Indian Road Cafe
In 2014 the restaurant welcomed NYC native Michelin trained Nicholas Wright to the helm. Using his training in New York's top Italian and nouveau French establishments, Chef Wright works to create a uniquely New York kitchen while staying true to IRC's philosophy of using only the best ingredients available.
Today the cafe's daytime offerings are simple, locally sourced American fare. The evenings showcase a more elegant menu highlighting Chef Wright's commitment to ingenuity and quality, featuring housemade pastas, charcuterie, breads and the only in-house dry aging program uptown.
It’s really a shame that the menu has gone to only a few pasta entrees. The options are scant and the wine list is just as dismal. IRC was the best restaurant in all of Inwood. Not sure what happened.
The service was super slow on a night that the cafe was maybe 30-40% full. This has happened now a few times in a row. We order a couple of salads and a couple of appetizers, which came out all together.
The menu keeps getting shorter and more limited, now dominated by pasta dishes. The cafe has really declined in the two years I have lived in the neighborhood. Really a shame.
Was one if my favorites for years. Might be the last time we go.
1) probably waited 7/8 minutes for someone to acknowledge we were even standing there.
2) made reservations no table ready. They threw a table or two together we ended up putting place settings where they belong.
3) some of us got menus some did not.
4). Sat there for 10 minutes. No water. No waitress or waiter it was like we were not there.
5) menu is ugh at best. Not what they advertise online at all.
6). What happened to this place !!!! It is just awful now.
6). Place has gone down so bad. Not worth going back.
Indian Road Cafe used to be something special, my last two visits were mediocre, at best. On one visit the chicken was overcooked to the point of being inedible, burger medium-well instead of medium-rare. On the second visit both the pasta and scallops were over-peppered so that the pepper masked the taste of everything else.
The waitress was unclear as to which beers were available and it was difficult to get her attention for things like bread, refills on water, the check, even though the restaurant was more than half-empty.
I won’t be going back.
The food was good. Turkey cooked to perfection. The stuffing was a bit too wet, but otherwise nice. The price (over $100 for 2) was far too large of a price point for a TG meal (all of which was prepared in large quantities in advance).
Love IRC. 3rd time there for dinner this week. Everything was just perfect as ususal.
Everything about this restaurant keeps me coming back. The food, the service, the location. Just a wonderful place. The carmelized Brussels sprouts were delicious. And you must get the lobster mac & cheese. It's to die for.
We eat here a lot. It's great, great neighborhood place. And certainly the best in Inwood. The food and service are always awesome. As close to fine dining as you would get up here, but in a wonderfully casual atmosphere. It's solid, dependable, friendly, everything you want in a neighborhood place. Just had their Oktoberfest menu and it was amazing. Sure, it can be a little pricier than what you might consider "neighborhood fare," but it's worth it knowing that everything is locally sourced. Plus, in the fickle NYC restaurant world, we want them to keep their doors open, so we're ok with a few extra bucks here.
Great food, great service, great time.
Drag Bingo at Indian Road Cafe is always a blast!
Great food! Great Atmosphere! Celebrated my wife's birthday and the staff could not have been more delightful!
Love this place - and it's in such a great location. We walk around Ft. Tryon Park and Inwood Forest and end the day at Indian Road - always a reliably great meal.
The food was great and the people where nice
Fantastic food, as always, in a fantastic ambience.
Our local and truly excellent value!
We have taken guest who in turn have recommended the restaurant!
I went there for Drag Bingo, which raises money for local organizations. It’s a great neighborhood place with good food, drinks and super friendly staff.
Amazing food & atmospher! Robert is a great jazz pianist!
A neighborhood fave! A great combo of casual and fine dining. Relaxed atmosphere, fantastic food, super friendly staff.
Outstanding food, comfortable atmosphere, and a piano player. A great place.
We've been coming to Indian Road since it opened - and it just keeps getting better. We love the welcoming vibe, the lovely staff, the selections from the bar, and of course the wonderfully creative food. Last time the duck prosciutto was the standout. We will of course keep going back...
The new spring menu is lovely, and the emphasis on local is appreciated. My rye pasta with mushrooms and crispy egg was sublime, and the beet salad with the hidden bottom dressing was delish. I'd make the trip from midtown again!
Everything was great! We were there for Drag Bingo. It was a blast. Very much fun for all ages. Food was delicious. Service was wonderful. It was a wonderful experience.
Could not make a small green salad as an appetizer. Only salad option was a beet salad, not my favorite.
Sort of a simple thing...
chef nick's new menu is very good. the service was, as usual, excellent. indian road cafe is a neighborhood treasure. without you, we would be lost in a sea of terrible places to eat.
The food was fantastic! The kale salad was good and I always love the lobster Mac and cheese. The wine was a bit pricey, but they had a nice French Chardonnay by the glass. We wanted to order dessert, but we were so stuffed by the generous portion of our entree! But overall, our dining experience was great!
We had not been there in a few months and the experience was as fabulous as ever. Great food, friendly atmosphere and service. A must go place!
First date for wife and myself after birth of our son
The menu has changed but not necessarily for the better. The service was somewhat distracted despite it being unusually slow that night.
Indian Road Cafe is a gem of Inwood. As always, great food and excellent service.
Delightfully diverse offerings creatively presented. A neighborhood gem!
Great variety of food. Everything from the bread and butter (both house made) to the entrees and bar bites was outstanding. Great service from Mandy. Very pleased with the experience!
At the very top of Manhattan...loved it. Right next to the water and park so go at lunch or before dinner!!
This was our favorite restaurant
The last 2 visits were not good
Burnt fish smell from the kitchen
The smoke alarm went off 3 times
The food was over spiced
This used to be great They need to polish up their game
Great place, awesome food that is selected & prepared with true skill & care. The staff is outstanding .
I love love love this neighborhood gem. It's my go to for all occasions. Everything about it is first rate and the staff is truly exceptional. Went there twice this past Friday with guest that were visiting and both times my friends were impressed by not only the food but the waiter, hostesses, ambiance. Do yourself a favor when you go, get the lobster mac & cheese. It's amazing!!
We had reserved a table on Thanksgiving for two, and needed to add a third the day before. IRC made it work.
There were 2 tables of two and one table of fourteen in one small area of the restaurant. The rest of the restaurant was empty. Seating is a little watt from the big group would have allowed us to hear each other.
This restaurant is truly a neighborhood gem. The service is outstanding and the food is delicious. Short and simple.
This is a great neighborhood place that feels casual and fancy at the same time. A real hidden gem up here. Wonderful food, great staff.
My husband's pulled pork sandwich and apple pie were delicious. My vegetarian special was terrible: some vegetables were overcooked, some barely cooked and the topping of broccoli rabe had inedible stems and too much deep fried batter. Good beer and wine list.
Great spot near park loved decor. Comfy. Dissappointed inavocado bacon sandwich. GF bread was small, grilled not toasted so it was gummy & wet. Yucky. Would not order again. Was expecting more vegetables in lunch selections. Not many at all. I will probably enjoy dinner more. Will give another chance. The chai latte was very enjoyable. You need more for GF vegan options & more cooked veggie plates. (With quinoa or other protein. )
