il Sugo Restaurant
Amazing little gem. Fantastic food. Will be going back soon.
My new favorite!
Good food, great service, patio small but good for a couple but not large party. the filet pasta was amazing. Very nice servers and tried very hard to make sure we had a good experience.
Our food was barely warm enough to eat. The server did not check on us until we were done. The oil and balsamic containers stuck to the holders they were in. It is unlikely we will go again.
Excellent service at Il Sugo. The food was fabulous—we had the spicy sausage sauce and it was amazing! Their cream based sauces were also to die for! Unlike some other Italian places in downtown Boise, the food was reasonably priced and a great value with good-sized portions. We will definitely be back!
Nothing to complain about, just a first time visit. Felt more and tasted more like basic americano take on Italian food.
Ingredients and preparation were just fine. Not in same class as authentic cuisine you might have in larger cities with real competitors preparing more “toothsome” choices.
Just no wow factor, yet not a real complaint.
Nice restaurant. Very good food and attentive staff.
I went to Il Sugo for their Valentine’s Day prix fix menu. The food was delicious! Especially the sage cream sauce my fiancé had on his pasta. The dessert and caprese salad were delectable. The only issue was that there was only one waitress(as far as I could tell) at first. At 7pm on Valentine’s Day. So, we had to flag someone her for water and ask twice to get it. It took a bit longer than we’d like between courses. By the end of the meal, she had a partner and we got our check quickly after dessert. Overall, I will go back for the delicious sauce.
Such a beautiful experience - the food, the service, the location... all of it was outstanding. Looking forward to going again!
Excellent food service and we loved the character of the restaurant. Will be back!
AMAZING FOOD. I would have saved some for lunch the next day but I ate it too fast because of how delicious everything was.
One word. Delicious!
Very good and will dine there when in the mood for Italian. Good all around
A fantastic value for simple, rustic Italian food. This newer restaurant is still working out some teething issues, but the staff is friendly and attentive. The pasta is produced locally and was perfectly al dente. Appetizers were simple but delicious -- especially the bruschetta. The wine selection ranges from inexpensive (and so-so) to nice Chianti well worth the small upgrade in price.
The principale courses are selected by picking a pasta shape and a sauce. Be aware that at present, most of the red sauces (including the bolognese) have major elements of puttanesca in them ... olives and capers. Accordingly, many of the red sauces tend to taste the same. The sauces also appear to need some olive oil to bring them into balance, as the addition of capers and olives tend to make them a bit astringent. While it may depend on your personal taste, il Sugo would be well served by making each of their red sauces more distinct and less puttanesque. The eponymous "il Sugo" cream and mushroom sauce, however, is a fantastic as is.....but be prepared to take part of it home; it is that filling.
The meals are more than fairly priced, and this is likely the most inexpensive Italian fare in Boise for a nice downtown restaurant. A bit more polish to the development of the sauces, and a little more experience in the waitstaff and this could become a favorite dining spot! Well worth trying, and soon.
Everything tasted amazing! The bruschetta was fresh & i loves all the different components. I love the consistency of fresh pasta & the two sauces we got both were full of flavor. Our server seemed to be a bit new to the serving world, as she was a bit timid & not very confident in her knowledge but still very kind. The atmosphere reminded me of the slow moving european lifestyle I adore & was very inviting. My boyfriend & I agreed that it will be our new date night spot!
I love the atmosphere in this little local restaurant. I felt like I was in NYC. The food was authentic. The menu is limited to a simple Italian meal. Will go back again.
My daughter and I went here right after Christmas, based on the recommendation of a friend. Great suggestion! I liked the intimate atmosphere, great for conversation. The food was delectable, great wine, great service. I had pappardelle with puttanesca and a glass of montepulciano. I highly recommend this place. But make reservations -- it's small and fills up fast!
My boyfriend and I got engaged the night we had a table here. We had a reservation, showed up on time, got seated, was served bread and then literally had no one acknowledge us for 30 mins.
Great service and great food.
Excellent service and food
The food was amazing but the service was very poor. Nobody asked if everything was ok we never got water glasses filled and we waited 30 minutes to get our check. We really wanted some dessert but it would have taken another hour.
We went here for Dineout downtown boise and didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. It was quaint and cozy. The food was excellent, small but goid wine list. The owner/chef is very hands on and helped make the evening nice. Our server was so sweet but very scattered rushing us through our meal. We ordered an appetizer and it arrived with our salad, then the entree was out within 2 minutes. We sent the entrees back. It wasn't going to fit on the small table AND we wanted to enjoy our meal. The owner re-fired our dinners and visited our table several times.other than working out the timing everythibg was wonderful, we will definitely be back
This was our first time visiting il Sugo, and we were really impressed. We have already been telling our friends about it, and we plan to be back ourselves. The service was great, and our meals we delicious. Great job!!!!
Overall, this restaurant is good but not great. I ordered the Bolognese which had plenty of sauce, but not a lot of flavor. However, my husband had the Il Sugo sauce and it was very good. Our Caesar salads were dry. I do not like my salads oversaturated with dressing, but these tasted like there was nothing at all on them. The bread was just okay and we are probably the only ones that did not like the herb butter. It tasted like flavored mayonnaise. We opted to dip our bread in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Prices were good, but we would have preferred a better meal and paid a little more. Pasta dishes don't have to be very expensive to make at home, so I will probably continue to do that until we find some place in town that really reminds us of Italy!
We visited for a fancy dinner. The staff was great, the owner/chef stopped by to check on us, and even gave us a free dessert for our special occasion. We will definitely be going back. That being said, the combination of deli during the day/restaurant at night leads to a little bit of a goofy ambience; they may want to consider doors (saloon style, curtains, something) to separate off the “fancier” side of the house from the deli side. Regardless, the food was great and the value was incredible. We will definitely be going back, many times!
Three of us agreed that the food was outstanding, especially with a fairly recently opened restaurant. Overall, we were very satisfied with the dining experience.
This place was great. Cute location, food was very yummy and service was fantastic. We will be back.
Listen up, Boisians, or anyone visiting the area. The food lives up to the reviews! We were visiting our daughter for a surprise birthday and needed to find a restaurant for the night before the party. I had read the many reviews about the fabulous sauces, your grandmother's cooking, etc. I am always a little leary when I read too many positive reviews. The food, service, and prices were incredible. They should be charging more! Although the wine list is not extensive, they do have a couple of Chianti's that were very nicely paired with the red sauce dishes, and some whites for those going the cream sauce route. My wife had the Tartufo which was INCREDIBLE! I had the Bolognese which was very nice (I make my own so hard to rate anything higher than my own cooking!) Appetizers were shareable. Service was fantastic. Prices are far below what I would have expected. 2 appetizers, 4 mains, 2 1/2 liters and 1 glass of wine for under $100? Crazy!
