INDO Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
This is a wonderful, hospitable place to experience Singaporean food. The roti with minced beef and the papaya salad were excellent, along with a Pad Thai lobster that was a succulent, exotically seasoned feast in itself. It all went perfectly with a nice. moderately priced New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list. The service was welcoming and friendly. It was good to see a waiter smiling.
Why is this one different than the ones in Burlingame or SF? The food just wasn't very tasty. Not awful.. just very average. Also had some problems with service... while friendly they were not attentive or generally engaged. Some specific issues: we overordered by a long shot (would have been nice to be advised of this by the waiter), no advisement of included 18% gratuity (I saw it on the bill but think it's common courtesy to advise that this charge has been included), and no kid friendly cups (a cup with a top that closed would have been nice). With so many good options, we won't be coming back.
One of our very favorites. It's all about the food. The roti appetizer is fantastic. Everything on the menu is delicious and service is very friendly. Presentation of meals is beautiful. They have both an indoor area and a patio - indoor is very nice, patio is OK but could use some visual upgrades.
It's been several years since we were at Straits in PA. The Mee Goreng was heavy with sauce that tasted like it came out of one of those cans of thick sweet & sour sauce - overwhelming tanginess and not flavorful taste. The Randang beef was of decent quality meat, but the meat itself was totally tasteless and the did not go with the curry sauce they had on the plate.
At these prices this in totally unacceptable. We won't be back.
From the moment I walked in I was treated with hospitality. I was waiting for someone and the bartender/manager helped me and was very nice. I will definitely dine here again. Customer service is a big deal for my job and family, we definitely will come back JUST because of the service.
We went there for a business lunch and will return. The food was excellent and the settings perfect for our French/US group.
We sat near the door to the patio which was a little drafty on that day. The food called spicy was not really spicy, other than that we all enjoyed the lunch.
We loved the tropical ambience of the outdoor seating area. We started off with cocktails and the ahi tuna tower which was delicious. We both ordered a salmon dish. Mine was steamed in banana leaves and had a sauce with red chili paste and lemongrass. I thought it was incredibly good. We also tried the chocolate truffle cake with gelato for dessert. The cake was warm with melted chocolate pieces and it was divine and beautifully presented. All in all, it was a lovely dinner and I'm sure we will go to Straits again.
This was my first time at this Strait's Resturant. WE arrived a bit earlier thanour reservations with no problem being seated. We had a view of the outside seating/dining area and were in awe at the size of the resturant. From the outside, not very appealing to look at. Inside is amazing. Furniture, atomsphere all calming and relaxing. Food was well prepared, the special Rib Eye Steak was cooked just as ordered. Wait staff very attentive and engaged in conversation easily with us. Will be going back if in the area again.
Having enjoyed our dining experience at Straits in Burlingame, we were excited about trying the Palo Alto location. However, the food and service were a disappointment. We had ordered drinks and a selection of small plates to share. Our server did not return promptly with our drink orders. Then suddenly, our drinks and all of our dishes arrived at the same time, to the extent that the entire table was covered in dishes with a couple of plates partially hanging over the table edge. Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not make up for it since all of our dishes were essentially bland. The bar area seemed very popular and crowded, so perhaps this is place is a better after-work bar.
Food was decent. Curry chicken was dry with little sauce. Papaya salad was too thick. Cuts of papaya and mango were so thick they took away the refreshing feeling of a typical papaya salad. After we got our food, I wished we had ordered something else as a popular dish exited the kitchen.
The food and service were good, but the setting was uncomfortable. It was a very rainy and stormy day and the room was cold (there seemed to be a draft) and the roof was leaking onto the upholstered seat next to our table. I've been to Straits on Santana Row and the setting is lovely, but this one was very run down. There was a large party in the middle section so perhaps they had moved the regular dining room to a little used room, but it was uncomfortable and embarrassing since I had made the reservation to meet with a client.
Sraits Cafe has had its ups and downs, especially the Palo Alto branch. Now it is on the up side. The food is great and the service is surprisingly good too. My favorites are the roti appetizer and the origami sea bass as the main course. I was here this week on a late February 2011 on a business dinner of four people and everyone was pleased. I have notices couples and even large groups in other tables. The ambience in the Palo Alto restaurant is quite plain, although there is outdoor option for the summer. It cannot compete with the santana Row branch in term of charm, but the food and service are jst as good - I ahve been in both locations within a week's difference.
