Excellent meal for an amazing value while traveling with a team. It was a great choice.
Our server (Amy) was great! Very attentive and knowledgeable. Ambiance was nice - love the decor/style - but a bit on the loud side when not to full capacity. Food was good/OK - meatballs were a bit dense/dry, and marinara tasted overcooked. Caesar salad is delicious and the Hood River Sidecar was spectacular! Love a nice craft cocktail, but they are spendy. Disappointed in the seasonal dessert menu. Some gluten free options available. Overall OK.
7 pm on a Saturday night and already out of 3 main entree’s. Ordered Ox tail soup, came with no Ox tail meat other than a couple of shreds half an inch long. Service was good, nice pours. Nice wine list.
IF YOU OFFER IT ON THE MENU MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE PRODUCT TO SELL.... POOR POOR KITCHEN. LEFT HUNGRY.
Very good brunch sweet and savory "toast" with eggs. Cocktail was the highlight. Refreshing and unusual. Good recommendation from the waiter. The room is fine, but they seated a couple very close to us, when there appeared to be many other tables free and available. That said, my friend and I agreed we'd go back. Will try dinner next time.
My wife and I had dinner here on a Thursday evening and it was not very busy. I was curious to see what this restaurant would be like as I had dined here when it was Pazzo many times and really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Il Solito proves that change is not always for the better. What a disappointment. The décor used to be warm and inviting, perfect for an Italian dinner. I am not sure what the designer was trying to achieve but the space was not comfortable but rather cold. Music was too loud as well.
On the good side, the service was good and we were pleased with our waiter. That's it for the good side
I had the Cioppino and it was the the worst I have ever had. The shrimp was dry and the clams were so salty could not taste them. The broth was weak as if the ingredients had been thrown together by someone who has not made this dish before. Sent it back after 3 bites. My wife had the Penne Alla Vodka which she said was bland and dry as well. She did not send hers back as she did not want to offend the waiter. I asked for a Caesar salad to replace the meal I sent back. The salad had way too much dressing and was not at all crisp. Could not taste the anchovies as they were overpowered by the dressing. Instead of a simple classic salad this was lettuce that was chopped up fine swimming in dressing that obliterated the taste of all other ingredients.
All in all a very poor experience. I did receive a card for a round of free drinks on my next visit as an apology. There will be no next visit as I do not intend to return to Il Solito . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was less than mediocre and way overpriced. I would not be surprised if this place is not closed within a year.
We made a reservation and arrived on time - met2 other people. We were seated at a table in a separate section, but very nice. We prefer the main dining room. Everyone enjoyed their meal - pasta dishes plus calamari and a split salad.
Nice atmosphere and good service. If someone wants a nice restaurant in Portland then Il Solito is very good. They redecorated and the decor is simpler and maybe not as comfortable as before.
Exceptional food with excellent service and great ambiance. A gem.
Very Good Food! Great Service. And casual setting!
It was our son’s 21st birthday and our waiter, Harvey, did a fantastic job!

Biggest surprise I have ever got from dropping in on a new place. Loved it
Everything from the olives to the pasta was exquisite. Service was attentive and the dishes were thoughtful and plentiful!
We had a fun experience! The food and specials were all great. We were disappointed with the dessert selections. Our service was on point. Our only complaint was that it took too long to get the check. Can’t wait to go back!
This restaurant was outstanding all around. It is like italian tapas
Italian comfort food but not really? The menu items are simple, like spaghetti and meatballs but the sauces are out of this world delicious. The service was like sitting at grandma's dinner table, just so welcoming, friendly and prompt.
Definite worth another visit when in town!
One of the best meals we gave ever had anywhere! Great service, fabulous food and nice ambiance.
This is a beautiful restaurant with a nice wide-ranging brunch menu. The wild mushroom omelette, while it had a nice texture, I was expecting actual wild mushroom, not tiny bits grated into the egg batter. That was a disappointed both from a taste and presentation standpoint. The brunch potatoes were crispy and excellent. Drip coffee left something to be desired, but the cappuccino was great even though it was served in a latte cup (unexpected at an Italian restaurant!). Service was mediocre- no coffee refills offered, requests like hot sauce, creamer, sugar, took longer than they should have considering the near-empty space. A table near us stood dirty for the entire meal. So with all the great brunch options in town, we probably won’t return.
It was alright
We really liked Il Solito! We wanted more traditional Italian food, not the fancy gourmet versions with exotic additions. . Il Solito did not disappoint! We sat in the bar area by a window with comfortable cushioned chairs and an overall enjoyable atmosphere! Our server, Jackie was super helpful with the menu and wine service, even let us taste 2 wines before deciding on the on the bottle. The Malfade Verde was excellent, past crafted and cooked perfectly, with a bold and savory bolognese sauce. My friend has the Fusilli Carbonara in which she said was amazing and perfectly portioned! Would definitely return!
Great location! The food was both things you were familiar with and flavours that were new and exotic. Our waitstaff was soliticious and available, and the location was busy but not so much that you felt crowded in. I definitely would go again.
Italian meets Olive Garden, horribly overpriced for the low quality of food
We went here for our anniversary dinner. From the very beginning, the hosts and waiters were all very welcoming. I loved the little personal card from the staff on our anniversary waiting at the table. They also brought complimentary samplers for us while we were checking out the menu.
The only downside was the salt level of the food. When we both got our pastas, the hand made pasta noodles were DELICIOUS, but the overall dish was way too salty for both of us. Maybe it just happened to be our dishes that we ordered.
The entire ambiance of the restaurant was lovely, and perfect for our special night together. I can't say enough how wonderful the Il Solito staff was that night. We'll definitely come back to try other dishes.
We had a nice meal, unfortunately our table location was not good, I suspect it was because we reserved with open table, it was right next to the kitchen window and there were other tables available. Food was good, service was fine.
In writing this review, I'm concerned I won't be able to convey the quality of my experience with words. With that said, my best friend of 30 years and I had a rare few days away together to explore Portland. I happened to have a gift card for Kimpton properties and found the restaurant because of the card. We arrived early and went to the attached bar Bacchius. Upon entering, I loved the modern eclectic vibe of the hotel. The bar is unique and inviting and had two well dressed gentlemen manning the bar. They were so exceptional with their suggestions and creativity. They made ordering cocktails so much fun. Unique, delicious cocktails!
We took our drinks to the restaurant as it became time for dinner. Our server was Amy. My god this woman is the best server I have EVER had...and I dine. Because of my work, I'm at restaurants a lot. This lady didn't miss a beat. She helped made perfect suggestions, made sure our table was attended but not overly. As my friend and I would get into deep conversations, we were never interrupted, but never missing a single thing. The calamari was the best I've ever eaten, olives, radicchio salad, linguini and clams, raviolis, halibut. All so good! She let us split, half order and share dishes without hesitation. We ended dinner with a small scoop of heavenly gelato and amaretto on the rocks. So good.
We had such a great evening and even went upstairs to play a game of pool as weren't quite ready for the night to end. This is a great place to take a date, have a business dinner, or just a great evening with a friend.
Food was mediocre and service was fair at best. Very noisy. Our waiter was not attentive.
We had a wonderful dinner here with our two young daughters, ages 2 & 5. The service was phenomenal and the food was good! The chef sent us out some of the pumpkin bread pudding for dessert and it was out of this world good! We had a very pleasant experience here (:
Loved our experience, very accommodating. My 11 month old is obsessed with carrots and they made her special carrots. I've been back for lunch with a work group and loved the food. Sounds silly but my favorite thing was the side of caciao e pepe brussels sprouts.
Food and service were fantastic. Held a business dinner for 8 here and was very happy with entire experience. Food was delicious with plenty of choices for everyone. Foodie enough to feel like a special dining experience and traditional enough to be satisfied with order. We ended up going family style and loving everything we tried.
Although the name has changed the quality and service has not. This menu is friendly for all types and is a gem in Portland with tasty hand made pasta.
Food was ok but great service.
I dined alone here during my stay at the Hotel Vintage. My server, Harvey, took excellent care of me and made wonderful food and wine suggestions. After my meal a dessert menu was presented. It all looked so good but I was so full. Harvey arranged for it to be sent to my room later that night. Excellent!
The service was great but the food was just mediocre. They say they are just simple Italian food but that is not the case. They try too hard to be different and it is not successful. Too spicy, too salty and nothing normal on the menu. Too bad, I want to love it.
Server was good, they did not offer pepper for any courses. Caesar salad was great after I asked for pepper. Linguini Del Mar had several small rocks in it that I think chipped my molar. I will see when I get to my dentist. The staff comped the entree.
The food was quite good. Portions were a little small for the price, but to be expected for a hotel restaurant in downtown. The service was really excellent- we had Nathan helping us and he was delightful. He handled our large-ish (8 people) work dinner well, and happily accommodated multiple dietary restrictions. He is what elevated our experience from very good to superb!
We use il Solito frequently for business lunches. Convenient. Reasonably priced. Quiet. Excellent service. The menu is more limited than Pazzo, the previous restaurant in the same location, but the quality is very good overall. Perhaps more important, our guests are generally very positive about their experience and meal.
Very good pasta and great vegan options. Nathan was great. A repeat.
what a disappointment. we looked at a 4.5 star review without realizing it was the former Pazzo space. they never should have made the change. the server was good, has worked there for 5 years, so knows the changes. She recommended the dishes. She suggested they are family style. We were seated at a tiny (I mean really tiny) table for two and I wondered how they would present a dish and then also provide plates for sharing. We both ordered a salad and then an entre to share. The salad portions were huge and thus unappetizing. We saved more than 1/2 to take home which we left on the table.
Then the entre arrived. Veal scallopini which was breaded, tough, tasteless and cold. Yuck! Accompanied by an order of garlic bread which was basically a toasted hot dog bun with a little garlic on it (we found out that their usual bread was not available that evening) They comped us on the food and suggested this was not ordinary and the food is usually so delicious and we should try again. (they also gave us a dessert to share which really was nothing to write home about) try again? Not likely. there are too many fabulous Italian eateries in Portland to risk another meal at iL Solito.
Food quality was poor. Pasta dishes did not taste good. Prices were very high. $160 for 5 people with bad food.
The best wait staff in Portland!
Food was excellent. Each entrée looked perfect! Service was great.
The food at Il Solito was excellent, all good and a couple of exceptional dishes -- the grilled octopus, the pasta with chanterelles, the corn flan dessert. The service however, was intrusive and obnoxious. We had a waiter who interrupted our conversation numerous times to ask us whether we liked some specific ingredient and who trumpeted the origins of everything as if he were a character on "Portlandia," and a busboy who twice commented on what he overheard us saying, as if he were part of the conversation. Was it because we were three older women? Who knows? Like most groups, we had come to the restaurant to enjoy a meal together, not to chat with them.
