AMAZING FOOD!!! And GREAT SERVICE! I am so happy that this gem is in portland
A quiet and romantic dinner to celebrate our anniversary of getting married at Hotel Vintage Plaza! The server provided wonderful recommendations and the local wine list was everything we hoped it would be.
Excellent appetizers and entrees, decent wine list and a strong finish with desserts. The waiter was a bit too sales-y for our group's taste, but otherwise OK.
Dinner for four. 7 pm weekday. Quiet booth. Attentive service; restaurant about 1/2 full or less. Warmed-Olive appetizers; roasted greenbeans. One glass of barbera, and 1 bottle of decent Brunello. Rigatoni, fusilli, and a pork shoulder. Good sauces; everything was significantly heavy on the salt (our principal substantive criticism.) Pasta was good. Gelato dessert for 2. Given the overall availability of high quality Italian food in Portland, it was certainly OK, but not outstanding. Bill was $340 including good tip. Not great value -- many other restaurants have higher value for less money. We chose it for convenience for a long high-conversation dinner.
The space is cool. The food is amazing but not intimidating. Tara was a top notch server. And chef Matt is a rock star. The penne à la vodka was perfect. The swordfish was superb.
food was very average. Pasta dishes were solid. Desert and salad were oddly created and presented. atmosphere not worthy of the price point.
I overall enjoyed my meal at Il Solito. My server gave me my check as soon as I was provided my meal. The restaurant was empty so I am unsure what the rain was but it did make me hurry to leave.
We miss Pazzo. Not a fair trade. Surprisingly underwhelmed by both the penne a la vodka and spaghetti and meatballs - two classic dishes that just weren’t good, especially for the price. We’ll stick to Rosa Rosa, Mucca, and 3 Doors Down when we want Italian.
We went on a Sunday night and it was less than half full. Other patrons were quite loud but the staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. The food was heavy but delicious. The penne was a bit too salty but the spaghetti and meatballs, calamari and fried mozzarella were wonderful. I’d go back on a day I need lots of calories
Their French Toast was lovely. Wish that their menu was more extensive. The best part was the beautiful Kimpton Vintage Hotel service and valet.
They treated us well for my wife's birthday. Great atmosphere and a fabulous wait staff. I highly recommend and will be headed back in the near future.
Il Solito is one of those places that you might go to if you are between the ages of 40 and 65 and vacationing in Portland. Or you might go if you work downtown and and are entertaining a client from out of town to dinner and don't know much about the Portland food scene. If you live in Portland, you'll likely go elsewhere. Why? Well, Portland has a ton of great food, and walking into Il Solito just doesn't really feel like Portland. It almost feels like it could be a hotel bar. Like, this is the sort of place if I wasn't from Porltand but was here in town for a work trip, I might walk in and think 'what a cute bar!' and order a glass of wine and work from my laptop or something. But in the wake of amazing, unique and affordable Portland food, Il Solito feels a bit like an imposter. It's not bad, not bad at all. The beet salad was delicious and the spaghetti and meatballs had enough cheese to make even me happy. But it felt a little canned, a little stuffy. I wouldn't not go back, but I won't be racing here either.
A typical corporate restaurant sited in a hotel. I ate there because I it was convenient to a later event and I wanted to give it ba try but in Portland there is no reason to settle for places like this. We have so many superior local options.
I brought my family here for a special New Years Eve dinner. The food was outstanding, interesting and exceptionally well prepared. The kitchen is very well run, with the pacing on our multi-course meal spot in. The service was also very good. We eat out a lot in Portland and I think this place is really overlooked. The price point is a bit high, but the food stands up well against stiff competition in Portland.
Wish we would have been seated at a better table. It was not busy at all and they first took us to a table in front of the kitchen and then right next to a bus station. Lots of better tables sat empty.
We are vegetarians and as such often have a so-so restaurant experience. But this place was a surprise find for us. Supper was amazing. Great food and a great experience. There are so many great places to eat at in Portland, so we often don’t make a return visit to a restaurant. But we will definitely return here on our next trip.
We came to this restaurant for lunch on a weekday at 12:30. There were only a few other customers who dined at the same time. We started with the garlic knots that was nothing special. For main courses we ordered spaghetti and meatballs, clam linguine and turkey pesto melt. All food was tasty but a bit salty. Wine was not ordered but maybe would've balanced out the flavors. Service was slow but waiter had a great personality and provided suggestions for what to order. Portions are small. I'd consider trying this place for dinner but on the pricey side for lunch.
Pazzo used to be one of our favorite "celebration" restaurants. The food at Il Solito is even better - in fact every thing we ate exceeded our expectations. The kitchen makes broccoli that dances on the tongue.
We went here for a holiday dinner for six family members, one in a wheelchair. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. Service was excellent overall. Our food was very good and we had a diverse group of taste buds, yet all were satisfied. We will definitely return.
First family dinner in 5 months with our kids home from college. Fantastic pasta, very attentive wait staff, NYC type atmosphere, all a short walk to local theaters. We will be back again!
A poor substitute for Pazzos that once oppupied the site. We had lunch there and while it was O. K. that is the best I can say about it. Nothing outstanding came to mind and with that we would not return there.
A little disappointing. Servers were very nice. Food arrived too slowly, and was just ok
Great atmosphere. The food was excellent. We were early for our reservation but it was a happy accident as we got to enjoy the holiday pop up bar-Miracle.
My husband and I were visiting and craving pasta. After walking by earlier in the day we decided to book a reservation for dinner. Immediately we were welcomed with smiling faces and a warm cozy atmosphere. We were seated close to a bussing area, but it was fine because all the staff that stopped by engaged us and made sure we were enjoying our meals and drinks. Menu was full of options and everything looked delightful. I had the penne alla vodka, my husband had the ricotta ravioli - both dishes perfect portions and full of flavour.
Showed up early for my reservation, sat at the bar area. Sever did not communicate this to the Host. House HH cocktails were good but ordering a standard Moscow mule rather than the house version which had more ingredients rang up as $14.
Mozzarella sticks were good, but lacked salt. Garlic knots were solid. Spaghetti came out dry, needed more sauce, fresh pasta will absorb the sauce between plating and hitting the table. Meatballs were delicious.
Overall, below average service, middle of the road cocktails and food and high prices (2 apps, 4 basic drinks and an entree ran $100) would not recommend as there are far better dining and drinking establishments downtown for less.
My fiancé and I ate here Dec. 14th. Our server Cedar was great! He explained the menu and had some excellent recommendations for us. We had the radicchio salad, coccoli, ricotta ravioli and the chicken leg Marsala. All of it was to die for. The chicken Marsala was so tender it fell from the bone, the sauce and mushrooms were delicious. Everything was served with perfect timing! Beautiful restaurant. Multiple options for seating. This place is out of State for us but we will definitely come back.
Everyone in our party had an amazing experience. Our server, Tess, was awesome! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and happily answered all of our questions. The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. The holiday inspired desserts looked so good so we ordered them all and they did not disappoint! We will definitely be coming back!
Excellent meal for an amazing value while traveling with a team. It was a great choice.
Our server (Amy) was great! Very attentive and knowledgeable. Ambiance was nice - love the decor/style - but a bit on the loud side when not to full capacity. Food was good/OK - meatballs were a bit dense/dry, and marinara tasted overcooked. Caesar salad is delicious and the Hood River Sidecar was spectacular! Love a nice craft cocktail, but they are spendy. Disappointed in the seasonal dessert menu. Some gluten free options available. Overall OK.
7 pm on a Saturday night and already out of 3 main entree’s. Ordered Ox tail soup, came with no Ox tail meat other than a couple of shreds half an inch long. Service was good, nice pours. Nice wine list.
IF YOU OFFER IT ON THE MENU MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PRODUCT TO SELL.... POOR POOR KITCHEN. LEFT HUNGRY.
Very good brunch sweet and savory "toast" with eggs. Cocktail was the highlight. Refreshing and unusual. Good recommendation from the waiter. The room is fine, but they seated a couple very close to us, when there appeared to be many other tables free and available. That said, my friend and I agreed we'd go back. Will try dinner next time.
My wife and I had dinner here on a Thursday evening and it was not very busy. I was curious to see what this restaurant would be like as I had dined here when it was Pazzo many times and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Il Solito proves that change is not always for the better. What a disappointment. The décor used to be warm and inviting, perfect for an Italian dinner. I am not sure what the designer was trying to achieve but the space was not comfortable but rather cold. Music was too loud as well.
On the good side, the service was good and we were pleased with our waiter. That's it for the good side
I had the Cioppino and it was the the worst I have ever had. The shrimp was dry and the clams were so salty could not taste them. The broth was weak as if the ingredients had been thrown together by someone who has not made this dish before. Sent it back after 3 bites. My wife had the Penne Alla Vodka which she said was bland and dry as well. She did not send hers back as she did not want to offend the waiter. I asked for a Caesar salad to replace the meal I sent back. The salad had way too much dressing and was not at all crisp. Could not taste the anchovies as they were overpowered by the dressing. Instead of a simple classic salad this was lettuce that was chopped up fine swimming in dressing that obliterated the taste of all other ingredients.
All in all a very poor experience. I did receive a card for a round of free drinks on my next visit as an apology. There will be no next visit as I do not intend to return to Il Solito . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was less than mediocre and way overpriced. I would not be surprised if this place is not closed within a year.
We made a reservation and arrived on time - met2 other people. We were seated at a table in a separate section, but very nice. We prefer the main dining room. Everyone enjoyed their meal - pasta dishes plus calamari and a split salad.
Nice atmosphere and good service. If someone wants a nice restaurant in Portland then Il Solito is very good. They redecorated and the decor is simpler and maybe not as comfortable as before.
Exceptional food with excellent service and great ambiance. A gem.
Very Good Food! Great Service. And casual setting!
It was our son’s 21st birthday and our waiter, Harvey, did a fantastic job!

Biggest surprise I have ever got from dropping in on a new place. Loved it
Everything from the olives to the pasta was exquisite. Service was attentive and the dishes were thoughtful and plentiful!
