Loved the food
We had an excellent and fun server. The jungle juice cocktail and Caesar salad were excellent. The penne was mediocre at best. Would only go back for drinks and apps. Recommend dining in the bar area which is bright and inviting. The restaurant area had a funky odor and was not appealing.
The service was terrific and the wait staff were extremely attentive. We felt just a little rushed to order and then move to the next course. Presentation of appetizers, drinks and our meals was just right. The food was delicious.
We thought every single dish was delicious (Caesar salad, garlic knots, spaghetti with meatballs & penne alla vodka), and I can't wait to dine at Il Solito again. We sat in the Lounge this time due to Happy Hour, but I think the dining room seemed to have a more quiet, inviting ambiance. I hope Il Solito is successful, because I want to visit regularly for years to come!
The server was great. She made excellent recommendations for wine and entree.
Wonderful dinner once again for my brothers birthday dinner. Thank you to the amazing chef and staff who made our night a complete success! Will come back again very soon-
Great time super good food
Woohoo! Glad you enjoyed :)
Staff was great. Food was the best of the weekend. Great place to eat.
Awesome to hear! We pride ourselves in all those things. Thank you for the feedback. -Alicen
Enjoyed the atmosphere. However, despite calling specifically to inquire about dining here with a severe gluten allergy, and being reassured on the phone and by the waiter that the allergy could be accommodated, we were told the gluten free pasta is made on the same equipment as the regular pasta. The waiter then contradicted this statement by another staffer. From that point on, we couldn't trust the food. My friends ate quickly so we could go elsewhere for gluten free food. Will not be back and will certainly advise any one with a gluten allergy to avoid this place like the plague. Thanks to the staffer who was forthcoming about the contamination -- saved me from being very sick
Hi Jordan, Thank you for leaving a detailed review. I would like to clarify on the preparation of our GF pasta. It is made separately(not in the same machine as regular pasta), with no cross-contamination, and cooked in an individual pot of boiling water. We definitely take all allergies very seriously and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Please reach out to me directly if you have any further questions. We hope to make it up to you if you choose to dine with us again!
Our server Amy was fantastic. Monday wine special was excellent.
Dinner started off well with a very attentive server; we put in our order for appetizers and my 5 year olds dinner and the apps came out quick. It was a Saturday night and the place started to get busy and that is when things really slowed down. Our dinners took a vey long time to be served and only 3 of our plates (table of 5) made it out together. It took another 8 - 10 minutes before the last two plates were served and one of those was my daughters dinner. I had asked about my daughters dinner at one point while waiting for our food and the server was visibly annoyed and told me they were very busy; it was the kids spaghetti and meatballs, hardly a dish an Italian restaurant should struggle with. My daughter said the food was better at the Old Spaghetti Factory, and I wouldn't argue with her. I'm fairly confident I will never go back.
Hi Oski, Thank you for your detailed review, we definitely appreciate your feedback. We apologize for the lag in some of your entrees. We are a share style restaurant, so typically food comes as its ready and all our pasta is prepared from scratch in house taking a little extra time and love. If you do choose to come back and give us another chance we would love to take better care of you. Please reach out to our GM (Josh), or myself(Alicen), so we can set you up. Thanks, Alicen
Loved trying a new place in our city of Portland! Food was excellent - wine was delicious & service was great! Highly recommend this place!
Great food, fast service. Bolognese was hearty and filling. Budino for dessert was amazing!
We had a very mediocre experience. One of the ladies in the group ordered a lemon drop martini that was quite bitter. Eventually they asked how everything was and she sent it back. The appetizer that our server recommended as “life altering“ was OK, but nothing special. Basically it was an unstuffed montecristo. I ordered the linguine as my appetizer. It was good, but not a very large portion. I was still a bit hungry at the end of the meal. When I go back to Portland, I will not return to this particular restaurant.
Great food. Ok service. Great PORTLAND dining month experience.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for your feedback. Is there anything you can elaborate on with the service? We always appreciate hearing the feedback in order to address with our team. We hope to see you in here soon!
I was very pleased overall. Price point a little high, but it is a downtown venue. My wife didn't loe the marinara, but I was ok with it.
Dear Timrage, Thank you for your feedback. We value your review. We are happy to hear you were pleased with your meal. All our pastas are made in house and the marinara sauce is Chef's grandma's recipe from Italy! I am glad you liked it. Best, Alicen
Our waitress was very nice and the food was excellent! 10 out of 10 would recommend(:
Wonderful! So happy to hear you had a great experience. Would you mind giving us insight on who your server may have been? We love to recognize our staff for great service. Thanks, Alicen
The food was great and our server was super efficient! We had to leave for a show and he was able to accommodate us, perfectly.
Hi Michael, Thank you for your review. We love that you loved us! Would you mind describing your server so we can recognize them? We love to make sure our servers know they have been positively reviewed :P Best, Alicen
We had a table for 4 on a busy week end night. The wait staff was excellent and knowledgeable
And the service was paced well.
Menu variety is good and the preparations were all quite good.
Wine menu has great selections by the glass, as is to be expected in the Portland environment.
Pricing was appropriate and the price fixed menu had great selections for half the group.
Overall a place I would return to on a regular basis.
We had the Portland Dining Month menu and it was pretty good food with generous portions.
Great to hear! We hope to see you again soon.
Food was mouthwatering & service from Amy was fabulous...The TAGLIATELLE CHICKEN MARSALA made us wish we would have saved some of the garlic knots to get the leftover sauce & the pork ragu was amazing...The Osso Bucco fell off the bone just looking at it...Definitely, a must go
We spent the weekend at the Kimpton Vintage hotel, and Il Solito is the hotel restaurant. Open for about a year, according to our marvelous server. She was a delight, very attentive, knowledgeable and made the three of us feel at home immediately. I had the kobe steak, sliced thin and cooked medium rare on a bed of asparagus, with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts. All perfectly done.
My dinner guests both had the spaghetti and meatballs, made with hand ground beef and pork mixture. Excellent. The Negritos were stout and delicious.
Great night, not too expensive but not a casual price, either. We walked out with a bill of $193, that includes a 25% tip, which included drinks, wine and dessert. We'll be back.
Hi Alan! Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We really appreciate all your praise on the food and service. We take a lot of pride in what we do here. Happy to hear your guests were pleased as well. We look forward for your return soon! Alicen
Was lovely. I don’t drink. They had a lovely nonalcoholic beverage. Yummy food too!
Awesome! We are happy you enjoyed it. Best, Alicen
Checked it out to start dining month. Staff was very nice and no wait but food was disappointing. Soup was way to salty, garlic knots were dense, and the butterscotch bondi was grainy plus it too had to much salt. Chicken parm was decent and heathy portion.
Hi Gg PDX, Thank you for all your feedback. I am happy to hear your experience with our staff was lovely. We would have been happy to send you an alternative if we had known about the concerns with your meal. Next time you are in please feel free to reach out to one of us and we will be sure to take care of you! Thanks, Alicen
He calamari is the best we have ever had. The wait staff was professional and attentive. Good job Jackie!
Woohoo! Glad we exceeded expectations. Thank you for taking the time to review. Best, Alicen
One of the best servers I have ever met. She made my day.
That's awesome! It would be great if you could send us a description as we love to reward our servers on great service! Thank you for your feedback. Best, Alicen
Excellent service, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere!
So happy to hear you enjoyed your Valentine's Day with us! -Alicen
AMAZING FOOD!!! And GREAT SERVICE! I am so happy that this gem is in portland
Hi Sean! Thank you for reviewing us. We very much appreciate your feedback :) We hope to see you in here soon. -Alicen
A quiet and romantic dinner to celebrate our anniversary of getting married at Hotel Vintage Plaza! The server provided wonderful recommendations and the local wine list was everything we hoped it would be.
So happy to hear about your lovely experience! We are always happy to celebrate with our lovely guests. Hope to see you in again soon :) -Alicen
Excellent appetizers and entrees, decent wine list and a strong finish with desserts. The waiter was a bit too sales-y for our group's taste, but otherwise OK.
Hi there, Thank you for leaving us feedback. We appreciate you sharing your experience and hope to see you here soon! -Alicen
Dinner for four. 7 pm weekday. Quiet booth. Attentive service; restaurant about 1/2 full or less. Warmed-Olive appetizers; roasted greenbeans. One glass of barbera, and 1 bottle of decent Brunello. Rigatoni, fusilli, and a pork shoulder. Good sauces; everything was significantly heavy on the salt (our principal substantive criticism.) Pasta was good. Gelato dessert for 2. Given the overall availability of high quality Italian food in Portland, it was certainly OK, but not outstanding. Bill was $340 including good tip. Not great value -- many other restaurants have higher value for less money. We chose it for convenience for a long high-conversation dinner.
Hi John, Thank you for your honest and attentive feedback. We appreciate and take all our reviews in consideration. I am happy to hear you had great service as we pride ourselves in an amazing team! Next time you are in, let us know if a dish is not to your liking and we would be happy to replace it with an alternative. Thank you again and we hope to see you soon! Best, Alicen
The space is cool. The food is amazing but not intimidating. Tara was a top notch server. And chef Matt is a rock star. The penne à la vodka was perfect. The swordfish was superb.
Hi there! Thank you for your review. We love Tara and we are so happy to hear you had a great experience! Chef Matt definitely is a rock star. We hope to see you in here again soon. -Alicen
food was very average. Pasta dishes were solid. Desert and salad were oddly created and presented. atmosphere not worthy of the price point.
I overall enjoyed my meal at Il Solito. My server gave me my check as soon as I was provided my meal. The restaurant was empty so I am unsure what the rain was but it did make me hurry to leave.
Hi Tamie! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your meal. We are sorry about the check and will definitely address with our team. Thank you again and we hope to see you soon. -Alicen
We miss Pazzo. Not a fair trade. Surprisingly underwhelmed by both the penne a la vodka and spaghetti and meatballs - two classic dishes that just weren’t good, especially for the price. We’ll stick to Rosa Rosa, Mucca, and 3 Doors Down when we want Italian.
We went on a Sunday night and it was less than half full. Other patrons were quite loud but the staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. The food was heavy but delicious. The penne was a bit too salty but the spaghetti and meatballs, calamari and fried mozzarella were wonderful. I’d go back on a day I need lots of calories
Hi Rebekah! Thank you for your feedback. We are happy you had a good experience. The mozzarella sticks and spaghetti meatballs are some of our favorites as well. Thank you and we hope to see you soon. -Alicen
Their French Toast was lovely. Wish that their menu was more extensive. The best part was the beautiful Kimpton Vintage Hotel service and valet.
Hi there, We agree- our french toast rocks! Thank you for leaving us feedback on your experience. We are happy to hear your entire experience including the Hotel Vintage was awesome. We will pass along to our hotel team! Hope to see you soon! -Alicen
They treated us well for my wife's birthday. Great atmosphere and a fabulous wait staff. I highly recommend and will be headed back in the near future.
Hi Terry, Happy to hear we were able to help you celebrate a memorable birthday. We take pride in our wonderful staff :) Thank you and we hope to see you soon! -Alicen
Il Solito is one of those places that you might go to if you are between the ages of 40 and 65 and vacationing in Portland. Or you might go if you work downtown and and are entertaining a client from out of town to dinner and don't know much about the Portland food scene. If you live in Portland, you'll likely go elsewhere. Why? Well, Portland has a ton of great food, and walking into Il Solito just doesn't really feel like Portland. It almost feels like it could be a hotel bar. Like, this is the sort of place if I wasn't from Porltand but was here in town for a work trip, I might walk in and think 'what a cute bar!' and order a glass of wine and work from my laptop or something. But in the wake of amazing, unique and affordable Portland food, Il Solito feels a bit like an imposter. It's not bad, not bad at all. The beet salad was delicious and the spaghetti and meatballs had enough cheese to make even me happy. But it felt a little canned, a little stuffy. I wouldn't not go back, but I won't be racing here either.
