Opened in 2011, Indigenous has earned a reputation for being an inspirational and educational restaurant. For years, Indigenous has been known as one of America’s top restaurants, renowned for its passion for food, the community, and the planet. Indigenous’ menu of seasonal American cuisine changes progressively throughout the year based on peak ingredient availability. With a focus on sustainable seafood and the importance of aquaculture, we work closely with local fisherman, artisans, and farmers to maintain the highest quality. At Indigenous, we are always working our best to create a better food system. Owner Chef Steve Phelps has been a James Beard Foundation Semi Finalist for Best Chef South in 2014 & 2015, an Ambassador for Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force, and a founding member and Chef for the EDF Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture.

Indigenous lives up to its past extraordinary performance: great, cheerful service, great, inventive dishes, always delish and always beautifully presented and at a good value. A favorite of ours in beautiful downtown Sarasota. We both had rare tuna with a fabulous Thai curry. So wonderful.

Chef Steve has such a gift with his culinary skills and bringing all of the flavors together in such an amazing way! I’ll be back for a delicious meal every time I return! Service is always top notch as well! I’ve been dining for 10+ years here and bummed to be moving away. I will miss my time spent with Steve and this amazing experience every single time I come in.

Outdoor table on the side patio. Everything was absolutely delicious! The roasted mushroom appetizer had many flavors, the tuna with coconut gazpacho was a great combination and the huge pork chop was juicy. Excellent service. This place is still a winner!

Food and ambience were absolutely delightful. Preparations were original, creative, and delicious. Flavors and ingredients were all so vibrant and fresh. Kudos and a standing ovation to Chef and Stall!

Great greeting at the desk, overall very good service. My pork chop was delicious but my wife’s shrimp dinner was not remarkable. If you have one thing, have the mushroom soup!

We saw a segment on YouTube – CBS Sunday morning “the dish“. I’m sure it’s a very old segment. We were looking forward to going there with two of our friends. We knew the menu was limited, but we’re looking forward to trying some new dishes. Our friend and I ordered the Hiramasa -yellow tail fish. It came out extremely dry and unable to cut it without using a knife. The witches did offer to take it back and we got the Arctic chard which was quite good. The music seemed to be loud before it were unable to hear our waitress when we were ordering. With such limited menu I don’t think we’ll be going back. maybe it was just an off night.
