iL Punto Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations. We were greeted by the hostess who said our table had been taken by someone of my same name. Maybe they should check reservation confirmations? We were sat 15 minutes later... not a big deal, until they put us in the back room which had little to no ambiance and only a few other guests. Worst of all, the food was very mediocre (and that’s being nice). I chose this place because of the great reviews... but was very disappointed by everything. The people who said this place serves some of the best Italian food in NYC clearly hasn’t had good Italian food. My pasta looked like it had been premade and warmed up in a pot, then they threw mozzerella cheese on top that looked and tasted as if it had been microwaved. My boyfriend and I joked to make light of the situation and said Chef Ramsay would’ve picked up the cheese and thrown it at the chef. My boyfriends dish (chicken) was equally bland and disappointing. Plus, the waiter was awkward so that didn’t help the whole experience. The only thing I enjoyed was the wine because it got me tipsy so I could somewhat enjoy the night, but even that was highly overpriced. This place looks warm and inviting from the outside and in the first dining room, but it sucks. I make better Italian myself and definitely don’t need to spend $90 to do so.
We had a pretty good meal. The best part was that our table was ready for us as soon as we walked in the door! 5:30 reservations and 5:30 seating. The place was crowded but cozy. Our dinners were pretty ok. Our service was ok too. The only draw back was the distance from our theater but that was my fault- not the restaurant’s. We just were not super impressed. The tiramisu was yummy.
Oh my god...... can you get a refund?????
50 million french men can be wrong
after reading theOpen Table reviews something is amiss
the food edible at best tasteless at worst
off night because of saturday night and a party in the midst of the dining room
i doubt it the service was amateurish at best inattentive, ignorant, a cast of thousands ......
how many times do you have to ask for a paper napkin????
room was hot, noisy, and bustiling
Better to advertise restaurant as close to Penn Station than the Theater District.
this is one of the last remnants of the small Italian section of ninth avenue that has dwindled down to a precious few locales. I will not return.
Next time will read Zagats
Food was tasty, but could have been hotter (temperature wise). I ordered bowl of minestrone soup which was not as hot as it should have been. The same with the two cups of hot chocolate which were lukewarm. This was after traipsing around a cold, snowy day in NYC and looking forward to something to warm me up. I was a little disappointed because of that.
I have visited four times over the last year and a half and have been consistently pleased. The food is simply lovely and the staff are pros. Good value- not ‘cheap Italian’ just darn good-to-excellent, across the board. Idar was our waiter on this visit and he was attentive but not intrusive. Love this place and hope you do, too.
Food is very good but service is horrific and if there is a problem they don't care to try to make it right. My Fettuccine carbonara came out with out sauce - just noodles, when I sent it back nicely I might add, it took them 20 mins to get me a correct dish while my family enjoyed their dishes. They never offered an apology or anything, and it took us asking 4 times after the dish before I finally got it - when I did it was very good (when it finally had the sauce) but really to send out a dish without any sauce on it was amateur hour and the restaurant wasn't busy at the time).
We went twice during our 2 week stay and both times were fantastic! The team works together to provide smooth service, in particular Idar on our second visit went above and beyond! Food was fresh and delicious and I’d definitely recommend going here to anyone going to a show or even an event at MSG (which we did on our second visit)
What a great find - cosy but lively authentic Italian spot. Service was impeccable, wine list excellent, food absolutely superb. The tomato basil bisque amuse bouche - surprising and delightful! Antonio checked back several times during our dinner, and all the waitstaff did a wonderful job of keeping all sorts of diners happy. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening - thank you!
Pasta was excellent. Drinks and wine very good. Do not order seafood. Ordered the calamari and it was bland and every bite was fry oil. Sent it back. Special was sea bass. It had turned and was fishy. Could smell it before I tried it. Sent it back and got pasta. If you know
We had a fantastic experience at il Punto! The food was delicious, and the service friendly and prompt. It was my mother's birthday and I had two smallish children in tow, and they were friendly about accommodating us (and putting us in the back), and made it special with a candle in the dessert, etc. It was a wonderful meal and evening, and a short walk from Times Square! I will definitely be going back when I am next in the area. Ibar (sp?) and Isabella went out of their way to make the evening a great experience for us.
Food was good, not great. Kind of expected a little better quality of food than received. I was given several texts and a phone call to confirm our reservation which i found annoying for a 6pm. I mean, we booked through Open Table and confirmed, why do we need phones calls also and texts? We arrived very early and was seated.
We had a nice table by the window in the adjoining room for our business dinner.
The appetizers were fabulous (bruschetta, calamari and stuffed mushrooms). Everything was super fresh, and the stuffed mushrooms were filled with tasty crabmeat.
Our entrees came out hot and were equally as delicious, particularly the tortellinis filled with meat and accompanied by mushrooms.
Look forward to dining again at Il Punto when in Manhattan on business!
Had friends in from out-of-state who wanted real italian food and the reviews for this looked good so we tried it. We were not disappointed. Food was great, some classic italian with a twist, service was friendly and well paced. A little crowded which is why I brought down the ambience rating but not bad - just not special. My friends enjoyed, and it didn't have that commercial touristy feel - just felt like a great local restaurant. Would totally go back!
Came from out of town to meet my young niece and nephew here for dinner. We all agreed the food was excellent. Portions were a bit on the small side but were very tasty. My niece and I had drinks at the bar beforehand and the bartender was great. I spilled my sangria (talking with my hands!) and he graciously replaced it at no charge and minimized my embarrassment by saying it happens all the time. The wait staff were very attentive and gracious. They ask if you are going to a show that night and make sure you are able to leave on time. It is rather noisy but it doesn't really diminish the experience. I would recommend especially if you are catching a show and weren't able to get a reasonable dinner hour reservation at one of the restaurants right in the theatre district.
