but my favorite is the Dark and Stormy.
INDO's unassuming store front hides a vibrant atmosphere within. Anything you eat will exceed your expectations, anything you drink will only leave you thirsty for more, and any company you bring will be all the more enjoyable. Come to INDO - and have a ravishing good time.
An interesting menu, unusual variations on Indonesian and Thai dishes. Some of them quite tasty. We sat outside which is a nice area but much too close to El Camino Real and continuous traffic passing by, this traffic noise was bothersome to me. Lighting was too dark, had to get out my flashlight to be able to read the bill (it was still daylight when we were reading the menu).
I checked off Live Sports and Bar Seating on your list of reasons to recommend this restaurant for, I noticed two large TVs I didn't watch them and I noticed a long bar with barstools, I did not use them, others might find these items enhance their experience.
This was a fantastic treat. The food was fresh and tasty and arrived in a timely manner. The wait staff were efficient and polite. I didn't like being called a "girl" (those days have long passed) but the young "boy" waiter had good intentions. The beginning cocktails and ending dessert were good bookends to this delicious meal.
I was looking forward to dinner with friends at INDO last Friday. But sorry to report, however, that this was one of the most unpleasant dinners all four of us have ever had.
Lots of problems, but the worst part was the noise – we couldn’t hear each other and we couldn’t hear the wait staff. As the noise grew louder everyone in the restaurant had to yell to be heard, further raising the noise level. We were seated inside; it appeared that the table outside didn’t have this problem.
Other issues: Chicken Satays that were raw on the inside. This was pointed out the wait staff who didn’t seem to care.
Three of us ordered gin and tonics. When they drinks arrived we all took a sip and realized that something was wrong. Clearly gin and something, just not tonic. We also pointed this out to our waitress who came back and told us that something was wrong with the soda gun and we’d have to wait a while until they fixed it.
The other food we ordered was OK, but nothing special. This included the roti parata, the green papaya mango salad, the sea bass, eggplant, garlic noodles with crab, and spicy basil chicken (which wasn’t at all spicy).
With so many obvious problems and issues pointed out to our waitress I would have expected some relief on the bill. But, not surprisingly, there wasn’t.
I can’t think of a single reason why I’d go back to INDO.
One of the better dining experience we have had in many years. All started with the cocktails - excellent. Appetizers/salad - excellent. Dinner - excellent. And it all ended with a desert that we quickly finished. One of the few times where there was no leftovers to take home.
INDO is overpriced and unauthentic. This food is likely okay by Palo Alto standards, however it is mediocre Indonesian/South East Asian food. This food is simply unauthentic and poor attempts and Indonesian dishes. As a Singaporean, I would not recommend it unless you're looking for overpriced, unauthentic food. Moreover the restaurant service was... awkward.
Fantastic food, really enjoyed the dishes we ordered. Excellent salads, and glad to have several options to order that were vegetarian. A couple service glitches (waters removed and never returned to the table when it was the only thing being drank, etc), but attentive so we could ask for them back not too long afterwards. We did note on our reservation that we were celebrating a 40th b-day, wish that was acknowledged (it wasn't) and perhaps not sat right next to the very noisy bar as we were, but what can you do. Food was good, that was the main thing.
Very interesting evening dinner. The waiter was personable and also knew about the country that we were interested in---food from Indonesia. My only complaint was that the food was more sweet than was necessary. If you use fresh ingredients as Indo does, it is not necessary to make the dish too sweet. I think we all expect things to be sweet---but if the flavors of the ingredients are delicious, let's not lose them by adding unnecessary sugars or syrups.
It was a lovely restaurant to share food with friends!
I think this location used to be the sight of Strait's, a similar Asian restaurant serving Singaporean-Malaysian-Indian cuisine. I recognized the entrance and the lovely large patio dining area. Indo is a very suitable replacement: great food selections, including small and large plates, wonderful flavors, and nice presentation.
I wasn't very impressed with the service; though friendly and easy going, I found our server to be a bit too easy going. By not writing down our order, one dish served to us turned out to be the wrong type of curry. Then, this extra dish was not removed from our bill. This is simple carelessness.
I am so impressed with the atmosphere and menu, however, that I'd like to come back with my family. We are always interested in pan-Asian-inspired food, especially seafood, and I believe they will like this place.
First time to this restaurant, excellent layout comfortable options for indoor or outdoor.
Server is efficient and knowledgeable. Food is great had the lamb shank and short rib both are very tasty and tender and excellent value. The Roti was especially good, the sampler plate is ok.
Would like to have 4 people so we can try more things easy to have family style sharing of food.
This is a new find for us and we will definitely be back.
