Imli urban indian food
imli was founded from a combined passion for Indian cuisine, which in turn sparked a desire to create a unique and memorable dining experience. As three self-professed foodies with discriminating tastes, though inspired by the vast amount of options in NYC, we've always had the craving for something different from our current choices.
A place where ambiance, service and cuisine are all treated equally.
All this in a modern atmosphere, where the charm of exposed brick, a partially open kitchen, full service bar, and outdoor garden seating enhance the already welcoming ambiance.
Just as in the Old-World Parsi cafes of Bombay, where patrons from all walks of life spent countless hours relishing the company of their counterparts and savoring the diverse flavors of India, we hope you will join us at Imli to do the same.

The food was just ok. We ordered 2 appetizers- paneer tikka and chicken malai. They were pretty bland - no flavor really. For main course the malai kofta was good.
The food is wonderful and the staff is very accommodating. One of our neighborhood favorites!
The food was good and spiced properly. Service was a little slow although it was not full that night.
Food was amazing! We do Indian quite frequently and were very impressed by the quality. It was delicious and not greasy. The service was great - didn’t rush us and we got a great table in the back. Wonderful Father’s Day and every day!
Good food, good service, pleasant ambience
The food was delicious and such original dishes. Appetizers are nice addition.
Fine cuisine as usual. Lamb and chicken entrees wonderfully tasty, chick pea samosa appetizer scrumptious and mango vodka cocktail exotic.
We've eaten here before. They made some changes to the menu and the food was even better. Great meal.
This was a first time my family & myself had visiting this place. Right from the ambiance to quality of food, we were pretty impressed and would love to come back again. They were very attentive to our group and made sure we were comfortable and all of our requests were taken good care of.
Overall food was good - we had the crispy brussels sprouts appetizer (although it's really more a side dish) which did not have much flavor, lamb rogan josh (my favorite), chicken madras (surprisingly good), naan and rice. Price was reasonable and service was attentive. Will definitely return.
Eclectic menu with delicious options, appetizers are varied (try the paneer) and entrees run the gamut from standard items to tasty unusual dishes. Great service, food served promptly. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We went here a month or so ago with work colleagues for a weekday lunch and we had a really good time! We were around 10-12 people and the hosts were very accommodating in handling such a big party. The hosts were really nice, fun to talk to and gave us really good service all though out our lunch. Their prie fixe lunch menu is really good and is good value for money since it comes with 2 appetizers, 1 entree and dessert at the end. Their goat biryani is to die for! One of the best I have had in the city and a must have. Must I add the Kheema is also very delicious. I have been here multiple times at this point and have tried a bunch of items. It has always been a good time! I love this place and definitely plan to visit here again.
Fabulous food!!!! The while experience was wonderful. I will be back.
Inattentive servers you have to flag down. Dry white chicken underneath more complex sauces which could be good.
Always a fantastic meal with attentive and welcome service!
Overall, the experience was fantastic! This restaurant has to be one of the best serving Indian cuisine in NYC. The dishes are authentic and flavorful without being too spicy. We had the mango mirchi margarita, which was awesome! In addition, the goat biryani was served beautifully and was excellent. The lamb vindaloo was authentic Goan stuff! Even the lamb keep was superb! Have to go back to this one, and keep going back
We came to Imli based on a recommendation from a friend. We spent 4 days in New York City and went to Imli 2 of the 4 nights. Once was just not enough. Fantastic food and amazing service. If you haven't gone to Imli, you absolutely should. If I lived in NYC, I would be a regular patron. I wish that they would open up a restaurant on the west coast.
Food was absolutely delicious and service was outstanding. Very reasonable prices and the lunch special is a steal.
not your typical same old menu. I have eaten here twice in the last couple of months. I've been to some nice places in India. Imli ranks!
Fantastic tasting food with great service. Highly recommended.
If you want to treat yourself with some real good Indian food, this is the place to go. One of the best Indian restaurant you can find in the NYC Area..
Great food and service
Used to having really good Indian food in London for many years, I was of course sceptical that I could find a good Indian restaurant in New York! However I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the food was at IMLI, only to be matched by excellent service. The portions were very generous and we ended up taking at least half the meal home! My only criticism is about the layout of the restaurant- one area (in front) is quite narrow and doesn’t have any ambience at all. The opposite seating area is better but spiked by the blinking and flashing of a giant tv screen (totally unnecessary). Unfortunately we could not sit in the nicest area of the restaurant which is at the back because this area was not open. I would return but only contingent on sitting in the back area.
There's a lot of good Indian food in the neighborhood but this is the best.
Cute little place with very good food. I will be adding this to my list of regular places!
Took too long to take order. Mango mirchi cocktail was too good where as imlirita was bit of a disappointment.
IMHO Imli is the best Indian Restaurant on the UES. A friend of mine from India recommended it and we've been going ever since. Food and service is consistently great. It's a nice modern restaurant. Doesn't get overly crowded and the level of noise is low enough to easily converse with people at your table.
Really good food and nice service. Just don’t go if you are in a rush! As other commenters have mentioned, it took awhile for the food to come out
We were in town for a few days and this place was in walking distance to our place. The food was delicious! Service was really good and we throughly enjoyed dinner. Our three boys did too. Wish we had a place like this in our home town!
Great ambiance, easy to get a table, kid friendly yet trendy. Food is great!
Dinner with friends and their one year old. Staff were so great with the kid!
A wonderful reimagining of the flavors and techniques we associate with Indian cuisine. Yes, there is curry, yes there is tandoor chicken, and a wide assortment of classic dishes, but the chef clearly is thinking about the western palate as well with much of the execution of these dishes. Hospitable, innovative, family friendly. If there is one weak link, it’s the wine and beer list. The food lends itself to bold and unconventional wine/beer pairings and here there is little opportunity for that. Only in this area, is this very special spot, not so special.... BTW, the garlic naan and the baby eggplant are must-haves.
Wow! Fantastic food and exceptional service. Had the karahi prawn, lamb and paneer tikka. Spice level was perfect. The quality of the food was superb. Just mouth watering in a place that has no dearth of good food choices. Will certainly return. Some of the best Indian cuisine this side of.... anywhere.
A friend of mine from India turned me on to this restaurant and I have been back several times since. It's become our go-to neighborhood Indian restaurant. Great food and service. Modern ambiance. Not too noisy.
Very interesting and tasty Indian street food. Quiet for Sunday brunch and nice family was in first room while we were in second room.
Very good authentic Indian food with good service. Owner came to the table a few times which we appreciated. Nice touch.
Staying in the city for a meeting at a nearby hospital the following morning, a couple of colleagues joined me for dinner at Imli and we all enjoyed the experience. The service was perfect, the food authentic and fresh and the outside seating was covered but clear which gave a great view of the buildings around us. I look forward to my next meeting and the chance to stop in again.
Food is excellent, the service was not good. Although the food came out quickly, the server was really not knowledgeable about the food. For example, when asked how many ribs come in an order - the server said "four or five," for a party of four, which is fine for tapas. Except the dish only included two ribs, which is not really great... Kind of tough to make three spare ribs work for four people. This restaurant is pretty expensive, and at this price point, that's kind of inexcusable. The portions are also a little small on the entrees, for how expensive they are.
Wow, wow, wow. Just superior Indian food. I married a Brit so I eat Indian, a lot. I’ve explored the famous Curry Mile in Manchester and eaten some nice Indian in London as well. None compare to Imli. It was simply superb. We shared 4 dishes ( lamb, pork, beef and chicken) between the four of us, and we all marveled at the complex but distinct flavors and the tenderness of each wonderful piece of meat. It may have been the best Indian meal I’ve had. Go and enjoy.
I think the lunch set is great value in upper East side. Love to go back again!
