iL Punto Ratings and Reviews
Had an excellent New Year’s Prix Fixe dinner
Choices were very good, everything was delicious, portions were big so I brought back lunch for the next day.Service
was excellent although we did feel there wasn’t enough breathing time between courses. We weren’t being rushed out but I feel the kitchen was rushing the service.
We have been there numerous times for dinner and will continue to go.Highly recommend .
I saw that Il Punto was recommended as a top romantic restaurant in NYC, so I decided to go on a last minute date there. Unfortunately, our experience there was not great. The waiter did not seem like he wanted to serve us and was not helpful with choosing the wine or the food. We did take his recommendation on the food, but it was not as great as expected, especially for the price. Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll return or recommend.
Multiple waiters who where very attentive - yet you had to ask for everything that should have been presented.
Not a big deal.
Food was good. Wife's lasagna outstanding. My Cioppini
Was good - fair amounts of seafood. Base could have been more zesty for me. Wine list was limited and on the higher prices side of the spectrum. The Meritage we had was good and they decanted upon request.
No desert. Complimentary biscotti was a nice touch. I'd return again.
Despite the hidden away location behind the Port Authority bus terminal, where one doesn't expect to find a gem of a restaurant, Il Punto delivers in spades. Most courteous, friendly and excellent service, deliciously fresh prepared food, especially the homemade pastas, but everything we ate was superb. A flexible and good wine list with an extended list of wines by the glass.
I selected iL Punto for itsconvenient location close to Port Authority for a business meeting. We ordered coffee and desserts. The selection was great. I ordered fresh fruits and cheese platter which was excellent. I will rerun there for a lunch or dinner next time.
We heard about this restaurant while we were on a tour of the Statue of Liberty. I asked the guide to recommend a good restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen, and she recommended Il Punto. It did not disappoint! We would recommend this place. It was particularly lovely, because it was decorated for Christmas.
We had reservations. We were greeted by the hostess who said our table had been taken by someone of my same name. Maybe they should check reservation confirmations? We were sat 15 minutes later... not a big deal, until they put us in the back room which had little to no ambiance and only a few other guests. Worst of all, the food was very mediocre (and that’s being nice). I chose this place because of the great reviews... but was very disappointed by everything. The people who said this place serves some of the best Italian food in NYC clearly hasn’t had good Italian food. My pasta looked like it had been premade and warmed up in a pot, then they threw mozzerella cheese on top that looked and tasted as if it had been microwaved. My boyfriend and I joked to make light of the situation and said Chef Ramsay would’ve picked up the cheese and thrown it at the chef. My boyfriends dish (chicken) was equally bland and disappointing. Plus, the waiter was awkward so that didn’t help the whole experience. The only thing I enjoyed was the wine because it got me tipsy so I could somewhat enjoy the night, but even that was highly overpriced. This place looks warm and inviting from the outside and in the first dining room, but it sucks. I make better Italian myself and definitely don’t need to spend $90 to do so.
We had a pretty good meal. The best part was that our table was ready for us as soon as we walked in the door! 5:30 reservations and 5:30 seating. The place was crowded but cozy. Our dinners were pretty ok. Our service was ok too. The only draw back was the distance from our theater but that was my fault- not the restaurant’s. We just were not super impressed. The tiramisu was yummy.
Oh my god...... can you get a refund?????
50 million french men can be wrong
after reading theOpen Table reviews something is amiss
the food edible at best tasteless at worst
off night because of saturday night and a party in the midst of the dining room
i doubt it the service was amateurish at best inattentive, ignorant, a cast of thousands ......
how many times do you have to ask for a paper napkin????
room was hot, noisy, and bustiling
Better to advertise restaurant as close to Penn Station than the Theater District.
this is one of the last remnants of the small Italian section of ninth avenue that has dwindled down to a precious few locales. I will not return.
Next time will read Zagats
Food was tasty, but could have been hotter (temperature wise). I ordered bowl of minestrone soup which was not as hot as it should have been. The same with the two cups of hot chocolate which were lukewarm. This was after traipsing around a cold, snowy day in NYC and looking forward to something to warm me up. I was a little disappointed because of that.
I have visited four times over the last year and a half and have been consistently pleased. The food is simply lovely and the staff are pros. Good value- not ‘cheap Italian’ just darn good-to-excellent, across the board. Idar was our waiter on this visit and he was attentive but not intrusive. Love this place and hope you do, too.
Food is very good but service is horrific and if there is a problem they don't care to try to make it right. My Fettuccine carbonara came out with out sauce - just noodles, when I sent it back nicely I might add, it took them 20 mins to get me a correct dish while my family enjoyed their dishes. They never offered an apology or anything, and it took us asking 4 times after the dish before I finally got it - when I did it was very good (when it finally had the sauce) but really to send out a dish without any sauce on it was amateur hour and the restaurant wasn't busy at the time).
