Il Solito means The Usual, that one favorite dish you would get every time the family went out to the regular spot for dinner. Italian classics that just might become your new usual include veal piccata, baked ziti, tender meatballs over house made spaghetti, doused in our signature red sauce. Just don't ask for the recipe, it is a family secret.

Omg the good was delicious, it was the best Italian food I’ve had. Our server was so helpful and very nice. I loved everything
Il Solito has become close to our favorite restaurant in Portland for its delicious food and cozy ambiance. Everything we have tried on the menu in three visits has been deeply satisfying and memorable.
We dined here during Portland Dining Month. The caesar salad was yummy. Second course we chose bolognese and eggplant parm. The bolognese was mediocre. The parm that came was chicken, my companion decided to eat it anyway. He said it was also just okay. Dessert, a lemon cookie gelato, was tasty.
Food was delicious
Friendly ,attentive wait staff
Getting seated was quick and easy thanks to our reservation. The ambiance was comfortable and relaxing and food came out fairly quick. It was a very enjoyable experience.
It was fine. Food was a little bit salty and lemony(I know it’s on the menu) but it was strong slightly overbearing. Overall decent experience.
Food was tasty, nothing outstanding. Wine choices were very good. Atmosphere was more like a neighborhood restaurant than a downtown eatery, but it suited our occasion well. Waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. A very good experience.
The service, ambiance, and food was all very nice. My complaint is in the extra charge to cover the minimum wage increase. It is such a passive aggressive way to deal labor costs and is done only to make a political statement. It is tacky. Please just price your menu to cover the costs instead of slapping on an extra charge.
Great food and great service!! The most amazing Italian food I’ve had in a long time!
We were told that the 28 oz steak was great for $90. It was not 28 oz, was over-cooked and had spoiled spots which affected taste in a negative way. Overall food quality only fair and not worth the money. I can see why no one was in the restaurant.
We had a great evening👍🏻
Nothing terrible but also nothing outstanding. Food was good but nothing to write home about, although the garlic knots are some of the best I have had. Service was wonderful at times, but it also took them 30 minutes for them to clear our table after we were done eating. We came here for a nice meal before a show, gave ourselves two hours, but that wasnt enough time to get dessert.
Valentines
We ate early on Valentine's night. As we were going on to a performance we didn't linger, but the place was filling up fast. Our entrees were fresh, well prepared, and delicious. The wines by the glass were also very good - we didn't try the cellar wines which seem very expensive. Would be happy to return here for classic Italian dishes done well.
Great spot- food is terrific as is the wine! Service terrific as well.
Excellent food and attentive service. Loved it. Try the Caesar Salad and while you're there check out the adjacent hotel lounge which is super cool.
Better and better each visit
Always such fantastic service when ever we dine here
The food was amazing! Worth going downtown for! The lamb ravioli was the special of the night and probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
Some of the best pasta in Portland. House made, meticulous and delicious. Highly recommended.
We came to celebrate a Birthday. We had 2 children that were very well accommodated. Our server was fantastic. This was our second visit and hope for more.
We were out on a date night, and the restaurant gave us a corner table so we could sit side-by-side in a quiet section. Wait staff was superb -- timely and great recommendations. Food was delicious and portion size suited us both well. Go back? Definitely.
Food is delicious and a welcome brunch spot without the long wait times!
All our food throughout the entire meal came out at different times. Appetizers, entrees and even dessert. There were four of us. It felt odd that one of us would receive an ordered item, only to have five minutes or more until the next person’s item arrived.
Even with dessert... we were done with one item before the next item was brought to the table.
Otherwise everything was very tasty!!
Best osso bucco in town! The wine list was robust and the service was outstanding, I strongly recommend this restaurant.
Our server was great, super helpful and attentive. Food was delicious!! We will be back.
Great food. Great price point for the value. Will go again.
The server was quick and attentive. The lamb osso bucco was the best dish I’ve had, ever. I’ve been thinking about it since. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend.
Very friendly staff, everyone was really nice. The food was amazing, we all loved the fantastic garlic knots, would definitely come back.
I dined here with friends last weekend and was sorely disappointed in the food. Every single item we ordered had a major flaw to it (calamari was dry and tasteless, the prosciutto appetizer was well conceived but just poorly executed, the bone marrow seafood pasta was massively over-seasoned, lasagne had a weird basil crust and was burned, and the pesto penne was over-seasoned and had a bizarre flavor to it).
It’s such a shame that the menu was executed so poorly because I wanted to like this place. It has a great location downtown and I love what they did to the space. The service was great and the server was very knowledgeable and helpful regarding the menu options.
There is a chance that we went on an “off” night. I hope that is the case because if our experience was representative of the regular food standard, this place will be out of business before too long.
Food was good but did not seem worth the price we paid. Service was good.
New Year's Eve
We loved the food, service, and the overall of the restaurant. But be warned expensive and small portions.
The service was amazing, as was the food. We had a variety of food needs (vegetarian, gluten free) and all were not only met, but exceeded. It’s very hard to find gluten free pasta this good! We will be back! Thanks for a special evening before our show! My family are hard core foodies and they all were happy!
Overpriced food. Small portions. Hair found in one dish. Another dish arrived cold. Server was patronizing and indifferent when we informed her of the problems. Manager comped two meals but the damage was done. Do not recommend.
It was Christmas Eve, treating my parents to a nice meal for the holidays. We had only been once before, when Il Solito first opened. We had made a reservation. When we arrived and were seated at a table close to the front doors, we asked if we Could move to a different location, it was 515. We got a snotty answer from the hostess saying that they were 150 people that night. Well, we were one of them and I figured what difference does it make what four top we sat at? We didn’t make a huge fuss but it was very cold every time the front door was opened. My parents are elderly and it did affect them. Amy, our server was very good. The food just ok. We won’t ever go back because there are too many really great Italian restaurants in Portland and when the service started out negatively, that’s a deal breaker.
The food was delicious and our server, Tess, made sure everyone was well taken care of!
The pasta was made fresh, but we were not familiar with this and the server was unwilling to give us recommendations so I think our picks were not as good as they could have been.
Wonderful service, personal attention and delicious food!
I ordered Penne ala Vodka thinking it would be caper free. Sadly it wasn't. I am allergic to capers - I do not suffer from a horrific reaction - but still allergic to them. The menu does not indicate capers as an ingredient. Thankfully, I spotted them and was able to fish them out. I likely ingested one or two - which did no harm - but I would suggest the restaurant indicate if capers are in their dishes - they do for some but clearly not all. Absent that the food was great and the ambiance was lovely.
