Excellent restaurant and service.
We were thrilled with this neighborhood gem of a restaurant!
This is my favorite spot. I go here often and bring my friends and family so that they can experience the wonderful food, environment and Jazz Music.
Il Porto is a subtle gem on Washington Avenue in Brooklyn just at the entrance to Steiner Studios. The music that was being played as we entered, and indeed until we departed, was a mix of jazz sounds from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. Nice! The wait staff was caring, patient, and willing to give us time and space. The pizza we enjoyed had a delicious, light crust with very fresh ingredients. We also enjoyed a side of lightly sauteed spinach sprinkled with fresh lemon juice and sesame seeds. Yum! We plan to return again and again.
They had a live jazz band which was playing and they were very good. Their Margarita Pizza was delicious! Had food wrapped up to go and when arriving home it had my food and some other food inside never ordered. With all of that not considering to return.
The food was outstanding. All of our meals were served hot. Everyone on the staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Sunday lunch with 2 other families with kids. All food was very food, timing of food coming to table could have been smoother. Service friendly and attentive. Great space, plan to go back
Good food. Good service. I enjoyed my meal.
My wife wasn't a huge fan. Our dessert was great!
The food was great, and we loved the live jazz band (on the weekends). The minestrone was a nice mix of veggies, with a few beans and bits of pasta. It's a bit off the beaten path from downtown Brooklyn, but a short cab ride.
I wished I could have like Il Porto better. Wonderful ambience and attentive service. The food was solid but not great. The pasta tomato sauce was tasty but a bit dry and not bursting with flavor. Veal parmigiana was tasty but also a bit dry — almost over cooked. But solid!
Had a reservation. Took a subway and bus to get there and realized would be late. Called restaurant only to learn they were closed. No other restaurants anywhere close by. Total bummer, and my husband and I got into big fight about it on our romantic date night. I sure the family emergency must have been really bad to treat customers so poorly. I have heard the food is great here, but I will never know.
This restaurant was amazing. The food was incredible. But most importantly, the staff was kind and very accommodating. We had a large party for a 40th birthday celebration and they made it very special for us. The live jazz band was also outstanding. I can’t wait to go back!
Il Porto is our go-to place for ordering pizza when we have guests over. In our most recent order we received a card for a free bottle of wine if we dine in, which we did! Saturday night we went for dinner with my family and got a free bottle of wine, there was live music, the food was excellent. Will come back!
The posting at Open Table's website says it is 3-5 minutes from the G-Train. A more accurate time would be 10-15. As it was a cold day, this difference mattered to me. The food (a specialty pizza) and service were great. The primary mid-day business is business lunch. When we arrived the place was packed and noisy. A short while later, there were 2-3 tables besides ours that had customers and it was as quite.
Everything was amazing. The Penne Il Porto is fantastic and the bread they give you is so good. This is a great date spot. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic evening. Service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. There was even live jazz. Just great.
It was a wonderful place. Food and service were excellent. There were some very interesting specials. I am from out of town and this is a restaurant I would return to for a second visit.
It was a great experience included with a live jazz band and beautiful lighting and candles on every table
Amazing wood fired brick oven pizza! Service and people are great!
This was a great choice for us. The food was delicious, never-ending bread basket, a cozy atmosphere, and a manageable noise level so conversation was truly possible.
Dined early with our group of 12. Staff could not have been nicer, food was mostly terrific, nice wine selections, one of the pasta dishes (papardelle w/ mushrooms, i think) was ordered by two in the group, one was a little underdone and the flavors were a bit lackluster but the linguine del mare got raves. Great salads (arugula w/ lemon vinaigrette) and the grilled octopus was a winner. Focaccia was delicious, pizzas very good (Navy Yard and Margherita, Grandma). Can't remember the name of the dessert with the zabaione but several of us loved it. Great meal, will return.
Always a pleasure. Thanks Autumn!
Unbelievable find for us! We LOVED the restaurant - I was looking to go to a place near The Brooklyn Navy yard - and Il Porto popped up....the food was delicious! The pie dough delicious - fresh cheese ... I had a pasta with real crab - very generous with crab meat ... my husband ate veal sorrentino and said it was the best he ever had!
Food was good, service very good, but pizza was outstanding. Very nice place to have informal meal, cocktail or wine.
This is me and my husband's go-to spot for when we have guests from out of town. Our group of 8 had a wonderful experience, as usual!
Tasty food! Very large portions. We had lots of leftovers. Cheap wine by the bottle. Nice live jazz music!
Wonderful food and wonderful service. Cheesecake best ever had!
The food is outstanding, we think it is the best pizza in NYC. It is always consistent and very well crafted. Grimaldi's, Juliana's, and Keste are okay but always look like they are haphazardly thrown together. Il Porto's pizzas are lovingly crafted. The cheese is always evenly spaced, the toppings are abundant, nice basil and olive oil added as well.
I just wish the onions were sliced, which is how they always are in Italy, never diced.
It is always the owner in front and the same crew making the pizzas under his supervision.
We have gone several times with eight people. We love the band, it is usually the same musicians. The music is always exceptional jazz and blues and not too loud, and rarely ever do they have a singer, which is good.
Also the menu items are some of the best Italian food in town and the prices are astonishingly low.
In fact this has become the only Italian place we frequent. We have checked out all of the big names but Il Porto is the only place with the perfect combination of prices, quality food, and relaxed atmosphere.
I am referring to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Arthur Ave. (Bronx) in this review. It is almost more like a Staten Island or NJ place in terms of atmosphere, family run, etc. However Il Porto has much better food than any of the SI, NJ places we have been.
This place is a hidden gem! Having eaten at literally hundreds of fine Italian restaurants around the world (including places in Rome itself), Il Porto ranks in my personal top ten.
Very quaint place for dinner, food is delicious and great quality. Much get the Antipasti Misto - it will not disappoint. Service was great, will definitely be back to try other pizzas!
This restaurant was great! Our waitress was very kind and helpful. The food came out very quickly and was delicious, and you can’t beat the menu prices compared to other local options. Great service. Great food. Great value.
We enjoyed the staff who treated us really well! It was late when we arrived so there were only a couple other guests there. The Prosciutto mozzarella pizza was amazing, but the fettuccine dish with crab meat was fairly wet. Grilled mushroom appetizer is good, but a lot of mushroom without bruschetta or something else to compliment. Overall good experience, will likely return.
So I made a reservation for my bf's birthday and although we (our friend group) almost all came late to our reservation time, the workers there were so kind and patient wth all of us. The food was great and the location was easy to get to. It's definitely a place I will be coming back to!
Nice looking space but the food was a disappointment. Salmon was so overcooked it was inedible. Salads are huge but not well dressed. The grandma pizza was ok- very hard crust with very sweet tomato sauce lacking in depth- fortunately the table was supplied with red peppers, garlic powder and an herb canister to add some flavor to the otherwise boring pie. The pie was taken home to be disposed. Overall the service was disjointed but friendly - my rsvp was never acknowledged and we had to wait for a clean table upon arriving. Not a bad place just not the best Monday night service.
The food was very good, and the service was great. Don't miss out on the drinks!
We chose Il Porto Ristorante after our reservation at another restaurant fell through. On arrival we were welcomed by name and seated even though we were early. The manager and staff were super helpful and attentive. Live jazz made dinner even more memorable. Prices were reasonable, portions were large and drinks were strong. Definitely will go again.
Food is AMAZING! Wide selection of gourmet pizzas. Staff was very attentive to our needs and provided great service. Sat night live band was a great touch. Hidden gem in the heart of Clinton Hill!
The staff was so sweet and friendly. It was New Year’s Eve and they had party hats for everyone which was just the coolest thing. They helped with wine selections and the food was delicious!
The pasta fagolie soup was excellent. Almost as good as my Sicilian wife’s!
good food, had the linguine with white clam sauce was very good, maybe a little too much oil but good, and had soup appetizer pasta fagioli, that was ok, not great
Had dinner with my wife and daughter who is a student at nearby Pratt Institute. this was our third time at Il Porto and all three have been fabulous. The owner is present and attentive, service great, and the Margarita pizza shared by my wife and daughter was honestly similar to what my wife and I ate recently on a vacation in Italy! I had the Osso Buco at the owner's suggestion and it was generous and tasty over the bed of mashed potatoes. It's a delightful neighborhood gem. Casual with live music.
